Interestingly enough, the English name is borrowed from the French, who were the first to call them the _"Northern Lights"._ Though the words _"Aurora Borealis"_ originate from the Roman deities - Aurora: Goddess of Dawn & Borealis: God of the North Wind - hence "Lights from the North" or "Northern Lights". - Though I quite like _"The Fox Fires"_ in Latin too - _"Vulpes Ignes"_

The fox wanted to be a star just like everyone else, when something much greater was in store for her. If something doesn't happen the way you want it to, do not despair. There could be something so much better than you could have ever imagined possible waiting for you. Don't limit yourself to what everyone else can do. Be true to yourself and you may find a purpose greater than what you were striving for.

@hearto_smarto5 жыл бұрын
I agree a whole lot with your statement. I know that feeling too, believe me, I do. What I got out of the story was that if you try your very hardest but do not succeed the first, second or even third time, it's probably not because you're not good enough, but because you're trying in a way that's not good enough for you. You observe others and how they succeed in their own sort of way, and in turn, try to do it yourself. The problem with that is that it isn't always guaranteed to work. What's best for others isn't necessarily the best for you. Most goals are achieved in a different way and most of the time in an unexpected way. That's only my opinion of it, of course.

"In Finnish, this phenomenon is called revontulet, which means “fox fires”. In other countries it is known as the Northern Lights or the Aurora Borealis, the northern dawn. The Aurora season begins in Finnish Lapland as soon as the nights start becoming colder - this far north, that’s at the end of August. In bygone days, people believed that the auroras were created by foxes running over the tundra emitting sparks. On the other hand, the ancient Finns also called magic spells by that name, so we could also think of the Finnish name for the Northern Lights as meaning “spell fires”." The legend of revontulet, or Fox's fires, is that there is this mythical Firefox which all the hunters desired to hunt which is very, very elusive and if you managed to hunt it you would get the riches and fame. The aurora borealis come from fox running between the fells, tail whipping the snow in to the sky and fur scratching the trees producing sparks setting the sky in fire.

I LOVE this film! This seems to be inspired by actual Northern Lights myths that I originally discovered because of the song "Message From The Sun" by Sonata Arctica, a Finnish band. The Finnish myth says that the lights were caused by the firefox who ran so quickly across the snow that his tail caused sparks to fly into the night sky creating the Aurora. The Finnish word for the Northern Lights “revontulet” translates literally as “fire fox”. This is now one of my favorite mythological stories, and I think the film maker did a great job with it. Edit: I missed that the creator said it IS inspired by the folklore.
@cinder_x32 жыл бұрын

(The subtitles go 'I tried so hard but I can't become a star like everyone else. I just want to help light up the sky.') And I just thought that that was kinda cool.
