I bought the M3i specifically because I used it at the gym. Seeing them hold up so well after constant abuse in group fitness classes I knew this would do well at home.

I recently chose this over the S22i and Peloton for 3 main reasons: 1. build quality -- this thing is seriously engineered and built to last. commercial grade, quality materials, and made in the USA. it feels very sturdy and solid and even out of the saddle as a 6'4" it does not wobble one bit. I was leaning S22i at the outset of my research but the reviews of QC and customer service were scary. That bike also seemed to wobble in video reviews quite a bit. 2 not attached to pay-to-play apps -- with the bluetooth and the converter, you can switch between dozens of cycling apps. I've tested with ifit, peloton, and zwift so far and they all work great. i don't have a $1300 bike with a $700 ipad stuck to it that will likely become outdated in a year or two. I have a $2000 bike that is more future proof imo. 3. no plug in, no electric motors -- this bike just works. no outlet necessary. the magnetic fly wheel shifts smooth as hell and there are 24 continuous resistance thresholds. also, unlike the S22i there are no electronic motors or electronics at you have to worry about failing. There is a modest backlit lcd screen that has the necessary metrics (that also sync to the Keiser app and other third party apps). I've had this bike for a few months and it has been phenomenal. no regrets or buyers remorse at all. you get what you pay for.

Great minds think alike. I had an s22i ordered and ready to ship and was nervous about it. Came across this review and immediately canceled my order. Customer service is amazing at Keiser and the I like how you can use multiple platforms. Going to be all over Zwift with this.

The Keiser M3i is a great gym quality bike. When I was a member at the gym, I rode 2-3 times a week on the M3i and always enjoyed the ride. Using the Keiser was the first time I really started clipping in consistently. I rarely made it to the top resistance. It gives a good quality ride. Looking forward to the comparisons. I think it has higher max resistance than the 1805 but who rides at max resistance all the time. Definitely not me. Great video.

Hi Matt - another great review, thanks so much! My apologies in advance for the essay, but you've given me so much to share from all your hard work reviewing your studio of bikes. :) I tried the Sunny rear fly wheel bike hoping to find a cheaper but comparable option to the Keiser and I don't think it compares at all (other than the fly wheel position). I rode Keisers at my local gym and loved them - I found them smooth and comfortable and I also loved the position of the resistance knob. There's no doubt about it, the Keiser M3i is just an awesome overall bike. For my own budget, and based on your reviews, I ended up buying the Sunny 1805 and I'm super happy with my purchase! I tried the Joroto and found the drive train to be choppy and the magnetic resistance wasn't sensitive enough (too much turning with not enough result - going from light to heavy suddenly after a ton of turns). Plus, the Joroto I got had a broken crank bearing and made a clicking noise straight out of the box. It went back to Amazon. As I mentioned, the Sunny rear fly wheel just didn't hold a candle to the Keiser; sent that one back, too. UPS must hate me! My house was starting to look like your apartment with three bikes to try. The one thing I think the Sunny 1805 has OVER the Keiser is the Sunny 1805's stability when riding in an upright position. The V shape of the Keiser, while mimicking a rode bike experience in a superior way, doesn't facilitate the same level of stability as the 1805 when out of the saddle. The Sunny 1805 is a TANK - I think it could survive a nuclear explosion it's so heavy and solid. Add on a cadence monitor and SPD pedals the Sunny 1805 still comes in $1200+ below the Peloton or Keiser and I think it's got an awesome drive train and smooth but heavy incremental resistance. I also like that the Sunny has no technology to break (personal preference as I only need a few metrics to get an awesome ride, cadence being most important to me) - the Keisers at my gym often had broken monitors, but when they worked they provided great metrics. I got my Sunny 1805 for $599 off your link and they've since jacked up the price; glad I got it while it was lower! Thank you so much for all your reviews and helping me find the best option for my family and my budget! I also bought my cadence monitor off your links. Looking forward to seeing more of your comparison videos! Thanks again, so much! Jenny (wife of Tim of Everyday Tactical Vids Channel)

Thanks for your essay, lol I actually genuinely appreciate it (seriously). Excellent write up, I think you are SPOT on. The 1709 is a look a like and that's about it really, it's fine, but not anything like the keiser in actual feel. And the 1805 is a legit tank, this bike far out punches its price Category and it easily one of the best bikes I've seen especially for its price, which is why I went one a rampage a week ago making so many videos and speaking so highly of it and also my experience with the 1805 really got me wondering how good the 1709 would be and there was only one way to find out. Also joroto, good bike for the price but hardly compares to the 1805. 1805 is 50% more and at least 50% better. Thanks again!

@@TailHappyTV one other quick thought, I did find the Keisers at my gym all made a whirring noise as your speed increases, louder than some other whisper quiet bikes...So does the Sunny 1805. But the noise fades into the background once I put on a Peloton or other class using my iPad.

Great review. I recently bought a pretty beat up Keiser, M3, meaning no electronics. It still rides well. I am loving it. Regarding your pedals, I suggest you try a little tri flo or similar bike lube on the pedal cleat part and double check that all knobs and all bolts are tightened down hard, including the seat bolts. I don't think its your pedal bearings because, as you said, they spin very well. Some people complain about the bottom bracket being worn out on used bikes, so that may also be something to check out. I also agree that this is a phenomenal bike. The U.S. and Australian Navies have them aboard their submarines. A recognition of their sturdiness and how quiet they are. Also, regarding the light flywheel, the engineer who designed the bike and owns the company said that a lighter flywheel at higher RPM such as in this bike provides the same inertia as a heavy flywheel at a lower RPM.

I have been using this bike in La Fitness for the last 7 years and I just love the bike and how it is easy to change resistance and the feel when doing the different spin classes with different instructors. The seat is the weak link of the bike. Although the display is pretty outdated but it is not a deal breaker. I have not been to the gym since last February getting by with my Nordictrack treadmill and thinking of getting a spin bike like peloton, nordictrak s22i, or a Keiser. Looking forward to see your comparison with peloton.

I purchased a M3I with the links from the video. Thanks for making all the reviews. My M3I doesn't make the squeaking noises. However it is NOT silent. I almost always run a noisy ceiling fan and watch TV or listen to music while I ride. The noise from the bike is insignificant compared to those audio sources. I also am riding the M3I using RGT cycling simulator. I like it but the RGT participants riding there blow newbies away. Don't expect to go online and be competitive in the first few months of cycling.

I just pulled the trigger on one of these with the upgraded computer that's bluetooth enabled. It seems like it has a lot going for it. Made in the USA, open platform, and rugged construction since both my wife and I will be using it. I used to put in 15-20,000 steps a day on the jobsite, but now I'm office bound after a recent promotion so I need this. My aging metabolism is starting to show! $2,095 for the bundle but buy once, cry once. Includes a heart rate monitor, mat for under the bike, "stretch pads" (covers over the front feet to use to stretch your calves), and the media tray. According to the Keiser site, the flywheel spins 11 times for every one revolution of the pedal crank.

I think it makes more sense to talk about momentum instead of inertia. Momentum (p) = mass (m) x velocity (v). As we see, if we want more momentum then we can increase the mass or the velocity. Many spin bikes take the mass to an extreme with a really heavy flywheel that has most of the weight in the perimeter to maximize the inertia, but it is also possible to increase the velocity. This is what Keiser does. Why? My best guess is because it simulates a road bike better. It could also be easier on the drivetrain, bearings, belt, etc to have high velocity and high gearing than a heavy flywheel. My other thought is that perhaps when the cadence drops really low at max resistance, where each push of the pedal requires max effort, the typical spin bike will have a slow moving flywheel with a lot of inertia that requires effort to accelerate the pedal, but the Keiser's wheel is spinning faster, so it has the momentum to keep the stroke moving, while having low inertia to get the pedal accelerating from a low speed. I don't know how it would apply, but the kinetic energy or energy of motion = 1/2 x mass (m) x velocity squared (v^2), which means a small change in velocity will result in a lot more energy. We were looking for a used Keiser bike for a while now. We checked out the Echelon EX5, Life Fitness/Flywheel/Cybex/Matrix ICG branded bikes, and even the Schwinn AC Performance, and we decided on the Keiser. We were attracted most to the build quality, aesthetics, strong reviews, made in California/USA, minimalist design, gym build quality, rear flywheel, V frame, etc. We sat on the Echelon and wasn't impressed; it was clearly a bike made for homes and not for commercial use, and the floor model was falling apart. Plus, it didn't have a dedicated screen, and I've heard problems about the bluetooth dropping. The Schwinn was nice with its aluminum frame and build quality that is far ahead of the IC4, but it is large and bulky, and we need to be able to easily move the bike. Plus, it didn't look as good as the Keiser, which looks shape and will hide away in the background of our apartment. The Schwinn AC Performance's handlebars do look better and are probably more comfortable. The hard and glossy rubber is premium, and the flat section is nice for relaxing the forearms on like time trial handlebars on a road bike. I've used them in the gym, and they are definitely nice, but not nice enough to sway us. We almost purchased a used Keiser bike, but in the end, we decided to buy a new one (the wife had $650 in cash back rewards on Amazon, so that reduced the cost some). We ordered it yesterday and expect to get it at the end of the month. We are excited. Thanks for the review. While it wasn't a deciding factor, it reaffirms our purchase decision, and your thorough reviews and actual time spent riding the bike will be appreciated by others. Just a note: the drivetrain is much quieter in other videos I've seen like whisper quiet, so maybe the bike needs a tuneup. It could have been outside or in a garage where it saw higher moisture or something. The pedals are a good quality pedal, but I've heard they and the seat are the first upgrades people make to improve the total experience. This doesn't deter me, as these points are often upgraded areas anyways, as they are the two major points of contact.

Really nice job TailHappyTV on this review and all of your content! You cracked me up w saddle height display (for short folks like me lol) 😂. I think this is your first commercial indoor bike review (?) and since some of us are used to only riding and teaching on those bikes in the gyms pre-Covid, I was expecting to hear from you that this bike feels and rides better than most indoor bikes intended for home use 👍🏼. In my research, for others watching your channel - most commercial bikes are selling (new) these days around $2100 instead of the $2600-$3000 pricing before Covid. I do wish that the Peleton Bike and this Keiser M3i used a strain gauge to measure watts (for the price). Thanks again for reviewing a commercial indoor bike! 🙏🙂

You are just so knowledgeable about all these spin bikes. I hope you don't mind me asking a question: when you use these non iFit bikes with the iFit app, should the app indicate what cadence is needed in the outdoor rides? With the treadmill hikes, the app on my iPad indicates what speed and incline my treadmill should be at. But when I go on my sunny bike (wahoo cadence sensor) and do an outdoor iFit ride, the guide calls out cadences but the app always stays at 50-60. Is it the same for you when you use the iFit app with a non iFit bike?

See if you still get the squeaky noise if you flip the pedals over and use normal trainers. If you don't the front of your cleated shoes are rubbing on the front of the pedal causing the squeak. If you do then use a pedal spanner to tighten the pedals into the crank arm. They are the only two ways those pedals squeak. By the sound of it too you need a new pulley idler fitting as it sounds as though the bearings have gone, about $8. The serial number, the last 6 digits are the date it came off the production line. A quick question...my body build is similar to you..I'm 6'3 with long arms however I don't like riding in an aggressive position..I prefer more up right slightly forward position (say 115 degrees)....with this said, is it comfortable in this position, i.e not stretching to far forward, comfortable hand position etc. You look quite comfortable in 3rd person view but thought I would ask. @@TailHappyTV So the bikes sold at GO don't come with any sort of screen or tablet mount, just an empty connector where they should be attached. However, the internal sensors and bluetooth are functional and users have been able to hack a Raspberry Pi to output cadence, wattage, speed, and resistance (www.reddit.com/r/FlywheelAnywhere/comments/i1znmr/unbricking_a_2000_bike_with_a_10_raspberry_pi/). I am meaning to set this up myself, but it is plenty more involved than the typical Peloton DIY so that is a consideration. Beyond that, the bike is a tank and feels top of the line.

Hi. I bought the M3i new about 5 months ago. I like the bike a lot too. I have the squeaking noise too and it was pretty similar to what you noticed and posted in your video. It seems like with clip in shoes the bike is pretty quiet while I am seated with the resistance level at say 12 and cadence at 110 or less but if I get out of the seat and set the resistance to 14 or higher that is when I hear it. Have you tried replacing the pedals? If so, what did you replace them with and did that take care of the squeaking? Thanks.

Interesting. Do you find a lot of variance in metrics from bike to bike? Are you referring to the power metric or cadence as well? What kind of maintenance is required or should I be doing on this bike? I was wondering if keiser will be coming out with a new model soon, the display does look pretty outdated in 2021, but the good part is you can use you phone for a better looking display with metrics and track and save them as well.
