Keith has really grown into his role on this channel. The watch tapping, the eye rolling, the sassiness... he's the biggest star of the Brady-network since Professor Poliakoff, IMHO. And I could listen to his velvet voice read Victorian chicken-scratch handwriting all day long.

This has instantly become one of my favorite episodes of Objectivity.
@Varksterable6 жыл бұрын
MisterTalkingMachine Yup. As soon as I saw the title it was 'right up there'. Objectivity moves subtly into the docu-drama-thriller genre: Who really *is* the Head Librarian? Who controls the White Gloves of Destiny? How can the cameraman of Objectivity appear in his own videos? What is the mysterious reflection in the left flask *really* telling us about the intent of bacterial nation states? Tune in next week... Great episode and well done with the role reversal idea. Maybe next we'll see Keith setting fire to hydrogen fillmed by Sir Martyn P with Brady doing the lab work. ;)

Brady, despite watching Keith expertly extract books over so many Objectivity videos (and to be sure, I love Keith as much as anyone), seeing you bumble around the archives was the first time I realized the significance of what Objectivity is: The greats stood on the shoulders of giants, but you and Keith are actually walking among them. It's not always glamorous and it's not always Darwin, but it is so many untold stories; any one of which could have been, and without which none could have been. Thank you for sharing that with us.

I happen to like gems and minerals. I was hoping to have a look see for more papers on that. I would also have liked more detail on how microbes in the air are measured. Please do a follow up where you go more in depth. I also like the way these videos put the information at my level of understanding. I used to work in a library, and when I retire from my current job, I'd like to go back to it. Customers were always amazed at how well I could find my way around the collection, and always seemed to know where to go to find the information they were looking for. The truth about that is, I knew how the books were cataloged and when they told me the subject, I knew where on the shelves the books should be. Unless they were looking for a particular author, I could generally take them straight to the section, without having to look it up. As long as the library uses the Dewey Decimal system, I still could, though it's been 20 years since I last worked in a library. Another thing about that is, people looked at me as someone who knew more than I really did. For that matter, they still look at me that way. Just because I know where to find information doesn't mean I know the information. Keith knows where to find the information, which is frequently 80% of the battle. The rest is how you use the information once you find it.

@Varksterable6 жыл бұрын
That's not dull to everyone then, is it? ;) A key idea behind the show QI is that _anything_ is interesting if you look at it closely enough. The Objectivity videos back that up nicely; I had no initial interest in 85% of the topics covered here, but every single one has turned out to be utterly fascinating. The presentation goes a long way, of course. But if you are curious about the world we live in, there is wonder everywhere.

Look at this...people who lived more than 100 years ago...150 years ago ...were publishing research on EVERYTHING...from basalts to planets...and in today's world, what do you usually say to someone who is doing something out of the norm? Although the engraving certainly was rather nice, I don't think that's what 'pulled [this episode] from the fire' at all. Nah; what really did that was the simply magnificent casual-comic banter Brady and Keith seem to generate. I don't have any idea how much is scripted/planned in advance. (Like the single check-out slip, or the books being stored 'the wrong way around' etc.) But it really doesn't matter. This is light-hearted, utterly enjoyable, entertaining humour at it's pinnacle. Great job, guys.

I don't know, I get the feeling that Brady is really quite oblivious to who Keith really is. I mean, he doesn't act with the kind of awe and respect one might have for the head librarian of the RS. Likely a fire suppression system. Tanks will contain a gas along the lines of carbon dioxide or halon that suffocates any fire that starts. Could be something else, but I think that’s most likely.
