Two wonderful drivers from an amazing era. Keke was my first driver hero. If you want to talk about someone making the very most of an opportunity, Keke is the ultimate example. Keke left Fittipaldi at the end of '81 largely because they didn't pay him when they were supposed to! Frank Williams signed him after Alan Jones retired and had no idea what a great decision that was. Keke got the very most out of FW07D and FW08 to take on the turbos and win the championship. Did you know 1982 was the first time he had raced at Monaco? Due to poor cars, he hadn't qualified before '82! Elio was a poet of a driver. Smooth, elegant and quick. Austria '82 was an electrifying finish and a wonderful day for Elio and for Lotus. Colin Chapman's last Grand Prix win of course.

Elio was a talented pianist, concert level really. One of his favorite pieces to play is "A Song for Guy" by Elton John. Which happens to be a piece I play as well. I also on occasion wear a large gold bracelet, thanks to seeing Keke wearing one as a very young man. LOL!

When I think of them I think of the amazing finish to the 1982 Austrian Grand Prix. Keke catching very quickly but Elio holding on to win. What a finish it was.

Elio was loved by his teams. Despite being form a privileged background, he treated his mechanics really well. CLASS.

PLEASE TALK ABOUT RONNY PETERSON when you can. I admired him so much i the days, and around this time of year in 1978 he left us after the scandalous start procedure at Monza, causing the backmarkers to catch up to the front of the field, redulting in a big bad crash. And the not so experienced surgeons that started the leg surgery, bringing Ronny into disseminal vascular coagulation, and thus surgeon-induced desth. Anyway, How was he from your perspective? His dearest never came out of the depression either 😢...

In one of his livestreams- early 2023, he was asked to to reflect on Ronnie. I’d read a piece Peter did in F1 racing and it was a fascinating read. Peter got emotional in that stream when asked about Ronnie.

I was taking photos near the Williams pit in Detroit 1982 when Keke comes in from a quick practice lap. He hopped out of the FW08, pulled a pack of Marlboro reds out of his race suit, fired up a cig, and a Williams mechanic hands him a beer!! I'm like, "I love this guy!!" 😂😂
