Work's fantastic, thanks Cal. Just relined my reels ready for winter. 🎣🎣🎣

Thought He was crazy to use lead core. But two years ago I tried it. Worked out fantastic! 80% of fish are on the modified core. I’ve got two poles now. One for 0-10 ft and one for 11-25 ft. Different top shot lengths. Thanks for the confidence.

Hi Cal, I just bought a couple of your leadcore rods and a couple of new 5500LC reels. I haven't spooled them up yet but in a video you released about a year ago, you started with 80' of 10# mono, then braid, then leadcore. Why have you chosen to not use mono this time? I'm confused if I should use it or not. Thanks

The mono will keep the braid from slipping on the reel and give it a little cushion to bite into when spooling. You can skip the mono if you tape the braid to the spool. ~Wes

Love the lead core now a question I have is what lb. ? I use 7 in winter and early spring and 15-20 in spring and summer to late fall is this what you do?
@catchamerica3 жыл бұрын
Well I usually use 15 or 18 lb leadcore and an 8 lb leader

Love the setup. Got a yellow pole myself! Question. Why do you continue to pedal your kayak when reeling in a fish. In my engine powered fish boat
@1matthew10183 жыл бұрын
I put boat in neutral and reel fish in. Just curious. Keep up the videos. Learn a lot. Thanks

We prefer to keep pressure on the line when fighting the fish. Also, Its very common for us to have a second rod in the water on the yak, and stopping allows it to sink. ~Wes

Great video, can’t wait to try it out! When you say 8-50ft of 20lb flouro depending on what your trying to do, what’s the main difference between 8 and 50 ft? More top shot the deeper down you can get? Or to be further back behind yak or boat? Thanks!

Its all about the setback. With a 3 color setup, 25' of topshot seems to be the sweet spot for us. It allows us to run one color of lead and still maintain enough setback or 3 colors without a crazy long setback.

Got it! Thank you.

How do you measure how much leadcore is out? For example, I hear you say, "I'm out 3 colors" or "I'm out 1/2 a color." Do you measure from top of water down? Also, with 18lbs leadcore, what speed are you using to calculate 5ft per color? 2mph?
@catchamerica3 жыл бұрын
The leadcore changes color every 30 feet… At 2mph you get down about 5 feet per color….

@@catchamerica Thanks Cal! Do you measure color off the reel, rod tip, or from the water surface?
