Great coverage of the storm, the sound of the howling wind was terrifying. We live in St. Petersburg, had a similar experience to yours. Irma had more sustained winds and rain for us. Seeing the damage and hearing the stories in the Fort Myers area is heartbreaking. Can't imagine loosing your home, transportation, and job all at the same time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone. Donations to Red Cross or Samaritan's Purse will help these communities recover...there is a long road ahead for them.

Glad you made it through safe. I've been in Florida for many hurricanes. Thank you for documenting and letting the world know how serious these storms are. Irma and Ian are the 2 that were serious for me even up in the Tampa Bay area. Ian & Irma were originally forecasted to make landfall in this area, but changed thank GOD. Glad you and your home made it safe! I was on a cruise that was extended by 2 days, we had excellent weather, but the last day we rocked so bad they had to close the pool! I have had to camp out at the hospital a few times. The worst was a blizzard (hurricane conditions during a winter snow storm) of '93. My hospital wasn't prepared for housing 3 shifts of nurses and many others. I slept with 3 other people, yes 3!, on a therapy mat. Hard as a rock!!! We were on the 4th floor and right at a corner of the building. The wind whistled and blew for several days. My house was in the country and snowed in tight for 4 days. It took several front loaders to lift and remove the snow to our house as the snow was 8-10 ft deep. Only my husband stayed at the house which was fortunate as a man ran off the road and barely managed to get back up our hill. He stayed for 2-3 days. Amazingly the electric never went out. I walked in 4 ft of snow for 2 blocks to get to my parents house in town as they were stuck taking care of my 10 month old daughter. Now I live in southeastern coastal GA. We were totally prepared to take our 5th wheel and bug out if needed on Monday before the hurricane. We've stayed through a few hurricane/tropical storms and it's a hairy adventure...3 days without electric, no travel trailer then! We fled Irma and went up north to PA. Took us twice as long to get there as usual. Glad you were able to make it through a hurricane but remember everyone of them is different. Never take them for granted. Btw we didn't even get rain during Ian as it was too far out in the Atlantic to effect us this time.

Glad you made it through and your house was without damage. What an experience! But why didn’t the hospital have the sun shades taken down and the exterior garbage cans taken in? The sun shades can be costly and that much canvas flying through the air could possibly cause damage, not to mention the damage the garbage cans in the parking lot could cause.

I always wonder why people thank the lord when nothing happens to them and the stuff happened to other people. It doesn't seem nice to me. I wonder how I would feel if my my house was decimated and someone said "Thank the Lord that did not happen to my house" .... It's like the preacher who told the congregation to thank god they have 2 hands and 2 legs and there was someone in the audience with a missing limb. It's hard for me to thank god something happened to someone else and not me.
@kellyhays23
@kellyhays23 Жыл бұрын
Now how does that make sense? You should always be thankful for your blessings. Just because others may be less fortunate in a certain area or circumstance does not make it wrong to be thankful for what you have. That’s like saying you can never be grateful for anything bc you know someone else has it worse.

@@can_you_guess_my_new_username i guess we have different mindsets. If my house was destroyed and my neighbors wasn’t, I would be happy for them. If I had a missing limb, I would tell others to be grateful for their blessing to have both and not be disgruntled when they are grateful for what they have. Because it’s not about what I have vs what others have. It’s about being grateful in all circumstances. In this particular circumstance, I was blessed to still have a roof over my head, but had my house been washed away, I would be grateful I was alive or for God being there for me. We live in an imperfect, flawed world where bad things happen to everyone, sometimes you, sometimes others. That doesn’t change the fact we should be grateful for what we have -however much or little, and help those around us when they are struggling.

@@kellyhays23 True, the park I live in that is mostly the case except for a lot of roof shingles ripped off. The park next door has older homes and 3 or 4 of them blew completely apart and a couple had just collapsed on themselves. We don't have any RVs in here, just permanently parked modular homes. Different story out on the beaches since the storm surge uprooted so much in its path, lots of trees down on RV's whose owners chose to leave them behind, and many were relocated from where they might have been parked to somewhere else entirely. Of course, that happened to many regular homes as well. I sat by my front door thru the whole storm watching shingles, aluminum and steel panels, insulation materials, and tree branches just flying up into the air. The house across the street has the rubberized roof like they put on RVs and I watched that roll right off his house and end up hanging down into his front yard, followed by seeing the power pole right next to the park entrance snap off when the wind changed direction.

Every hurricane costs a lot of money! You try to prepare Generators are a waste of money cause they never start again for the next hurricane! Don’t even buy one! I paid $900. Cause that was all available! Doesn’t start after draining everything what s waste! Sick of it! Had two with my parents living with me Dad could never get them to start it’s just junk! All of them and the ones at Lowe’s costs $900. Made in China! Used it two weeks! What a waste! Then my fence was destroyed because my ignorant neighbor never anchored his trampoline cost me over $900 . Then I heard this horrible noise one of the trampoline springs came loose as it flew through the air slammed my hurricane covers on my window and broke my window so not a good time for me . Neighbors are not responsible for their neglectful mess you have to fix your own stuff! I brought everything in or anchored it but they did not! Stupid that they tell you to anchor trampolines swings any yard furniture and moving objects that can fly around but they don’t do it! Lazy don’t care!

That is a very nice cot. If you get one, get one similar but that has the posts for a mosquito net over it. That kind of cot will allow you to have two storage bins under it which is very convenient. If you use it outside with the net set up, you can throw a tarp over it too. You should not have gone outside flying debris causes nasty injuries. Hurricanes are scary, aren't they? Glad that you're okay. When you and James settle down to a house be sure that it can handle hurricane winds(which also helps it to withstand blizzards). Thanks for posting this good video. Good Luck, Rick

FYI -Wawa is a convenient store chain, originating in the Philadelphia area. They have 100's of stores now. It is also frequented by the rudest people on earth, who leave their vehicles at the pump after filling up, regardless if there are other people waiting to fill up during busy times. They are also unable to differentiate between the regular trash cans, and the ones designated for recycling. You will find all types of trash in both bins.

Yep… it was not fun to live through. Today I got power back to my house and the electric panel caught fire 😭 I’m a recently retired local firefighter medic .. this is my first hurricane in 20 years I haven’t had to work .. felt really weird not helping everyone

Glad you're home survived. That was a beast of a storm from the pictures I've seen. Sweet cot the hospital provided.. Last time I had to stay over night here at the one I work for I slept in the floor with just the pillow I brought from home so hat's off to your employer.

That setup is like the Ritz Carlton compared to a couple nights on the AT. 😂
