I feel like Tori Amos get's passed over a bit and is so underrated, considering her talent. I mean, she is utterly incredible. Feel like it would be a better world if she was more of a role model to our young girl's in the next generation coming through. Will make sure my niece experiences her majesty at least, haha.

I feel like if was in the 60’s or 70’s she would have been taken more serious, a counterpoint to Carly Simon or Carol King. I feel like she would have been way more popular.

@@MrKarmapolice97 but at the same time, her influences were largely people in those eras, and if she didn’t grow up and be influenced by their music, than she wouldn’t have become the artist she was, so she couldn’t have existed in that time. Like she talks about Jim Morrison and Joni Mitchell and how they influenced her and if she wasn’t able to grow up with their music she may not be who she is.
@kellyslate7536

@@sakinaalia1067 You are completely right. Tori came along exactly when God intended her to. Had she come before many of the artists that actually influenced her then she wouldn't be the same Tori Amos that I know & love to this day & that would be a tragedy. Tori is also a huge influence to those that have come after her. She opened the door to a whole new way of performing, I'd never seen someone with 3 different types of piano's/keyboards(??), & sometimes all 3 within the one song. Tori is a Very Special Talent!

Seriously, the cross over from metal fans to tori amos is legit. She is a true artist, which metal fans connect with, who has collaborated/been praised by artists like Maynard james keenan, Trent Reznor etc. She is the real deal. Her Little Earthquakes album is a perfect album. And this is coming from a Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, Dimmu Borgir, Slipknot fan. This made me happy. Thanks

@EJ D completely missed the point (even though nickleback using one of dimebags unused solo demos is not even the same ballpark) you are reaching, we get it. You don't like her. I've seen Tori in concert six times going back to 1994. The first time, she attacked the piano and was an intense sexual presence on stage. It was mind blowing. Her father lived near my hometown at the time, and he was in the audience with a lot of relatives. Rocker? Oh hell yes. Winter is a gorgeous, very meaningful song, and this was recorded in 1991, before she released Little Earthquakes. Her dad was in the audience at Montreux! Watch her face and you can see she is directing some lyrics to him.

Tori Amos went to my high school after she was expelled from Peabody. One of my little sisters was in Madrigal choir and choir with her. In the early 80's she pressed a couple of demo songs and until the early 1990s my family had a copy of a 45 single titled Baltimore. In 1991 I was reassigned to Fort Meade MD and heard one of her songs on the radio (alternative radio). It had been ten years since I had heard the demo and the second the song came on I recognized her voice and I said, "That's Ellen Amos." I found out later that her stage name was Tori. I know that she was a fan of Led Zeppelin and does a cover of "Thank You"

Tori Amos is amazing. One of her major influences is Kate Bush. She performed "Don't Give Up" with Peter Gabriel (both on the album "So" and in the music video.) While she's not very well known in the US, I remember her first US TV appearance in 1978 on Saturday Night Live, hosted by Monty Python's Eric Idle. With a 4 octave vocal range, she's an amazing song-writer, musician, and producer. A few years ago she performed her first live concerts in 35 years. She played at the Hammersmith-Apollo in Londer for a month long engagement, 22 shows. The 75,000 tickets sold out in 15 minutes. She's only had a few US hits, like "Running Up That Hill" and "Cloudbursting," with Donald Sutherland starring with her in the music video. I remember seeing that SNL episode live when I was 16 years old, and it changed my life. Songs from her first albums that are really incredible (she was only 16 or 17 at the time, "discovered" by David Gilmour) include "The Man with the Child in his Eyes" and "Wuthering Heights." She's got quite a few amazing videos on KZbin you can check out.

Guys, she totally did plug in. Disc 2 of "To Venus and Back" was recorded on her "When Pianos Play Like Guitars" tour in 1998, in support of her "From the Choirgirl Hotel" record, and they were her first live shows (sure she's done plenty since in the last 20 years) to have a full live band (Matt Chamberlain, briefly of Pearl Jam, was the drummer). I saw that tour, and it was incredibly powerful. Review a song from that disc, and you'll no doubt love it.

She blew me away and their is a B-Side song she has called I Never Seen Blue, and it reminds me of my first love and that time in my life, it’s bittersweet. It can be argued that there's a direct line of influence from Kate Bush to Tori Amos. Had Kate not been afforded the right to perform her own music in her own way, I rather doubt Tori would have had so much support. In the same way, Tori paved the way for Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine.) I'm sure there are probably many more ladies who are even involved with music because of Florence.

I am not familiar with you, but KZbin directed me here because Tori Amos is my favorite artist. It was really lovely to watch your faces as her lyrics revealed themselves. Tori Amos always gets a lot of credit for her musical ability but she rarely gets the credit she deserves for her poetry. You can’t deny that she reaches directly into the soul after watching people focus on her lyrics and her performance in real time.

I first heard Tori after Headbangers Ball on MTV. I think the next segment was 'alternative' music. But her videos were often feature immediately afterwards, and she dropped my jaw. I always watched her music videos and am a big fan. I know a lot of metalheads who also love Tori, so it is not such a weird cross-genre request.

I would recommend just listening to the entire “Little Earthquakes” album. Crucify is an amazing song.

Just found this one! I love Tori so much! Some of her songs are very metal. She also has a song with Maynard. They’re friends.

I can blast EYEHATEGOD or High On Fire all day, than put on Tori Amos and cry. She may be the most emotional and passionate female musician ever. I love her music. I’m embedded in hardcore, chaotic heavy metal. But I proudly fly the flag for great music no matter what it is. And female artists like Tori Amos, Lana Del Rey, Mazzy Star, P.J. Harvey Portishead , The Go-Go’s and so many more are metal as fuck because they have integrity. They should be at the forefront of game changers in the musical spectrum.
