He was one of the greats: (RUNAWAY, LITTLE TOWN FLIRT HATS OFF TO LARRY, I'LL FOLLOW THE SUN, (and he introduced FROM ME TO YOU and UNDER MY THUMB before Americans knew about the Beatles or the Stones). He had met them all in England.

Of course Del Shannon was great even though both songs weren't played or sung in their entirety. These songs were his early hits that were recorded in 1961. It was mostly in the 70's that Del Shannon wore a Cowboy Hat & clothing. In the 70's I saw him perform dressed like that on the Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack. Del still looks rather decent dressed in Country Western attire he does look like an All American Cowboy. Of course Del was also known to sing in Country Western as well. Even if he did use his lasso she still managed to "Runaway" that's why she's "My Little Runaway".

En Mexico Los Hnos Carrion grabaron estas dos cancions. Because these were 2 important songs during the Rock and Roll Era. Del Shannon always Rocked y tambien Los Hnos Carrion. Canciones Hermosas.

If he did that it probably wasn't his doing, it was something that Dick Clark did. Dick didn't have Del Shannon sing those two songs on their entirety. Del of course did it because that's what he got paid for. If Del played live than his hit songs wouldn't have sounded like the way they did in 1961. Of course money talks and the man did as he was told.

American Bandstand wouldn’t let the performers sing live. It was a time and control issue. Plus they didn’t have to pay the band to perform if only the singer was on stage.

Whatever the case, Hats Off To Larry was Del Shannon’s 2nd hit song. It was also a huge selling song even though Del Shannon recorded other songs. Runaway and Hats Off To Larry were the 2 songs that cemented his popularity. What makes these songs unique is that they were ahead of their time because Max Crook sat in with his invention and keyboard 🎹, the Musitron. This keyboard 🎹 was a forerunner to the synthesizer and those keyboards 🎹 would later be used in Rock 🎸 music 🎼. According to some of liner notes of Del’s albums Del Shannon electrified Pop music.😊
