Thats my favorite set of all time. Really enjoyed the slower pace of the video showing all the cards instead of just shuffling through them to get to the inserts. Enjoyed the stories as well. Todays younger generation think the junkwax era must have been sooooo boring without all the inserts, autos, serial numbers, etc, but those that lived it know it was a blast! My best 1989 Bowman memory took place just a few years ago. I was at a trade show (not a card show) and saw a guy with some cards and unopened packs so I stopped to look and noticed a single 1989 Bowman pack. Being my favorite set ever I picked up the pack and could see a rat or mouse had chewed through the pack wrapper to get to the gum but I still wanted it if the price was right. I asked him how much and he laughed and said "ten cents". I handed him a quarter and walked away while opening it. Right in the middle of the stack was a pristine Griffey Jr. LOL

Now I am going down the rabbit hole of AM radio broadcast signals. The short story is a change in the atmosphere at night allows the signals to reflect back and travel much farther, they actually have to reduce their signal strength but it's still travels hundreds of miles. Our local news radio station can be heard all the way to the top of the mountains 200 miles away at night.

great video, an explanation for subpar signatures these days comparing to previous years, is way more on card autos, the suspension of cursive being taught in the schools, & more typing vs handwriting exposed to young people.

Back in the late 80s collecting baseball cards as a kid I would always get Topps or Donruss.. I never liked Fleer.. thought it was a cheap knockoff. Upper Deck was like premium.. the hologram logo they used was so cool.. if I remember right they cost more and maybe fewer cards per pack?? maybe. So best bang for the buck was Topps & Donruss.

Not necessarily "fake autographs" considered facsimile autographs. I think the crummy autographs like a line or just initials we see today for many newer players might have something to do with cursive handwriting not being taught

It's because they don't teach cursive writing in school anymore. That's why the new Stars of MLB can't sign the right way. It's the school system's fault, they took a lot more out of school than when I was there. Great video and pulls, nice Ken Griffey. Have a good day and Peace.
@LinkRocks
@LinkRocks 11 ай бұрын
There's no need for cursive anymore, except to sign your name and that's doesn't require you to be legible so you can get away with not knowing cursive. I learned it in school and have rarely used it in the past 15-20 years. It's like riding a bike in that you never forget it, but it's no longer a requirement in everyday life. The world is ever changing and some things get left behind.
@robertsprings3591
@robertsprings3591 11 ай бұрын
@@LinkRocks when they ask you to sign something it's suppose to be in cursive writing not print out writing. Some of that writing you can't read. Just saying Topps and Bowman always had signatures on their cards back in the day.
