This is the kinda take I agree with. The future doesn't look quite so bleak when these things keep popping up on the horizon, but fuel and fire and noise will never be properly replaced. The spectacle is singular - you cannot fake a high-strung turbo 5-cylinder racing to the redline. You just can't.

This! As Tim Allen said, electric cars are essentially over-priced golf carts. You'll never be able to replicate awesome, breathtaking chase sequences when the car is as quiet as a mouse and sounds about as menacing as a pin dropping on a sound dampened carpet.

Some VFDs that control industrial motors will put out a sound naturally while they invert the power back to AC to drive the motors. I know that some EVs use DC motors but I would think that there has to be a way to give the car some personality based off of what the VFD is doing (tones, sounds, etc). Nothing like a fake combustion engine noise but something more futuristic.

I'm currently working for Carvana, and we had a 2017 Audi RS7 come in the lot through a truck hauler, quite recently. It had a full Liberty Walk kit, with a Big Country Labs Chassis mount wing. Aside from the E-tron GT, this was the nicest looking and easily the best sounding Audi I've ever seen.
