Ken Block VS Laguna Seca in his All-Electric 637hp Audi RS e-tron GT

Today I’m aiming to break the WORLD RECORD lap-time for an all-electric production car with a snowboard roof pod around Laguna Seca, haha! All jokes aside, I’m taking my brand new Audi RS e-tron GT (that I daily drive) for some lap-time testing. For science…? Yeah, for science. It’s amazing how capable this car is straight off the production line, so let’s put it to the test at one of the most prestigious race tracks in the world. They used to run the formula cars back in the 80’s. My mom used to run catering for the drivers. They stopped running their because of bad wrecks and at least one death. I lived a couple miles from the track and could hear them running from my house. Super fun track.

Those were probably CART IndyCars you heard. F1 never raced here or even really tested here. That record lap was likely during one of Ferrari's Corse Clienti trackdays. They like to roll out an old F1 car or two and that usually means broken records. IndyCar does still race at Laguna Seca, though.

Even as a driver, having the bass and vibration from an internal combustion engine elevates the heart rate and adds another excitement factor. Driving this would be serene. It's all wind noise and tyre squealing. Constant torque, no engine vibrations. Really weird

Ken is mediocre, just saying. He is one of the most knows drivers in the world, that's for sure, but he isn't great. He is mediocre. Secondly, the sound of an engine in certain situations can be fun, can be annoying and the lack of engine sounds can be calming, comforting, and terrifying. Trust me, a powerful electric car is just scarier in person in a situation like this. A normal car isn't! I'm sure your adrenalin level would be higher being in an electric car.

Having riden shotgun for many laps on this track (1:28-1:31) I was defiantly making the same faces as Niel, the video does no justice to how intense the track is at speed, especially in a production bucket seat.

That is where things are going and they want to lead with him as their driver. He is 54 now and might be on his last "lap". The saddest thing in my book is that Ford now has the Hoonicorn and unless there are secret plans, it is going to sit and rust! Let's hope for the best.

Hi Ken Did you happen to know my cousin Jim Elder? He was an automotive journalist who rode the Baha 1000 as co-pilot in the truck class (factory Ford) back in the day.. He and his wife were the chase vehicle for the Alcan Rally for three years in a row and raced it as well.

Sure a different track than when I raced there. Back in the day there were no corners after you crested the hill after the pits. In my Pro SV (180hp, 1200 #) it was flat until after going under the bridge. I ran 1:12s and was by no means the fastest car.
