When testing your draw weight knock an arrow. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen those scales snap and then boom your 4 limbs become 8.

45lbs is all you need you can ask many pro archers that pulling that amount of weight will absolutely ruin your shoulders no matter who you are.. I’ve killed every whitetail 45 lbs I let them get within 35 yards never shoot a deer with its head down or a eye that you can see means he can see you, if deer’s looking away they will never jump or duck a lot of deer are lost due to that

Two reasons I dropped to 60. 1 got old😂 2 and most important after sitting in a tree stand for hours in zero or colder weather conditions I found it very difficult if not all most impossible to draw my bow back if I had to shoot from a sitting position and that was completely unacceptable, sometimes they get the drop on you and have to shoot from a sitting position.

a 60 lb bow will take down any big game in america-used to shoot 70 lb till i got older went to 60 lb and took 3 large elk with complete pass thrus

I've bow hunted my entire life, when I was younger i shot 70 lbs. As I got older I reduced the weight for one reason. So i will tell you when 60 vs 70 lbs matters, it matters when the hunt isn't going as planned and the weather turned sour and you have been sitting in a tree stand for hours with wind and rain, and just as the sun is setting that monster deer you have been after finally walks into view broadside but you struggle to draw a 70 lb bow cause you are shivering from being so cold. Performance wise, there is no discernible difference.

Cool test. The penetration question is much more complicated and 60 vs 70 will vary a lot with arrow weight, diameter, spine, and FOC. The thing that will never change is that you will always get more penetration and less drop with 70 lbs over 60 and the same arrow properly spined. My thought is to pull as much as you can while getting adequate practice.

Agree. Also a 70 lbs. Bow will shoot a heavier arrow much flatter then a 60 lbs. that will give you much more penetration.

The answer to this is to hit the gym. 70 is better in so many ways. Of course it’s harder to pull back. Holding back, if your bow has 80% let off, you’re holding 12 lbs on the 60 compared to 14 on the 70. So very little difference. You have it in your head that there is a huge difference there. But there isn’t. 60 is good. But if you are going to shoot longer shots, the more you pull the better. I shoot 70 all day with no issues. I’ve done it for a long time. The more you practice with it, the easier it gets.

I think if a you had a gun and the trigger pull was different and you tested then it be pretty accurate test but with bows its all about comfort. if you have no problem pulling a 70lb bow and get the more strength benefit then do it, but if you have it easier with 60 that is your best choice tho.

For the drop test, did you make sure the 20 yard pin was hitting the same spot for both 60 and 70 lbs before shooting the 40 yard pin? Drop may not be as drastic of a difference as it showed if you didn’t. Thanks for the content. God Bless.

Deer did not duck your arrow because of lb-age......he ducked it because your aim point...you held too high!! Always..always....and yes...Always. Aim at the heart.....if your deer ducks then you get at least a Double Lung....if he Doesn't then you get a Heart shot!!! Deer are fast as Hell off the Ear.....distance don't matter

This is also going to depend on how efficient the bow is. A bow with 60 pound limbs set to 60, will be more efficient than a 70 pound bow turned down to 60. 20 yds and in is about the only time you can beat a whitetail ducking.
