I wish we knew this just a couple of years sgo. My mom passed away from complications of diabetes and her doctor was doing all the wrong things for her. More and more insulin. I have no doubt that she would still be here today if her doctor or myself had known this. Miss you mom.

4 vegans and one medical doctor downvoted this video. A Year ago, they wanted me on 10 units of insulin and I refused. I had already seen videos by Dr. Berry, Dr. Berg and Dr. Jason Fung and I knew that adding more insulin to the situation would not help. It might treat the symptom, but it would not treat the underlying metabolic issues I had given myself. I Went keto immediately. Lost 60 lbs and A1C is trending down fast. The weight loss was almost entirely diet. I didn't start exercising till recently. Dietary fat is fuel for the body. Nothing more, nothing less. In a low carb environment, the body must use it as fuel. It doesn't have time to hang around in arteries.

Thanks Dr Berry for all your teachings as I have learned a lot . My husband is type 2 diabetic but is very slim and weighs 65kg. All the videos and advice I have seen is for people to go on keto diet and they all report weight loss and a reversal of type 2 diabetes. So what diet can he eat to reverse his condition without loosing further weight 🤔. He is having complications now with his eyes and he has commenced keto but I need advice as I don't know if the high fat diet will increase his cholesterol. Thanks

I reversed my diabetes within four months of eating keto. I've lost 75 pounds and feel great. I can't believe my physician had me eating 40 grams of carbs per meal plus two snacks a day. He even said my fruit smoothies, which I drank daily we're okay. I can never go back to that unhealthy life.

Not a comment but a question; I've been doing Keto for six weeks, I've lost about 20lbs, off all T2D meds (Insulin x2 and Januvia and Trulicity) but my blood sugar is like a wave throughout the day. Peaks around 200 about 9am and is back in range in the low 100's by late evening. I fast 16/8 and my net carbs are usually under 22 but never above 25. I don't want to go back on any meds. I use Carb Manager, log EVERYTHING that goes in my mouth, usually don't go over on protein. Suggestions?

Dr. Berry I have been watching you and some others, doing my due diligence in research before starting this lifestyle change. Quickly I am a T2D after a medical emergency had my on IV steroids for 3 days. My borderline T2D blood glucose shot upto 473 the first day. While in ICU they were giving me insulin, telling me that this was a common reaction to IV Steroids. Fast foward 11 years and I have been on metformin this whole time. Sometimes 1000mg BID then sometimes down to 500mg BID. I also have Chronic Complicated Migraines and Hemiplagic Migraines to the point of disability. (2-5 attacks a week). Would the drastic Therapeutic Ketogenic Diet (90/8/2) be better for me than the typical (70/20/5)? Could you maybe do a video explaining the two types of diets and their merits, if any? Just tired of being sick and tired.

My doc has not giving me a C pip tie test. I have been a diabetic for 5 years now and on insulin for 3 years. I had to take 86 units of insulin in the morning and then 71 at night. As of February 1 when I turned 41 I started on my keto journey. I'm down to 80 units in the morning and 71 at night. Can I come off insulin all together when my level continues to keep level over time? Or I'm I going to stay on insulin for the rest of my life?

After having a heart attack last Nov. my a1c was 9.6, The hospital put me on fast and slow acting insulin also metformin. Left the doctors office yesterday with an a1c of 5.3. Doctor took me off of the fast acting insulin and is running test to find out which type of diabetes I have. Good thing I didn't listen to my dietician and did my on own research. Been following the Keto diet (not 100% but working on it) thanks in part to your videos. I consider you a life saver.

One can be dm1 & 2 at the same time. Type 2 is the complications of carb overload, type 1 is the insulin deficiency. Someone with both can still cure the 2, but they'll still need to inject insulin for the dm1

I had a heart attack at 32 and I am a type 2 diabetic, a keto diet was prohibited for me because it's a hiperprotein diet, which it elevates the risk of another heart attack and raises the triglycerides levels which damage the vessel's wall, I'm also a med student, I would ask your CARDIOLOGIST about the keto diet, most nutritionist don't know anything about diabetes and heart disease, their main focus it's the weight loss results more than your overall health....good luck
@ellenorbjornsdottir1166
@ellenorbjornsdottir1166 5 жыл бұрын
@@lucia897123 Lucia Azzarello, that's not how it works. The keto diet is not "hyperprotein" (unless you're a "ketard") but you are meant to have a gram or more of protein per kilogram of ideal body weight. Eating a low carbohydrate, adequate protein and fat diet makes easier the normalisation of blood sugar in the type 2 diabetic, and also enables you not to use ultrarapid insulin if your meals are planned in the type 1 diabetic. Your cardiologist wants you to have another heart attack because she is not recommending that you do not normalise your blood sugar. High blood sugar is a more reliable predictor of heart disease than trigs. Also, keep the beadiest eye on your HDL:Trigs ratio.

Dr. Berry, I am a believer in the Keto diet now. To give you an idea of how much this diet can change your life, I was diagnosed by my doctor on Feb13 with Type 2 diabetes. He made this diagnosis based on my blood panel from 8 Feb 2019. My A1C is 12, my Glucose is 306, my HDL is 22, my Cholesterol is 354, and my VLDL couldn't even be calculated because my Triglycerides were through the roof..we are talking outer atmosphere level. My doctor gave me the whole regimen, Glipizide, Januvia, and Metaformin. Since I have been taking my blood glucose, my fasting glucose levels each day since the 15th has gone from 252, 252, 179, 212, 163, 131, and 147. I am either doing something incredibly wrong to affect those levels, or my meter is broken, or my diet has changed my life. I follow Dr. Bergs healthy Keto as best I can, and the one that opened my eyes the most, was Dr. Jason Fung, the Nephrologist from Toronto who is seeing very awesome results with Keto and intermittent fasting. I loved his book "The Diabetes Code" which clearly lays out how you gain IR and Diabetes. If Diabetes Type 2 is chronic and incurable, then why does my 83 year old father no longer have it, when he lost 70 pounds because of his other ailments, which forced him to lose weight while bed ridden. Just a long comment for some folks that might not believe the quick results that can happen...at least from a glucose standpoint. I haven't even seen the Endocrinologist or the Nutritionist yet...I don't like sickness and I am learning and fighting this as much as I can. Dominoes don't deliver anymore to my house.

22-November-2018 - A1C was 7.5% and weight was 225 lbs. I started a vegetarian keto diet along with intermittent fasting a few days later. I had my latest blood tests yesterday (20-Feb-2019) and the doctor called me today with the results - A1C of 5.2%, weight was 185.4 lbs! I'm now aiming for an A1C of less than 5% by my next test in May. My longterm goal is to get to a weight of about 130 lbs with an A1C of 4.5% or lesser. Dr Berry's videos have been a huge help in my quest to defeat Type 2 Diabetes. Thank you Dr Berry!

GREAT VIDEO DR BERRY!❤ I shared this video with my T2D sister who is not doing anything for her health😱 BUT I keep trying to persuade her...and yes! I got pissed at myself that I didnt take this disease seriously until I kept denying it was a problem, my weight kept going up....and my last reading A1c was 7.1 when it never gets better eating donuts, drinking pepsi and eating fast food and lots of bread! So...Im on a hi fat/ low carb diet, following some keto ideas, substituting American diet to your ideas...and I improved to 6.3 and all my other numbers got better too incl HDL up and Trigly down from over 340 to 208...in less than 4 mo...im on part 2 of my journey continuing watching you and trying new recipes of less carbs..and remembering that we must take charge of our health..because nobody else will and Im not trying to get early health problems or lose a foot like my grandma did w diabetes..Im trying to feel better and try to get my numbers even better by my next visit in April!💖 THANKYOU SO MUCH DR BERRY...YOU ARE WHAT U SAY AND SAY WHAT U MEAN!👌Keep going😍

Thank you a lot Ken D Berry. I have been prediabetic and type2 diabetic for 5-10 years. But I ignored it because I always had something worse (ulcerative colitis which resulted in 3 operations - the loss of my colon, and a J-pouch, which gave Pouchitis later). But in July my Doctor (here in Sweden) started me on Insulin, and then the diabetes was the worst, and then I started researching. I discovered that there was something called a Ketogenic Diet, and that there was something called a Constant Glucose Monitor. *Why did noone tell me about this before??* I immediately ordered a Freestyle Libre, installed it on myself when it came some days later, and started on the Keto Diet right after. I did not dare to start before because I was afraid of becoming hypoglycemic (from the insulin). I don't thing the power of this CMG can be underestimated in the hands of someone with a rational mind. On the first morning i discovered that the usual breakfast I ate and had been eating for years was total crap which spiked my blodsugars to 19 mmol/L. Had to change and did. Lunch at the cantina at work later in the day, where I was trying to avoid carbohydrates - total crap - they put carbs in everything in order to save money. Freestyle Libre revealed it. Had to figure out a change there too. In the evening - cooked my own biiig rib-eye steak in olive oil and supplemented with plain salad. No effect on the CGM - excellent. Took a reduced dose of insulin - Woke up later at night and the reestyle Libre said I had a bloodglucose of 2,9 mmol/L - ooops - Ok it turns out that is was estimating a bit too low - a stick inthe finger said 4,5 mmol/L. But still rose up and ate some sugar. i can see from CGM that later at night when I was asleep the blood sugar had even been lower later. I then figured out that I better loose the insulin alltogether - have never taken any since . I have made many mistakes on the keto diet - carbs can be hidden in the most unexpected places - but I can now see every mistake that I make with he CGM, and I never make the same mistake twice! And now I have watched almost every low carb/keto youtube video there is with Ken Berry, Dr Berg, Jason Fung, Dietdoctors's videos from Andreas Eeenfeldt, Dr Westman, Virta Health's videos, Ted Nyman etc. etc. It has been 6 weeks now of keto, and I also introduced intermittent fasting and try to do one meal a day. Results: Weight Loss from 96kg to 84kg and My CGM now predicts a hba1c of 42 mmol/mol - before i started the last measurement said 68 mmol/mol. And I have to had more holes made in my belts!. And I had to stop my metformin too (gives trouble with the j-pouch and the salt balance). So this happened with no diabetes medicines at all. And I am not stopping! I am continuing onwards! - or technically - that is downwards for the weight and blodsugars ;) By the way - I have not seen any flare ups of pouchitis (which is autoimmune) since i started - I think it is gone too!

Here in North Carolina the requirements for a CGM are that to be quialfied for it you have to test your blood sugar multiple times a day and with some insurance Medicare have a treatment plan that changes frequently and even possibly have had a pump, The only meds I take now are two types of insulin and I dropped my A1C from 11.3 to 10.1 in less than two months not doing keto.

Guess I both agree and disagree on this one. In my case I was diagnosed in 2005 with Metabolic Syndrome. Used the standard ADA treatment regimen & found that it worked...somewhat...for a few years. Then, the Great Recession hit, had to deal with my mom's death, lost my job & couldn't afford the doctor's visits to get prescription refills. Courtesy of paying attention in Anatomy & Physiology class (studying to be a nurse at the time) I figured out that my diabetes & morbid obesity were being driven by the same process. In early July 2014 I did a controlled experiment & found that a carbohydrate restricted diet did wonders for my blood sugars. Went live on July 14th, 2014 with a carb-restricted diet, and had my blood sugars well controlled without meds for about a week and a half. Then, my blood sugars went wacko - I'd eat the same meals on 2 consecutive days and get completely different results. Near normal BG one day, sky high BG the next. Tweaked my diet a bit which helped, but still it took about another 3 months before my BG went back into the high normal range for good. My point? The dietary intervention does in fact work, but it may take a bit to get it to do what it needs to do. Give it some time, and work with a healthcare professional that will work with you on this. It can be stopped, and even reversed, but you may not get instant results. As of my last labs, fasting BG was 89, A1c was 5.2, weight was 182 (down from 298) & I've been weight stable for coming up on 4 years. No diabetes meds, & 1 antihypertension med.

I know this is a SUPER long comment but I really do encourage you to read it if you have Type 2 Diabetes and want to know a little more about the mechanisms of the disease. It will help you better understand the root problem and how to address it. Dr. Berry knows exactly what he's talking about and even confirms what my UC Davis professor has been saying. I'm taking a class called Neurobiology of Addictive Drugs right now. Unexpectedly, we talked about Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), and I'll explain why later. My professor basically said that we've been defining the problem of T2D all wrong and that new research is leading to a new way to define the problem that the medical world has not kept up with. We've been classifying T2D as a "chronic, progressive disease," meaning that this disease is continuous and gets worse over time, so you're essentially fucked. However, it's our TREATMENT of T2D that makes this disease chronic and progressive, because we have been treating it incorrectly. So far, we have been describing the disease as having elevated blood glucose levels, which is toxic for our cells and leads to tissue damage. That's why you end up going to the doctor. We can't "detect," our own blood sugar levels. However, we notice the blurry vision, fatigue, weight gain (or rapid weight loss,) numbness and tingling in the extremities, etc. and that damage is what sends us to the doctor. Not only is our glucose too high, we've also been saying that our body isn't responding to insulin. However, this is incorrect. (Part 1)

A little bit about insulin: Insulin is secreted by specialized cells, called beta cells, of the pancreas. The pancreas is an organ in your abdomen behind your stomach. Insulin is a peptide hormone. Hormones are messengers secreted by cells that circulate through the bloodstream and tell other cells to do certain functions. In insulin's case, it is secreted because the body detects that you've just eaten a meal (primarily containing sugar,) and that it has entered the bloodstream. The sugar is fuel for cells. Insulin tells the cells in the body to pick up the sugar and use it to make energy. Insulin is also a storage hormone and any excess sugar that hasn't been used for energy is also stored as glycogen (kind of like how plants store starch for energy,) and glycogen is used for a fast source of energy which is quickly broken down by the liver to release glucose back into the bloodstream when we need it immediately. The rest of the sugar, if there is any left over, gets stored as fat (adipose tissue.) Now, we have been saying that sugar is high and insulin isn't working, and as a result, not enough sugar is getting into your cells. Sugar enters cells when insulin binds to a special receptor on a cell's surface, like putting a key into a lock. Then, GLUT4 proteins from inside the cell come to the surface and allow the sugar inside. Researchers and clinicians thought that perhaps something was wrong with the "key" (insulin), or the "lock" (receptors or channels,) and that the cells were essentially starving and not getting any sugar, and that it simply left all the sugar to float in our bloodstream. However, my professor said that this is probably not the case. T2 Diabetics still have plenty of insulin release. In fact, the release of insulin is super high compared to normal. Insulin works just fine and so does the receptor, so what is going on? Well, the cells are actually FULL. Instead of the case of T1D, where the body is actually not producing enough insulin so sugar isn't getting into cells, with T2D we actually have hyperinsulinemia (too much insulin,) and the cells have sugar packed into them! They can't get any more across the cell membrane. (Part 2)
@emberlite
@emberlite 4 жыл бұрын
So, the problem is not that blood sugar levels specifically are high, it's that TOTAL sugar, in the blood AND the cells is too high. Right now, there are three common medications given to T2 Diabetics. The first is metformin. It basically stops the liver from breaking down that glycogen mentioned earlier, and prevents the release of more glucose into the bloodstream, which is a little bit helpful. Then, there are a class of drugs called sulfonylureas. These promote MORE insulin release from the beta cells. This is bad because we just stated that we already have enough insulin, and MORE insulin is only going to try and stuff more sugar into those already sugar-saturated cells. Finally, we give insulin. Pure insulin, injected straight into the bloodstream. Again, NOT gonna help. Maybe at this point you are confused because your doctor has told you that you NEED insulin because your pancreas isn't making enough. Here's the answer to that question: With all this insulin (hyperinsulinemia,) we keep storing sugar as fat. That fat content in your body grows so high that it starts to surround your organs. You get a fatty liver. Your pancreas becomes occluded by fat, so that it works less efficiently. Not only that, but sugar is damaging your organ tissues. No wonder your pancreas, over time, with long-term T2D starts to lose its function. STILL, injecting insulin is continuing this viscious cycle! And, we are now finding that this "damage," to your pancreas could be, in part, reversible. So now that we have a new definition for the problem, which is glucose levels that are too high in the bloodstream AND the cells, so much so that it also leads to weight gain and obesity (the #1 risk factor for T2D,) how do we get rid of all this sugar? The answer is diet. Lower the amount of sugar intake. Lowering the amount of sugar consumed will lower your blood sugar, give your cells time to use up all the sugar they have in them, and drop your insulin levels. Fasting is a great way to do this. When your insulin levels drop, your body can actually start burning fat! So sustained sugar intake and hyperinsulinemia make it so that the fat you store isn't burned. It isn't until you give your pancreas a break from releasing insulin that fat actually begins to get broken down and weight loss begins! (Part 3)

Have you ever heard that 6 small meals a day is better than 3 medium-sized meals, because it supposedly keeps your blood sugar more stable, which is less taxing on your body? That whole theory is one huge MYTH. Our body is supposed to fluctuate from relatively high to relatively low blood sugar levels. I'm not saying super high, like when you eat an entire bday cake or something. I just mean that the body needs time to have lower insulin levels, and perpetually eating throughout the day is not giving your body the chance to burn that fat. Another myth that I'll just bring up is that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Wrong. That myth has been perpetuated by breakfast cereal companies for years. Our current dietary recommendations say that 40-50% of our caloric intake should come from carbohydrates (sugar.) The average American consumes more than 3,600 calories per day. Half of that is 1,800 calories. Carbs are 4 calories per gram, so that's (1800/4) 450g a day!! First off, that's too many calories to begin with. Secondly, that level of sugar consumption is toxic to the body. And lastly, these recommendations are WRONG. Do we even need sugar to begin with? What if we ate literally zero sugar? In the absence of sugar, the liver and kidneys undergo a process called gluconeogenesis (roughly translated to "new sugar creation.") Your body will use fat and protein precursors to make the glucose needed, especially for the brain. This is how the ketogenic diet works (although many people using the keto diet still consume carbohydrates through vegetables.) Some of you might be concernened because you've heard about ketoacidosis. Let me explain this process. Your body shifts from burning sugar to burning fat when insulin levels drop as mentioned earlier. This releases acids, called ketones, into the bloodstream to alternatively be used as fuel. If there isn't enough insulin around, the ketones build up in the blood. The blood needs to be at a specific pH (level of a acidity) and even seemingly small fluctuations from this number can lead to death. However, this should only really be a problem for T1 Diabetics, who need to inject insulin. If they miss doses, this could be life-threatening. But for people with T2D, which we've already explained that hyperinsulinemia is a problem, insulin levels will rise enough and respond to the increase in ketones and the body will deal with them accordingly. I personally don't think someone should eat zero sugar, though. Firstly, because it can be very difficult to do. Secondly, because eating vegetables and SMALL amounts of fruit have many beneficial nutrients and fiber. (Part 4)

"How much?" is the next question. There is still an ongoing debate about this very question and more research is needed. I would watch the other videos by Dr. Berry (I'm going to watch them too!) for this question because I personally don't know the numbers yet. However, I will include a personal anecdote here. When I decided to eat less carbs, I minimized mine down to 50-100g a day. I noticed that for about 3-4 days, I felt very irritable and depressed and craved sugar. It didn't hit me until later that these were classic "withdrawal," symptoms. After this slump, I felt more energetic and my mood greatly improved. I stopped craving simple sugars and started wanting more vegetables and chicken, beef, healthy fats, etc. I believe my body knew what it needed after this sugar purge. Also, all carbohydrates are not the same. I encourage you to look up what carbohydrates really are and their general structure. Look up slow-digesting vs. fast-digesting carbs (High and low glycemic index) if you want to learn what sources of sugar are appropriate. You really can't go wrong with veggies (not potatoes and carrots which are super starchy roots, which should be eaten in moderation.) I'm talking about your leafy greens, especially broccoli. Broccoli has only 6 g of carbs per cup. I don't really see anyone eating copious amounts of broccoli to the point of exceeding daily sugar intake. (Lol) I just want to touch on one last point. In the introduction of this comment, I talked about learning about T2D from a drugs class. So, how do the two even relate? When we define drug addiction, we call it a "chronic, progressive RELAPSING disease." That definition is nearly identical to the T2D one, minus the word "relapsing." There is a stigma surrounding drug users that they are suffering from a disease that is all their fault and that it's a behavioral issue as opposed to a medical one, and they just need to "suck it up," and stop. On the other hand, T2D is regarded to as a medical issue and not a behavioral/psychological one. The truth is that BOTH diseases are behaviorally and medically based and need treatment from both sides. I mentioned my withdrawal symptoms from eating less sugar. Sugar does have high addictive potential, just like cocaine or meth. Those struggling with T2D often try to change their diet and then "relapse" by giving in to sugar cravings again. Doesn't that sound a lot like the drug addiction definition? Yes, you can be addicted to sugar. Yes, there DOES need to be persistent behavioral support for those trying to treat and reverse their T2D. There needs to be support from both sides, and I hope that our medical model soon changes to accommodate this new information. The clinical world tends to lag behind the research, but I'm hoping that this country can better educate its doctors to stay on top of the research and prescribe the best, multi-faceted care for their patients. For the maybe two people that end up reading this (lol), I hope it helps. Please pass this info on to help others. (Part 5)

Also, how about cutting out anything that tastes sweet or turns into sugar when it gets into your blood. In addition, beware of the low-fat labelled food- the fat has very likely been replaced with carbage. But the most important of them all- well, at least for me- was the realisation of the fact that the real culprit is the carbs. Once you arrive at this point, I can assure you that the process of giving up all the nice foods that one needs to undergo becomes far more easier but you need to believe in it first. That way, when you give up things, you do it in style. You don't at any stage feel sorry for yourself. You could thank rice/bread/and the rest, for the pleasure of the past few decades, but you make it clear to the above-mentioned that this road that you have shared so far will very soon come to a T-Junction at which point you can only go left or right. Offer the carbs the option of going first, but at the same time make it clear to them that whatever option they go for, yours will differ by 180 degrees.

You can reverse the diabetic syndrome, but you'll always have the carbohydrate intolerance. Toss the sugar before you toss the meds (except sulfonylureas; toss those with the sugar). A type 1 diabetic can reverse the diabetic syndrome by properly managing insulin and eating a highly planned low carbohydrate diet with reproducible insulin requirements. They'll still need to inject insulin at reproducible times of the day to keep diabetes at bay, but it'll be gone, by the strict definition in Greek of the words 'diabetes mellitus' (honeyed siphoning, i.e. glycosuria, caused by high blood sugar).

I found myself in the hospital with metabolic syndrome, which was confusing to me because I was eating rather healthy by American diabetes association standards. Likewise, I had also tried plant based diets, which didn’t help me at all. So, I’m in the hospital receiving a stent at 37 years of age, A1C at 10.5 and was taught how to use an insulin pen at discharge time... I was advised to start a non-ketogenic diet and I felt hopeless, because after two months I had no energy, and I couldn’t lower my fasting blood sugar below 130-190 range. Long story long, I did some research and found Dr. Jason Fung, and that led me to Diet Doctor and their low carb high fat (ketogenic diet) recipes. Ketogenic diets work so well for diabetics. In less than a week of Keto my fasting blood sugars dropped to normal range, I stopped using insulin after three days of Keto. My A1c after one month of Keto went from 10.5 to pre-diabetic range, and my current fasting glucose numbers range from 80-95. Furthermore, my weight is down 40lbs, my energy is up, my hands and feet feel much better, and most importantly, I have hope again. Keto has given me control over my health. This video is great, thank you for all of your videos, they have helped me so very much. I highly recommend Dr. Berry’s getting started on Keto KZbin video, and recipes from Diet Doctor. New subscriber to your channel Doc, and glad to have found it. Just wanted to toss in that in 2011 my a1c was 14.1 and I was 303lbs (6' 4" but definitely not in good shape) and was immediately put on the GI nightmare Metformin and sent to a diabetic dietitian. She gave me the have to eat 80-100grams of carbs per meal yada yada. At that time I did go on the ADA and hit the forums. I learned A LOT from the other folks on there.....and was 'carb scared', which was a good thing after I learned diabetes can maim you to death. I only ate 5-10 carbs a day for a year... got down to 230 and a1c to 5.6. Not sure what happened to the ADA since I was on their forums..but sounds like it's a definite no-go for pre diabetics or diagnosed diabetics. I'm 50 now and getting ready to start the keto plan, as I got a little complacent with my diet and activity level.....and a1c up to 6.5 and potassium at 5.5. Hi Dr. Berry. I am confused about something. I currently have Diabetes Type 2. Not overweight. I take glyburide and metformin. Supposedly, my problem is that my insulin doesn't work well to absorb sugar. Four days into a keto diet and my considerable joint pain stopped. I assume this is because of less insulin in my system. I had hoped I could reduce my meds. I test my blood sugar daily. I've been on the diet still for over 80 days (with a few "cheat" days in between). I've not been able to reduce my meds. In fact, I've needed to increase them just a bit. I've only just now realized a potential contradiction: Why would I want to take glyburide to increase insulin in my system if my insulin doesn't work [well]? Like, could I keep up the metformin (or berberine) to control blood sugar but ditch the glyburide because (a) Isn't my goal to reduce insulin in my system; and (b) My insulin isn't even helping (I don't think) to reduce sugar? Ken, I'm working with a type 2 diabetic (has been for 16 years), is on Metformin, and was on Sitagliptin and dapagliflozin. We have managed to stop the latter two, but is still on Metformin as her bloods are still high even on zero carb. I guess gluconeogenesis has gone rampant from the lack of insulin from beta cell burnout... What's the next stage from fasting/OMAD and zero carb? We're struggling to get a c peptide test due to covid. I'm out of ideas?

Dr Berry, have you written or can you recommend any book with a diet plan for type 2 Diabetic??. I'd appreciate any help. When I arrived here in Albuquerque NM two years ago my A1C was 12 and ive brought them down to 7 but am aiming for 5. The VA has me on 70/30 Insulin 47 units twice a day. For two years now and I hate the insulin but am afraid to stop for fear of something bad happening. I want to start a Keto diet but it is overwhelmingly confusing. I'm 60 yrs old, dont drink or smoke but am overweight at 250 lbs and 6ft tall. I am a former Marine and was once in great shape as a young man but these days consume way too much carbs. I truly would appreciate any help you can give me.

All good advice! And the CGM (continuous glucose monitor) has been supremely helpful with me. I watched another channel where a doctor recommended fruit and whole grains. And I know from the CGM that is BAD advice. I use a Freestyle Libre 2 and really like it. I have it paired with my iPhone and is super helpful.

Hi doctor, i live in uk with a long term type 2 stubborn Diabetic husband, who is now on long term insulin (humulin). If I may ask you to make a video about being on keto life style and taking off slowly or immediately pils etc? I don’t know if it’s possible, but I’m completely on my own - I’m scared but I am doing it to my hubby. Right, he agreed to this style of life just because he could not manage his sugar levels any more. They were over the roof, and also hypo was happening quite often. Had bypass done on his heart two years ago, is wearing compression stockings etc. Now. This is a third week, and a handful of pills in the bin, oh trash. Now this insulin. He lowered the intake more than a half units. Is measuring glucose twice a day, morning and before bed. Ditched whole sugar including sweetener Ow said to me that his “sugar” is a bit too high (10,5) and is thinking to increase insulin by one or two units. No, please don’t I said. Just wait. I’d like to say that we start a day with bulletproof coffee, then breakfast at 10, dinner at 2pm - usually steak with Brussels. Then about 4.30pm he will have a mug of bone broth. That’s it. Additionally he will have: toda drops, d3, k2mk7, vit a, cbd oil 2,5%. That’s it. Thank you for your help aaaa, he is 71 years old aaaa - zero alcohol and no smoking.

Have you had anyone whose blood sugar goes UP from exercising? Even strict low carb, I was walking 4-5 miles a day and my blood sugar would sky rocket for at least an hour afterwards. It used to really tick me off. Now I'm way off track trying to get back to doing what i need to.

My husband’s doctor said his blood work and A1C was all good. His A1C was 6.6. He also had high number on his RBC, HGB, and HCT were high. His MONO was also high. I asked what his cholesterol levels were, she said they didn’t do one since he wasn’t on meds. C02 and Glucose was also high. I’m not happy with his doctor and have not been for awhile. But the decision is my husband’s. He has been doing better if he would just get away from bread, chips and pop will help. I fix more meats and veggies low in carbs, but he is a potato eater. So I have to do the best I can. He has come off 6 of his meds so that’s a great thing.

Appreciate your videos Ken you're doing people a favour. I'm curious as to why diabetes is not diagnosed in Europe until the a1c is 7 as opposed to 6.5 in the US seems arbitrary though obviously not totally

What I truly love about most people that promote a ketogenic lifestyle is that they do not ask for money. They are actually concerned about the health of people, strangers, as if they were family and friends. If nothing else convinces you that Keto is a safe way to go, then let this be a starting point to at least commence a journey of learning the truth behind healthy living and the fallacies of the standard American diet. Education on this matter is completely free so there is only one obstacle stopping anybody from learning it. Yourself. Cheers and good health,

My son is T2 and has began doing Keto. Hes done really well to where his sugar is starting to get lower than normal. His doctor checked his blood work and is really impressed. They lowered his dosage until his a1c come further down. Hes come down from 10 to a 6.5. Anyway, when his sugar gets below 70, what's the best keto options for him to help bring it back up without messing up his progress. I know it was a bad choice but he ate a few grapes. I wasnt sure what to give him. Does it have to be sugar or can it be a keto friendly carb to help raise it?
