Having plenty of magnesium in all your cells is a requirement for optimum health. The magnesium content of food has been declining over the past few decades, thanks to big-farming and processing of our food. You have to make it a point to eat lots of magnesium-rich food. In the process, you also want to avoid needless carbohydrates.
The list of medical conditions created, or or worsened, by low magnesium intake is quite long. You can improve or prevent these conditions by making sure you get lots of magnesium in your diet every day.
Some people need a magnesium supplement to replenish their magnesium-hungry cells, but most people can do just fine by eating lots of the foods on this list.

How much magnesium is safe to take?
@KenDBerryMD
@KenDBerryMD 5 жыл бұрын
Most people do fine with a dose of 200-400mg at bedtime. Some people need more. If you have normal kidney function you can take up to 1000mg daily until you replenish your depleted cells of magnesium.

Great video, really important information. I was a welder for years, and I wore no safety equipment, I also suffered debilitating cramps for years, and doctors didn't know why. I had cramps heart racing, high blood pressure, spasms, it was all terrible! I went into a Walmart one day in northern Montana, a pleasant, very fit male pharmacist struck up a conversation with me, he asked about my symptoms and immediately grabbed a few things for me, he said he especially knew because of my welding years. He said what you said, magnesium, about 500 mg per day, plus natural potassium. My cramps and heart condition nearly disappeared in just a few days! Anyway, thanks for putting these videos together, I'm sure they will help numerous people.

I wanted to comment on the most recent video in the hopes most folks will see it. I am currently in the hospital for an unrelated infection from oral surgery. I started low carb 7 weeks ago for the second time in my life and found your channel. I am down 15lbs already and feel awesome. The reason for my comments is this. Hospitals have NO CLUE about food, diet and low carb. Everything they try to feed me is loaded with crap. A muffin, orange juice, corn flakes im sure are all GMO, and the like. I am lucky enough to know someone in food service who gets me some scrambled eggs. I am 53, still need to loose 15 more but my blood sugar went from 130 tested twice in a month, to 92, and 94 just 6 weeks later!! I cant thank you enough for the real information.

Good grief, one would hope they could request a "diabetic meal" but even that usually has overloaded carbs. It baffles me how some dieticians will die on the idea of "healthy whole wheat" for a diabetic. Will NOT admit that it turns to sugar ina person's body. They also recommend high sugar yogurts. You must have eaten a whole lot of scrambled eggs while in the hospital! (Another fav hospital push is chicken fried -breaded- steak. So wrong to do that to meat!)

My husband is a diabetic and when he was in the hospital, in spite of his notice and chart saying he was, they sent regular jello, toast, potatoes, sliced bread, and ice cream for dessert. It was appalling and re-confirmed just how bad our sick care is. It is not health care or the hospital would have been diligent about his meals.

The very great thing is having a Polish meat store in your neighborhood. They have many liverwursts and especially the natural “course” one that I like with small pieces of pork liver and it also has a high fat content. I also get the natural high fat cheeses like one called Krowlewski, which comes right from Poland and is made the traditional way. They also sell a very high fat lightly smoked bacon with the nutritious rind still on. Also they carry pasture raised eggs that they get from a Mennonite farm. These type of stores have so much carnivore goodness. I feel very Blessed to have them close.

Hi Dr. Berry, I’ve been following awhile and your book will be arriving in the mail on Saturday! I’m also in Tennessee but am about two hours away. But I definitely think you are worth the trip- especially since my husband is showing several signs for metabolic syndrome and seems to be sick every week, whether it’s migraines, stomach issues, etc. That being said, love the videos but I’m a busy professional and tend to steer towards podcasts due to my long days and long commute. When are you going to get a podcast??? I’d love to listen to you more!! Also have you done a video on combating sugar addiction? That’s hubby’s #1 problem and he tries to fight it but is literally wired for sugar. Thanks so much and hopefully we’ll visit you soon!!!

I hope that 4 years on, you’ve watched more videos by Dr. Berry and learned the true cause of your fatty liver, if you’re not a drinker of alcohol. I believe I’ve had mild NAFLD too. Dr. Berry says just the opposite of your doctor: eat ONLY fatty meats, and low carb, to cure your fatty liver. The high carb and industrial seed oil-laden (corn oil, canola oil, safflower oil, etc.) Standard American Diet are what cause NAFLD, NOT saturated animal fat. I hope you’re doing well now and feel great! 🙏

Cashews are not a legume. They are technically classified as drupes or "stone fruits" like peaches, plums, apricots, etc. The cashew is unusual, however, as it grows attached to the outside of the fruit (the cashew apple) instead of developing on the interior of the fruit like the "pits" in other drupes.

I watched your video about possible magnesium deficiency- more specifically the symptoms relating to sleep issues and heart palpitations. It spurred me to purchase a magnesium supplement (low dosage of 100 mg per tablet) to see if this might be of benefit. I took one with supper last night and here are some things I noticed: went to sleep well, my whole body feels more relaxed and more flexible plus an overall sensation of inner "balance". While I eat quite well (no wheat or gluten, little dairy or sugar) it doesn't mean you may be getting what your body needs. Thank you for taking the time to share this information - i'm sure you have helped many already.

Julie N I totally agree- eating mammals especially is bad for the planet, bad for our bodies and spirits, and horribly cruel to the animals (factory farming is the #1 cause of climate chaos, and hideously cruel to animals- this is why cameras aren’t allowed in, and there aren’t any windows- it’s a Holocaust). I cringe when I hear dead animal parts recommended, as there are perfectly fine sources of nutrients in the plant kingdom. I’ve been some form of veg for over 50 years (I do eat wild-caught fish now, every 1-2 weeks) and I look younger and have fewer health problems than all my siblings, though I’m the oldest.

a couple of weeks ago I bought hering packed in a watery liquid, and was so much looking forward to eat it- once at home after shopping I read the list of ingredients: sugar, glucose etc. added... :( one really has to look everywhere

Yes! Any farm fish contains antibiotics and all sorts of unnatural man made ingredients just like the farmed chickens or cows and pigs being fed with steroids to make them grow bigger and faster.

Hello Dr. Berry. Thank you so much for all your videos. I have a question regarding the magnesium that you recommended from Amazon the mag 400. I had ordered from Amazon and then the reviews there was a review re:Labdoor. They had said there was arsenic levels a little higher than other magnesium in this product? Now I really don’t trust anyone regarding my supplements because of the big dollar people make selling theirs. So can you tell me what you think regarding this supplement. Ty.

Hi Dr. Barry, I’m a new subscriber, and I am in the research stage of changing my diet to one that is compatible with my PCOS. I have been trying to make sense of the literature out there in regards to the best diet for me, and several places have recommended a keto diet. But, when I cross-reference this with an optimal PCOS diet, the main thing I keep seeing as an inflammatory group of foods is dairy. So now I am confused about it all. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and thank you for your videos!

I like to make a "trail mix" of chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, and shelled hemp seeds and mix them with Asian spices or taco spices. It's better than you might think. Just beware that since nothing is really absorbing the spices, a little goes a long way.

I Love Beef Heart. Unfortunately, the tap water in my area upsets my body pretty badly, so I'm always drinking bottled water. Because of that I eat a lot of beef heart another magnesium-rich foods,, but still take supplements. I'm a lot less concerned about microplastics than I am what my tap water does to me.

Excellent point abut sardines! I will be adding those back into my diet. I love them with a dollop of mustard and salt ;-) . This is an excellent reminder. I take slo-mag and also drink water with Natural Calm powder at night which keeps me sleeping well, keeps me regular and also no leg cramps at night. Dark chocolate is so yummy! Thanks for this super video! xoxoMarjorie
