@mrcheckhammmer7 жыл бұрын
I respect your opinion. But for me, YAH. is a very different track, the beat and the chorus is nice. It isn't anything special in terms of message when you listen to it, but just like every Kendrick track, when you dwelve deep, you will discover it is great. FEEL. is very relateable to me and I think shows a lot of emotion and just being lost. Being the wolf among the sheep. For XXX., easily one of the hardest tracks on DAMN. for me. U2 are amazing there, the flow is insane, it's a unique sound and Kendrick says some meaningful stuff. And GOD. just flows well, and is great when you connect it to the rest of the album. A lot of the songs on DAMN. need to be connected to the rest of the album to be enjoyed to the fullest. But I respect your opinion. Thought I would still say To Pimp a Butterfly is his best album, followed by good kid, m.A.A.d city.

Glad to see a person actually using arguments instead of insults to show their opinions. Dont worry i really like kendrick (as i said top 5). Biscuit And my point is your standard for who is better lyrically or who has a better flow is a matter of opinion. There is no empirical way to figure out who has the best lyrics or flow. It's a matter of taste. My tastes and your tastes are different.
@biscuit87878 жыл бұрын
Myke No... you don't understand its not an opinion... Being better lyrically is not an opinion neither is flow it has a strict definition wether somebody can do better or worse at it would be fast compare Lil Yahcty who dosn't even make sense half the time to Eminem, who is better lyrically? Obviously Eminem compare somebody like Drake to Biggie who has a better flow? Obviously biggie, I'm not saying you can't like Drake or Lil Yachtys flow more but i'm saying one is better than the other like if you have 2 cars one is obviously faster and better in every way i'm not saying you can't like the slower and worse one better i'm saying that the faster better one is just superior to the slower one

He may not have a number 1 single, but he has a shit ton of awards including lyricist of the year 5 times in a row, 2 multi Platinum albums, the highest rated album on Metacritic, To Pimp A Butterfly was studied in a high school class, one of the most consistent, he broke a streaming record, he made the rap game competitive in 2013 on a song that wasn't even his, he pays respect to the ones before him which is rare nowadays, and Nas, Dre, Snoop, Scarface, Pete Rock, and Talib Kwali have stated he's one of the greats.

Kendrick is the goat, when a rap artist makes music that travels to africa (and all around the world), Cape Town, South Africa to be precise and his message touches kids like me that feel like we live in a madd city. That will always beat any grammy, BET award, chart topping single or streaming numbers, when an artist can bring your into his/her world by showing you that its just like yours, making you feel like you grew up in compton, when you in cape town. That is a true goat candidate if not sure thing.

Elwyn Mabila Exactly. I remember him saying in one of the interviews how much he was surprised when he found out his message is universal and reached so many people. I've seen him live twice already and there wasn't any spare space available. Audience was packed and shouting his lyrics together with him, It was in Poland and Czech Republic. He rocks the crowd regardless of place. if Doom is supervillain Kendrick is our super hero. Confident enough not to wear a mask.
@JiminyCrickets7 жыл бұрын
@MrGreenAKAguci00 Uhmm...confident enough to not wear a mask? I sorry, brizzle, but I think your consciousness missed the point of the mask completely and hit the twin towers in 2001 instead. No hard feelings though, they were an eyesore anyways. But for clarity, check MF DOOMS lecture in madrid here on youtube around 15-20 min in. The man himself will explain it to you and trust that the message is solid and definitely has nothing to do with lack of confidence...rather, its quite the opposite: confidence in his craft negating the need to sell the person behind the mask, which to many in the music industry has become common practice...so much in fact, that most have forgotten to actually practice their talent (or lack of). I mean, one has gotta sell something if one dont got the skillz, I get that. Drugs and hookers are expensive. To me, MF DOOM and Kendrick are both GOAT material but for different reasons.

I just came back here after listening to DAMN. If Kendrick puts out another classic album or 2, he won't just be one of the greatest but THE greatest. No rapper ever had such a great album run and if he follows up DAMN. with another great album he basically owns the game. Sure, Drake has more hits, but what makes Kendrick great is that he makes us KNOW that he CAN make hits but he chooses not to. Instead he is slowly building one of the strongest fanbases based on consistency. My personal GOAT Nas didn't even do that. To summarize, he only needs to make 1 more great album and he is undoubtedly the GOAT.

I agree that TPAB is better than DAMN, but does that make DAMN bad. TPAB is a really tough project to beat. I didn't even say that DAMN is a classic, I said that it is a great album. The reason Kendrick is considered the G.O.A.T. is because his message is so much bigger than just hip hop. He sends a message that transcends above all of us, a message that completely contrasts the music that we listen to today. In an era where we bump shit that just sounds fly, Kendrick rises above to speak on actual problems that exist within our own communities. He uses his platform for something greater, something that everyone else is too ignorant to see.

Only thing about Rap these days is that people aren't actually 'listening' to it. They are watching videos. Teenagers listen to the crappiest songs because they have good vids. Then the songs go out of style in 6 months to a year (if even that) So yeah, Kendrick compared to other Crap-Rappers is an easy comparison on a critic's level. He has ZERO COMPETITION. He stays real and a lot of his sound is organic. I personally think he'll get even better and come close to reaching that 2Pac/Biggie mark. He won't be remembered like that obviously, but still, he's a hero in the midst of all these Mumble/Fake Rappers.

Kendrick is a hip-hop legend. I feel like we're in a time, where we are scared to say anything is as good or better than the classic 2PAC, Biggie, Andre 3000, Wu Tang, A Tribe Called Quest, Eminem. But honestly, we gotta accept that change. Like Eminem was regarded as a legend 3 years after he came out, and Kendrick's been in the game for 6 years almost and we ain't got shit to say to him? No legend status, just a ''he's making moves, got big things ahead of him''. Kendrick is a hip-hop legend and an iconic rapper. He is as good if not better than the guys I listed before.
@tupacshakur37456 жыл бұрын

@Neverstar-X Kendrick is a superior rap artist than Biggie and achieved more in an era that does not value lyrical dexterity and glorifies ignorance on the mainstream level. Listen...I'm a major k.dot supporter it's no question that he's the greatest of this generation. Lyrically unmatched, artistically creative, concept albums, flawless production, raw performance, social awareness and just a pure student of the culture. However, to say he's the G.O.A.T is a bit concerning. We have to consider other amazing careers like Andre 3000, Nas, Tupac, Scarface, Jay, Big, Em etc. He's easily in my top 10 but it's not a stretch to say he has some more work to do and is on his way.

In my opinion Kendrick Lamar can GE considered the goat because of his lyrics.He constantly talks about his past and doesn't stray away from who he is. He call things like he sees it in his eyes,he isn't afraid to talk about police brutality on an album or have a controversial performance.Maybe his music doesn't reach the top because most people nowadays just seem to want rappers to talk about how they have money,girls,cars and drink till they pass out.Kendrick doesn't follow down this path instead he give an honest account about life. In his To Pimp A Butterfly album he completely went political while everyone else was just being another rapper mumbling or talking about how they have all of the girls money and liquior

lyrically and flow wise he's not as good as the greats. period. he's got an important message but he's not fucking with dudes like Nas, Pun, Rakim and Em lyrically. and if he's not as good as the greats he can't be the greatest. of you compare him to his contemporaries, then hes one of the best but that's not the standard I hold him too
@dasanigga96548 жыл бұрын
IniTial91 He's definitely better than Eminem lyrically. He has 3 classic albums, while Nas has 2, and 3000 doesn't even have a solo project. Rakim has 1 classic. And and Rakim are arguably better lyricists, but flow wise, only 3000 is better than Kendrick. Kendrick has delivery, poetry, conceptuality, and storytelling over all of them though. Eminem doesn't even deserve a top spot. He's overrated to be honest.

Here's how I see it: Kendrick thinks Nas is one of the greatest to ever do it. Now Nas is most revered for his debut, Illmatic, arguably one of the best hip hop albums ever made. But Nas hasn't ever topped Illmatic since, despite putting out decent records since and having fame with the jay Z feud. Yet Kendrick still looks at Nas as one of the greats. So I think we should judge on whether a rapper is a goat not just from their discography but on their life outside the album, since that's what is their literal source material. Not only has k dot come through with classic worthy albums, but he has done incredible live performances on Colbert and the Grammys. He held a live concert in the streets of LA on a moving stage (it's on KZbin). He's doing more than the more single chatting rappers that get more radio play. Even if people don't like kendricks music, they respect him because they know his raw talent. Looking at all that, I think that makes him a legend in the making.
@hiphopdx8 жыл бұрын
Dope analysis.
@gdiggedy98 жыл бұрын
Kendrick was only 7 years old when Illmatic came out. I'm sure he didn't grow up listening to it. So why would Kendrick refer to Nas as one of the greatest if he only made "decent" albums post-illmatic? It does take more than a great discog, but I think you're giving Nas' catalog the short end. It's a myth that Nas has no classics after Illmatic. He didn't top it, but barely anyone has. So Kendrick has classic worthy albums, while Nas has "decent records". In 2012 Kendrick said Nas' Life is Good was the best album to drop that year. Nas was 39 then. Decent indeed.
@gdiggedy98 жыл бұрын
+Sir Brian exactly! Imagine I Am dropped right now in 2016, the year of Mumble Rap. That album would embarrass anything that dropped this year. It would sound like a masterpiece in today's climate. The bar back then was so much higher.
@CCullen957 жыл бұрын
I hate when people say "Nas has never topped Illmatic". The man produced arguably the greatest hip-hop album of all time, it's a near impossible task for anyone to ever top it, never mind Nas himself. If Kendrick dropped TPAB first, if Kanye dropped MBDTF first (although I personally prefer Late Registration), if DOOM dropped Madvillainy first, people would say the same thing; "Why has he never topped his first album". It's pretty difficult to top near perfection, people need to cut Nas some slack.

Maybe Kendrick isn't the greatest, but the "he needs to put the work in" argument is bullshit. Biggie Smalls, probably the most obvious choice for GOAT, only made two albums before he died. Eminem and Nas have both had their careers defined by one Albums. Hell, by having two certified classics, Kendrick already has a leg up on a lot of people mentioned among the greats.
@gdiggedy98 жыл бұрын
Em and Nas both have more than 1 classic. Nas set an impossible standard for himself on Illmatic, but many feel It Was Written is even better. You could argue that GKMC is better than TPAB. Does it mean Kendrick is falling off? No. So I can see where you're headed with Em, Nas argument. I agree with your point on Big though. He was phenomenal but his catalogue is too small.

Jacob Garcia biggie perfected the craft of rapping though, emceeing and flow. 1 album was the greatest double disk hip hop album and one is the few albums let alone debuts to go toe to toe with Illmatic. Plus biggie influence is everywhere. How many people bite his lines, Sample him, Pay homage to him, use the album cover baby in some sort of way, in the convo for best rapper skill wise too. I think BIG the goat due to clear quality over quantity unfortunately, but the quality was def there nobody can deny that. Plus he arguably never been out-rapped.

dont say that kendrick will diss anyone so bad because eminem had a movie made about him and why you shouldnt diss him. and evey beef he has had he has destroyed. he ended careers buud. And just listen to his beef with mgk, mgk was so scared to reply to killshot that he said he didnt want to "cause to much conflict"

Common's catalogue is sick!! Resurrection, One Day, Like Water, Be, Finding Forever, Dreamer/Believer. Has longevity. He definitely deserves more shine for sure!
@poolandmusic7 жыл бұрын
because Common is a bit of a sellout now and albums such as like water for chocolate get forgotten while he is samboing on the oscars spittin corny mess with John legend. Common has the skill no doubt but yeah he made his choice for the hollywood game. No disrespect it's just the choice he made.

kdot can be the best of all time if he puts out 1 to 2 albums on the level of GKMC and TPAB. He's the best rapper of this generation already but of all time, he'll have to do that

The question is why does he need to have more albums on that level. Section 80 is arguably his best work. Pac had 2 great albums. Biggie had 2 great albums. Nas had 2 great albums, Jay had 2.5-3 great albums, Wayne had 2. The only people in the GOAT conversation with more than 3 classics are Outkast and Kanye.

ryerock32 so illmatic , it was written, stillmatic & god son ? that's 4
@ryerock328 жыл бұрын
DeeDiZeL Stillmatic and God's Son aren't widely considered classics. Nobody bases their argument for Nas being the GOAT off of God's son and Stillmatic (and keep in mind I consider Nas the GOAT).
@KaizerMan8 жыл бұрын
The thing is Kendrick's two classics are concept albums more focused on telling a story and delivering a message than showing his skills. He's different to all the previous legends. Let's be honest, if he made two albums full of verses like his Control verse or his Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe remix verse then he'd be mentioned alongside the greats.

4:21 All money aint good money. Kendrick doesn't shine bc of his associations, or his antics or his relationships with women. He shines bc of his lyrical skill and musical accomplishment. That's his brand! Sounds like a certain other rapper REALLY NEEDED to hear that, but missed it.

Everyone has there opinion on who is the greatest. That's why Hip Hop is Great. But the fact that ILLMATIC pops up in all these conversations and it was released in 94' says a lot about the album and the artist.

nah nigga tupac is most influential. He wrote 4 tracks in a hour and finished album in a week. Hes best songwriter

Kendrick is definitely one of the greatest of all time. It's just nobody wants to admit it because he's new school. In the near future people will look back at Kendrick's work and say he was one of the greatest to ever touch a mic.

As a 30 year old, the cynic in me doesn't want to admit it but this guy is something truly special. He isn't the greatest yet but his trajectory is such that barring any major speed bumps, he will finish in the top 10 of all time. However a part of me does feel that the hype around him is a little extreme. There isn't anyone on his level so naturally he shines that much brighter. Also I feel as though there's room for only one conscious rapper at a time these days. I can't remember the last time two great lyricists have enjoyed concurrent success. This isn't to take anything from Kendrick. He is great but he could do with some serious competition. Please don't throw in names like Drake, Big Sean or J.Cole. One is a popstar/actor, the other is an above average punchline rapper and as much as I love J.Cole, he isn't Kendrick. We had Rakim, KRS ONE, Big Daddy Kane and LL. We had Pac, B.I.G, Snoop, Ice Cube, Nas and Jay We've even had DMX, Andre 300, Eminem, Kanye, Mos Def, Common and Lil Wayne. I know I've missed so many out but my point is all these guys cultivated legendary status' despite the stiff competition. Unfortunately Kendrick doesn't have that and as such we're latching onto him like he's the last of a dying breed...maybe he is and maybe that's what makes him even more special (I know I've just reneged on everything I'd written, what can I say? I'm a contradiction).

I haven't seen that outro clip before. It almost brought me to tears. To have a heavyweight like Snoop Dogg tell you to "run with it, it's yours," must be one of the greatest things you can hear. That means that you not only have the intellectual and musical talent, but you also have the eye of pop-culture. With those two combined, the only thing that could hold you back is yourself.
