no album could ever pull me into and then out of my depression like mr morale and the big steppers did. when it came out, i felt like it was almost made for me, the subject matter and songs fit very well with where i was in my life. rediscovering childhood traumas and letting deep-seated shit boil over until i almost unalived. then i had to relearn to love myself, forgive myself, 100 times. i wanted to add that this climbing the mountain analogy has really reframed how i view not only the world but also my life as a whole. thank you for that.

Key words to emphasize though: *a work of ART* You’re correct, Kendrick is a pure *artist* in every sense of the word - artistic genius though, is not the same as *rap* genius, that’s the issue that hip hop purists have with this topic. Kendrick does *NOT* meet the mark of what a rap purist would define as the greatest or most skilled rapper, he’s a talented rapper for sure, his pen is highly respectable most definitely, but he is, by far, not the best to ever do it nor does he come close to having what could be considered an untouchable or even nearly untouchable pen. Like I said in another comment, Michael Jackson is regarded as untouchable artistic musical royalty, but he has never been regarded as being an untouchable singer when talking about technical skill, or even range vocally. Creative genius and technical skill are 2 entirely different things and that’s where y’all take the wrong turn in these conversations cause y’all are classing them as being the synonymous when that couldn’t be further from reality.

I hope he keeps making music but even if he stopped now his discography is already enough to cement him as one of the goats, 5 certified classics each with an incredible level of artistry, impact, technical ability, novelty, creativity, and genuineness. kendrick is one of the only rappers that has already avoided many of the materialism downfalls, but feels a responsibility. something most artists or rappers ever try. A kanye, or a drake, both have put off responsibilities and have went to the absurd, and meanwhile I see kendrick sit with rick rubin, just talking quietly and calmly. He represents a much higher part of spirituality and walking the boring long-term sucessful route. Kendrick will never stop improving if it goes like that. I can't think of a single rapper that has been to de-materialize the matters of their life and move within themselves and stay consistent with it. it's amazing. he is winning but it ain't glamourous. he's just a good study of life in general.

I think Kendrick Lamar hit a different level of rap, that other rappers can’t hit this level. Even Eminem, Jay-Z, Nas & Andre 3000 can’t. Kendrick’s lyrical ability, storytelling, wordplays, metaphores r amazing. Plus his last album is a whole therapy, he shows that he’s a great artist too next to his rap abilities. He represents right now, what rap means. His music is and his legacy legendary. 🐐💙🙌🏻

He’s definitely a descriptive lyricist and I’d even go as far as saying an artistic genius, but he’s not even close to being the greatest rapper. I hate to assume, but if these are your metrics for a what it means to be a skillful lyricist in rap, then it seems to me that you really don’t have enough of a foundational understanding or wealth of knowledge of technical ability in rap/hip hop to to draw from when it comes to having a GOAT discussion…

One of my favorite parts of any song ever is at the end of 'How Much a Dollar Cost' when he says: "The nerve of Nazareth, and I'll tell you just how much a dollar cost// The price of having a spot in Heaven, embrace your loss-I am God." these lines give me chills every time and i love it so much. Its not even just the lyrics themselves, but more so his delivery. I am not a Christian and would not consider myself anywhere near religious, but this is beautiful. I think it is the most accurate portrayal of God and/or Jesus when looking at the bible in any media ever. That is also why HMaDC is easily in my top three favorite kendrick songs. The other two being 'These Walls' and 'Crown.'

Kendrick music so good I usually don’t even pay attention to the words the first few listens. I just like the sound. Then the message clicks

watched this video on my tv and had to hop on my phone to leave a comment (i never do this) this is the best structured video essay about an artist i’ve ever seen. regardless of him being your favorite artist (mine too) i heard not one ounce of bias nor any overharsh criticism to outweigh it. i’ve been trying to explain to my friends how kendrick’s discography is untouchable by any for the past year now, even more so after the disses, but now i can just send them this video. i commend your video and will definitely check more out, but god this video was amazing. keep up the good work! 🔥

The things Kendrick raps about is aligned to the culture and its roots. Its what classic and OGs like Pac rapped about. Drake is a white boy from upper middle class Canada and uses his connections from his mommy and daddy side in the industry. He also uses upcoming artists that actually live/lived that hard knoxx life to get his game up from his lingo to his ae out there. He like Tom feom the boondocks. I dont want soft closet boy fraud using the N word. He need to disappear and come back as Aubrey BBL drizzy the REAL him.

WOW this is such a well put together video, I love it when a story can be told in a way that is extremely clear to follow, and is very different to other video essays on such a well documented topic such as Kendrick's career. I really hope you continue putting out great quality content. Subscribed.

Im really glad I watched this video. I did not believe someone could write about how much of an amazing rapper and artist Mr. Duckworth truly is in such a short video essay, but yet you did in 23 minutes. The comparison with Rubrick's cubes and Kendrick's album is magnificent as they are both complex to understand how to solve at first and require growing your understanding of things to do so!
