Mike Davies it’s a good idea to make as sure as possible that the race drone doesn’t accidentally spin up with props on and eat your face/fingers. Standard practice is to pull the battery ASAP.

two years ago (age 65) I transitioned from my DJI Mavic Pro / Phantom 4 / Phantom 4 Pro / Autel to FPV. Now at age 67 I fly FPV EVERY DAY ! t night I repair when necessary and build build build ...you can NEVER have enough FPV kwads ! I started sitting in front of a goalpost at a football field . The vertical and horizontal lines gave me reference. DO NOT FLY LINE OF SIGHT ! Do NOT fly in stability mode. and do NOT NOT NOT ever charge your lipos inside. NEVER ! in the garage on concrete or at the field using your car battery , I LOVE the DJI FPV ! Excellent !

Pretty cool watching a “DJI pilot” make the effort to build a quad & fly manually. Once you make it over the hump, things stop breaking, you gain confidence and you feel like you have a superpower. The hobby is kind of stagnant right now so it’d be cool if this system led more people into it.

Thank You So Much !!!! You have just made me feel 100% better at my 1st attempts into FPV. But have to say starting with a Tiny Whoop that has turtle mode seems like a must for beginners . Using 🐢 mode saves so much time after a crash if the drone is upside down just use the 🐢 and drone will flip upright.

You make the best videos with the funniest cuts in them. Keep practicing. I started with a tiny whoop about a month ago and just jumped into a 7" kwad flying acro and doing flips and rolls and only had one crash due to a tree branch. Hey Ken, Another entertaining video. Very edukentional as well. I digging the FPV stuff a lot and you're doing pretty well. Glad you didn't actually lose your antenna combo after all. Does the unit still work? As I'm sure you know if you power up a transmitter without a connected antenna it often damages the transmitter. So I hope that's not the case with the DJI system.

Based on what ive just watched...... 1, practice on simulator even more 2, get that expensive dji unit inside the frame. Some taller standoffs would help to protect from crashes. Very important. 3, smaller battery would help... 1500mah for example. 4, lower throttle limit on beta flight to around 25% 5... Practice 6.. Practice 7 ... Oh and unplug the giant face blender as soon as you get to it after a crash. Brill vid! Loved it

@@KenHeron noticed also how you take off like your photography drones.... Straight up super high. Id suggest a slow gentle increase in prop speed until drone begins to hover then (in angle mode) drop the nose and drone will travel forwards not sky high. One of beginners most common issues is going far too high too quickly. Stay low, stay close, and focus on control. Just practice going in straight lines full length of pitch then land. And repeat. Then do same but instead of landing turn the drone round and come back in straight line. Low and slow. :-)

I was about to comment how impressed I am that you kept it flying as long as you did especially in acro..... then you said "I need more time in the simulator" and THAT makes much more sense. I am a gamer that can play game for up to 9 hours a day some times...... and I been playing games for 25 years. It took me 7 hours in the sim to be able to hover in one spot in the sim. Luckily it's easier in real life, but the sim is definitely essential.

Thanks for a very funny and true video. I also went from DJI aerial photography to FPV, and I enjoyed seeing that I was not alone in pain :-) The solution? Patience, simulators and a patient friend to help you out - exactly what you pointed out too. And thank you also for the battery fireworks at the end of the video, most interesting. Now I use a special container to recharge and store these batteries safely. One more thing: make sure your first FPV drone is an EMAX TinyHawk "S": this is by far the most stable and flyable drone for a noob like me. Cheers!

A 20$ Simulator like "Liftoff" will save you a TON of money when learning. I spent 50 hours or so on the sim and my 1st FPV drone still flys by some miracle. Also just a safety tip, unplug your drone before picking it up... Im sure you like your fingers :) Fpv drones can do some strange things sometimes. Keep it up! couple of tips, learn to disarm to land as one action, just drop it a foot if you have to. and a bit more camera angle , arrange it so you can just see the ground in front of you, you could see below your motors which is too low. this is important because you always want to be flying forward, never backward or sideways, so a little angle helps with this good habit, actually hovering when you are high up for whatever reason is actually quite hard, without visual cues its all about feel and microscopic visual inputs at the edge of the screen. you might need to read up on end points, your throttle seemed to be making it hard for you, maybe the endpoints were not set and it was giving you less throttle resolution than you'd like, i promise you once you find the weight of the quad/throttle combo everything will just click into place.

That's part of the manic nature of fpv. Looking for antennas that were never there to begin with. 🤣

Remember your cell count and don't discharge your batteries to less than 3.5 volts per cell. Remember to storage charge your batteries to 3.8 volts per cell. Try not to forget your vtx antennas and plug in the quad. Without an antenna you can burn out the vtx.

the biggest thing i have seen is you need to use your yaw and roll together to make it flow. if your turning use both sticks to turn it
