My Kenmore 70 series washer was intermittently stopping mid cycle. I determined it was an issue with the lid switch. This is how I figured it out and fixed it.
If you need a replacement lid switch, you can order one here (affiliate link) : amzn.to/3rC2GFQ

Hi, there are a lot of videos showing how to bypass the safety switch ( a very bad idea in my opinion ). There are also numerous videos showing how to tear apart the machine and replace the switch. But your video was exactly what I was looking for: how to FIX the switch without disassemble the machine. Not only it does save some money ( and save a trip to a part store / wait for the on-line ordered part ), it does avoid to scrap a reparable part. That’s best for the environment. Thanks for posting. Note: My machine is an 80 series, but everything is the same for the switch.

Awesome fix, but I would rec’d to anyone watching, to just go ahead and replace the switch with a new one. Your ‘fix’ while ingenious, may not last, and then you're back to having to replace it, just a thought? I replaced ours years ago, and it just stopped working, and so we ordered a new one, and I could not remember exactly how to get at it? I didn’t want to tear the cabinet of the washer all apart, so I found your video, and while it didn't provide quite the info I was looking for, it did help some. I would suggest leaving a bit of space between the washer and dryer, so if the washer has an unbalanced load, when it is in the spin cycle, it wont be banging against the dryer? Take care, hope you're doing well. Peace

This video just saved my hide!!! Got back from vacation with about five loads of laundry to do and it wouldn’t drain. Back to washing now. Thanks for the tip.

My Kenmore started giving the very same trouble today. Your video is spot on and saved me at least $160.00 My tightening wire is not as neat as yours, but it clamps the parts together. The machine now works. My most heartfelt thanks to you!

My switch wasn't falling apart, but ultimately, it was the switch. Thanks for the video and for pointing out that this is an issue and what to target fixing.

Good job. You investigated the problem and solved it by improvising instead of unnecessarily buying a new switch which would have cost you time and money to get one. Fixed it. DONE.

thanks so much for this repair idea---just did it, it saved my bacon and my washer's bacon! I didn't know there was a wrap-wire around the switch-box workaround! I love my Kenmore top-loader [except for this safety switch issue... which has happened before] and will not part with it! I didn't have the time/energy to do the by-pass wire one that I have also seen, or to try to put a whole new switch in--so this was super helpful! :)

I had that exact problem a while back, and solved it by cutting the rubber washer in half, but now I think that might not be the permanent solution. I had just watched your other video about fixing the upper agitator on the Series 70 with new dogs/pawls. I bought some today, so tomorrow when I replace those and I'm already in there, I'll take a look at that switch and know exactly how to fix that if that was the original problem. THANK YOU!!!!

My switch looked pretty bad so I cut the wires at the switch and connected them. It's a good temporary fix. I ordered the part using your link. Less than $10.

Very useful. By just repairing the lid switch by any means possible you saved yourself a lot of extra work like pulling the entire metal washer cabinet out to get to the lid switch to replace it with a new one. Also I have seen a video of someone repairing it with a zip tie. So either chicken wire or metal wire or maybe a zip tie may work.

Not sure what the internals look like, but if you can’t get it sorted out, there’s a link to a replacement switch in the video description. It’s only $10

you did not show taking the switch out and replacing it, That was the important part. also if you do not lift top cover had do you connect green ground wire. Hard to do reaching under, nearly imposable. Also, the switches on the older model 70 have a different connection than some after market.
