Drag Race is not a talk show. Queens don’t go there to get lengthly interviewed. They show their uniqueness, nerve & talent on the show. These sit-down intimate moments are the right platforms to open up like this!
@jhubeJELLO
@jhubeJELLO Жыл бұрын
@Igbogadi Drag Race has still shown the backgrounds of some of the queens. They let Alyssa Edwards' story of being a dance coach, pageant queen, drama with Coco, and her mom's passing be on air. Hell, they let Jujubee talk about her cats. All I know about Kennedy from Drag Race is that she was put in that pageantry box, her 'growth' during the competition to being more than just that, and that she can DANCE. I guarantee you Kennedy would have talked about her family personal life, especially during All Stars to get her voted to top 2 by the other queens. That challenge where they made the queens create what was essentially podcasts in AS7 was so good because they allowed the queens tell us a little more about their stories. This is such a versatile show. It relies on the presence of the queens. Framing Kennedy as being a "bitter and shady" queen was the show's responsibility, especially when they know how the fans can be.

Listening to Kennedy speak from the heart about her relationship with Christ really moved me. As a gay southern kid raised in the church it was a big part of my life. I understand people have negative views/opinions about religion so I don’t really share that side of myself with others in my community because I never want to come across as if I’m preaching when my intent is to share my experience. It’s nice to hear another member of the community talk about their personal relationship with Christ I actually feel seen a little more today. The best part of every episode is the “Girl, you did your RESEARCH” moment from the queens when Maddy pulls out the deep cuts. I think for a lot of people in the public eye they tend to get a lot of the same questions over and over from interviewers who are only really familiar with the surface level stuff, so it’s cool to see them get caught off guard in a good way by those personal moments.

Maddy has such good chemistry with everyone, and she seems to adore Kennedy and it makes this feel like a real conversation between good Judy's and not just an interview, I'm so happy.

I almost cried when Kennedy said that she wasn't liked on her season and also was dealing with such a complicated situation. The dragrace fandom is so toxic at times, and on season 7 Kennedy was definitely my favorite. I was so sad that she didn't get her flowers at the time. A true ICON, and I am so happy to hear her history, such a legend.

damn maddy, i imagine kennedy is not an easy person to interview, you really did a great job of adjusting your style to meet the heavier topics of this interview while still giving signature maddy. props maddy.

I think this interview really showed off Maddy's talents as an interviewer and host, because we've come to expect all kinds of jokes, shade, cutting up and carrying on. But this interview didn't need bits and gags to keep me entertained. I was even more engaged and drawn into the discussion than the other episodes, just off the power of Kennedy's story and Maddy's ability to draw it out. I feel like the sincerity and lack of goofing off was Maddy's way of showing reverence and respect for the caliber of entertainerr that Kennedy is, and Kennedy paid that respect right back by being so generous with her testimony. I love Maddy's comedy, but this was really special too, and I love that for her.
