@professormusica110911 жыл бұрын
You don't get it do you? Guitarists give cred when due. SRV always did re: Jimi, Clapton does re: Muddy and Freddie King. KWS seldom does. If YOU played guitar you'd see how much he's copied the man. RIP SRV
@ciaranw52011 жыл бұрын
I actually don't think he is copying SRV so much at all, sure there are a few of his licks in there but what good blues guitarist post SRV doesn't steal a few of his licks, he was a genius. I actually think there's lot of Hendrix's studio licks in here for note, you don't hear them from many other people, they tend to do their own live improv stuff but this is a really nice mix of great licks and is unique. I'd never seen this guy until today and I'm love Jimi and SRV to bits, but this guy gets my respect too today.

I can't believe all the negative comments about this.....some people really don't understand music do they. They say they do, but I bet they just research it via Google or something to make themselves look like they know what they are talking about. Anyone can use Google, try using your ears. Smashing performance and I do hope they play like this when i see them next year.
@jp022x10 жыл бұрын
What are you talking about? All of the comments that aren't circle jerking this guys non existent talent are simply stating that Jimi and SRV did this song better...and truth is they did. Have you took the time to educate yourself on their performances of this song? If you did you'd realize every single lick this guy played was coped from either SRV or Jimi. Hell he even starts playing Jimi's Power to Soul towards the end. I think most of the people who aren't impressed by this realize that he isn't bringing anything original to the table (which i believe he could) because every lick was coming from SRV or Hendrix. He's not bad but he's not amazing either. (At least in this cover)
@TheLilBolivian10 жыл бұрын
the truth is everyone steals licks from their heros but the point is to make all the licks flow in your own signature way. Sure the ability to do this is AMAZING but i believe creativity is more impressive and there is little to none here... i mean cmon... this isn't a srv tribute band... the guy is capable of being creative i wish he would have been....
@morpheushill190810 жыл бұрын
jp022x I've been playing guitar for 12 years now and I can tell you that man is talented especially based on one thing which is actually what you think is a negative. He played it exactly what it's like on the CD which is harder to do than adding on your own "flavor" because you don't have the ability to repeat exactly what was copied onto that track at that time. that takes talent. You people need to actually pick up an instrument and if you already have then actually play with a band before you try to critique other artist on something you know nothing about.
@jacobtarring245510 жыл бұрын
Mr White, I totally agree with you, I'm referring to previous comments about how shit certain people feel this performance is. Ok, so it's not Jimi Hendrix or SRV but bloody hell, to play like that still takes talent. I can't wait to see him and his band.
@jp022x10 жыл бұрын
Mr White What track are you referring to? This is more a conglomeration of as many SRV licks as he could fit . My critique has less to do with his skill and more his dependence on SRV. He obviously has skill because you can't just pick up a guitar and play this. He's Kenny Wayne Shepherd not the SRV cover band, right? For me I feel like the highlights of his guitar playing are just straight from Stevie Ray's playing

For the most part, I agree with ya. And I am a Jimi fan since the age of 13, and worshipper one year later when I saw and heard him play, for the last time, in Seattle. But they say that emulation is the greatest form of flattery. And this guy emulates JH better than anybody I'VE ever seen or heard. Trower, Randy Hanson, SRV....... Kenny's tribute to Jimi moved me. Of course, there's no comparison to The Master. There never has been, nor will be. But, play on Kenny. Peace out, from Seattle.

my friends dad. left hendrix isle of wight dvd at his house and a day or 2 later i came up to the door and heard him jamming and he started playing voodoo chile. instead of going inside i just stood outside the door so he would just keep playing like no one was there. i'd never heard him bust out something like that, unless he was playing a show and doing covers (which he would make up verses to because he really only knew the chorus) he'd always do his own songs. i read a newspaper clip about him from the 70s and they described him as a mixture of bob dylan and hendrix. sad to think about how much other talent has slipped through the cracks...

@andrewlarson6038 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. Jimi was very creative and influencial in the annals of the electric guitar but I agree that he is too often put on a pedestal. As far as I'm concerned Stevie Ray blew circles around Hendrix in the arena of technical precision, soloing architecture and organization of ideas, and consistency in quality of performances. I also find that SRV's music resonates with me personally and yes, I feel SRV's version of Voodoo Child. (Slight Return) is definitive.

@juliamonroe496810 жыл бұрын
No that is opinion, and ours are obviously very different. Zakk wylde can play, but in my opinion, his playing lacks passion and heart. Technical proficiency alone leaves me cold. Again this is just my opinion, obviously not everyone will agree, and some will disagree just to be contrary lol. It is what it is.....
@triffymetalas10 жыл бұрын
y, I just mean that the technical part isn't so important because it's not so difficult to play the guitar conveniently and ..you know, but the thing that makes a guitarist great,is his style and the way they make their songs sound unique.Although I highly respect Jimi Hendrix and SVR and I like their styles,at this particular song ,kenny's style and the way he plays it says much more things to me,I can't be bored to listen it,I love it much more than the other 2 versions,but you are right this is my opinion.

This guy plays Jimi and SRV licks (which is ok) but that doesn't take him to the next level. Also when he plays Jimi or SRV licks he lacks the fire those guys had.

Nobody had near the fire that Jimi had I mean damn think about it Jimi was doing this shit as far back as 1968....Now every guitar player with talent has to do there version of "Jimi's Voodoo Child slight return"...It just shows you how far ahead of the game Hendrix actually was...Jimi's music is as fresh today as it was in 68... and 100 years from now people will still be in total aw of Hendrix...

wedge antilles When you watch these debates about skill on the internet over and over again you just realize it's all subjective and debating about it is nonsense.

wedge antilles I agree with you man. He didn't do anything special in my eyes. He didn't capture your soul like most blues guitarist do. I was honestly expecting him to go off solo wise instead of just pretty much improvising on the main riff. I get what your saying you aren't comparing him to Jimi or SRV... he just didn't capture you as if you were listening to Robin Trower, Joe Bonamassa, or Eric Clapton. Just like John Mayor hes an ok blues guitarist but nothing special.

if you cant sing and play it Mr Sheppard, stay home. Especially when all your doing is a bad srv version--note, for, note, over, and over, and, over...

mike hanold so, what im getting is that you are concerned for my hearing loss do to excessive skull fucking? Thanks Mike. I really appreciate your concern, though I'm not sure how this will help the talentless mr. Sheppard. Ps, what exactly is a , "knob fuck?" thanks again.

TheInboil A base ball bat up side your head would be a start,sorry fuck knob,your welcome

mike hanold OK got it. So, a fuck knob is merely a euphemism for the act of hitting one on the side of the head with a baseball (one one Mike) bat? Wow. This is why I love the internet--you learn something new every day. But still, this will not help Mr Sheppard with his god awful, beat to death version of this song. IF you look at Mr Layton's face, you can clearly see how miserable he is having to listen to the horrid wails coming from that poor Stratocaster. Mr Sheppard needs to retire and spend his time preaching the gospel of 3 chords and 4 licks, which is what he has been playing for 20 years. Ok Mike, you have a great day now.

So what if Kenny's not singing on his voodoo child cover not all guitarist always sing! Anyhow its not like he cant sing he just prefers not to on some songs! and your comment about Kenny copying SRV is just ignorant he just showing his respect for Stevie's version of Voodoo child many musicians do covers!
