Truly an excellent video, accurate, beautiful clear video work with well articulated and easily understood instructions, congratulations! I have owned airhead BMW's since 1962 but I also have two K 100's in my stable, an 85RT and an 87KRS. I was working for BMW of Denver when the K models came out and went to K school in LA in 86. To my knowledge the broken lash gear issue was supposed to be fixed after the 85 production run, however, my 85 with over 100,000 miles never developed the issue but the 87 had the noisy lash gear on start up when it was given to me years ago with about 45,000 miles on it. The gears only rattle when the engine is started cold. I run it up to about 2,000 rpm while warming it up and the rattling ceases after a mile or so of running. I have never fixed it because of the major time involved in fixing it and because it is a happy motor when at all warmed up. Also, I am 77 yrs. old now and not motivated to fix an issue which seems to be more of an annoyance than a problem. Again, congratulation on a superbly done video.

Good to see the KLR 650 over your shoulder at the end!! I bought a 2018 KLR and now loving it, looked up your KZbin channel again as you have great tutorials on maintenance for the KLR. Ironically I owned 2 K100's in the 1980's a straight K and a K100RT both bikes where just the best. The straight K I rode from Brisbane Qld down around NSW and Vic Great Ocean Road and back in 1987. Never had a problem with them. I'm looking for another K to play with these days so this video is just the ducks nuts! I'm a old guy now at 55 and really appreciate you as a young fella putting up an in depth mechanical tutorial! Love your work mate, keep em coming. Cheers.

Haha, I see you have great taste in bikes! The KLR still lives on and gets ridden regularly, it has so much character. The K100rt I bought was an ex-police bike and was ridden hard! So there's plenty of more videos to come on it! Thanks for watching and the great feedback.

Hey young fella what’s new? I found my comment from 5 years ago! I’m riding several Royal Enfields and a new Triumph T120 these days. I still haven’t got myself an old K100 yet, its on my to do list tho. I’m fast approaching 60 years so looking to buy myself a 2025 adventure machine to do some travels. Hope your doing well mate, ride safe. 👍

Wish this was a little sooner, just had to swap these myself! Pretty straight forward as your video proved though. Nice production lighting, voice over and explanation.

Great video. wish i saw this when i had my engine fully apart to change the rear main seal, timing chain, and head gasket. After watching this its clear I should've done the output shaft as well but I guess I'll save that for another time. Awesome video though.

Hello. I have BMW K75RT 1996 and in my case i hear some knocking noise inside the engine. I found 2 issues. One is Rubber bearing in alternator. Second is some bearing or seals in output shaft. But i can`t find what exactly parts is it. could You help me with it and find out what part number it is have?! I really need to understand what i should replace in next major clutch service. Thanks a lot!

I found mine was difficult to get the flywheel off the output shaft. I found taping each end of the shaft with a mallet and alternating it back and forth got the spline of the shaft to unstick from the flywheel

I know this is an old video but did you use an o ring on the output shaft on the flywheel side that goes on just after the threads of the flywheel center nut? I have read it may not need to be used anymore but it’s not clear. Bmw part # 11211460467
