You spend a few hours training the characters then they get unlucky against some slavers then get carted off to a city for the slavers to attacked and killed right outside by some dust bandits and then bleed out on the ground because you accidentally stood up when they were fighting and a slaver took personal offence to that
@luisg.lazzarisdoamaral30163 жыл бұрын
I think the moment I fell in love with Kenshi was when I was in day 3 or 4 of one of my save files and my two party members got their ass beat by dust bandits. Ruka is the one person playing dead and at that moment I decided she wasn't the type of person to stay dead. I get her to stand up and while she slowly gets back onto her two nearly broken legs she says something along the lines of "I'm going to keep my honour. Horn or not." Every dust bandit turns to face her. A single swing of her Plank knocks one of them out, the bandits have the majority of their flurry of blows blocked by her, and eventually, Ruka is the last one standing with barely an ounce of blood left in her body. She picks up her unconscious bug-man buddy and limps her way out of there on her way to many days of bed rest after snatching the first victory in a fight out of nowhere. This save file has continued to be an emotional rollercoaster ever since

Ruka is my hero man. Remember my lone adventurer first playthrough, just my starter character and her. Learned the hard way why fog islands dangerous, managed to kite fogment all the way into some hungry bandits. Main character bleeding out unconcious, Ruka 1v1ing the 1 remaining fogman. It was a fight she couldn't win - Thankfully the fogman was more crippled. She kited him away, ran back to bandage the main character a few times, stop the bleed-out. Eventually picked him up and carried his catatonic ass, limping, all the way back to stack with them both starving.

If I don't roleplay I use a fast boi as distraction while the rest of my squad loots the surroundings. I think the worst luck ancient tower I've found was the one in reaver territory.... I'll never forget how I broke the seal on that accursed tower and 30 blood spiders sprint out immediatly. I remember having my skeleton crawl to the entrance to lock it again. i actually disagree with how he built his gate walls. In my game they are concave so that my guys wont shoot each other but they are concave in the opposite direction going outward from the main gate, not inward from the gate. So I have walls long enough to post up 3 turrets on each side of the gate that enemies have to pass by on their way to the gate. The gate walls then run straight into a large tower on each side. So that any enemy that wants to get to the gate must first pass by two corner towers with turrets on top and the wall turrets.

Mine's are steeply angled, and supported with twin watchtowers armed solo-harpoon turrets and manned by the best turret operators of the group, becoming the best 1-shot snipers. A pair of 6-barreled harpoon turrets at the placements closest to the gate to maximize DPS and make the best of its lowest precision. Followed by pair of crossbows in case of power failure, pair of dual barrel harpoons with spotlights to directly spotlight enemies that might not be covered by floodlights illumunating the zone. Then another pair of crossbows. I try to keep someone or two as the heavily armored gate guard at full coverage and as much projectile resistance as possible. Tempted to just deploy crabs as guards, but they are better off as my heavy travel party since they can't patch themselves up, though they offer impressive toughness experience.

To be fair, you do become a bit of a hero after awhile, but you’re also a villain in the eyes of the people you’ve taken down. Killing the Dust King or random dust bosses will prompt dust bandits to always attack you, mentioning how you killed their friends. Kidnapping Emperor Tengu will cause the anti-slavers to praise your name, but the Samurai will brand you a terrorist and try to outright kill you for abducting the Emperor, rather than imprison you. It’s very well crafted in that regard, even the strongest of your characters will never be a messiah of good who restores order and lets everyone live happily ever after.

speaking on the moral choices, i remember a time when i was running a small squad whos goal was a guerilla war against HN. they were traveling in okrans valley & came upon a small farming settlement. i sent in my squads thief for a little harmless property alteration in their storage room, just to keep my already well squad in the green for a while longer, & then i thought "hey theyre just farmers, why not just take everything so i really dont need to worry about this expedition in the worst possible situation?" so sure, because i considered holy nation citizenry as combatants we send in the group to grind the bigots into dust, while in the middle of this, theyre having dialogue blurbs asking for mercy, asking why we're doing this, & begging us to stop. i patched them up before i left but it made me think as the squad was walking away, bags so laden with loot walking was all they could do. i didnt *need* to raid the farmstead, i couldve just passed it by, & had plenty chances to walk away. they couldve just been genuinely nice people trying to get by in a safe if draconian society. little moments like that happen all the time in kenshi, its great

@StarkeRealm4 жыл бұрын
The game isn't actually that brutal. In context, the world of Kenshi is horrific, but the gameplay itself isn't. When you hear things like, "physics based combat," you get the wrong idea. The game is still, functionally, a real-time with pause RPG. If blends at the edges with RTSs, because of how well it scales into larger forces. So, my advice would be to take a look. It's difficult to come to grips with, but it's not like this is some kind of Dark Souls style experience.
@Alex_Barbosa4 жыл бұрын
Yea it's actually pretty hard to die if you have more than one person. And still unlikely with just one. You will almost always just be knocked out for a little while, unless you were fighting carnivorous animals. Getting beaten up, knocked out, and patching yourself up is literally the fastest way to increase your stats and champion the next fight.
@captain_buggles4 жыл бұрын
@@Alex_Barbosa If you're a weak enough solo guy then it actually is pretty likely that any fight against sharp damage will put you into ""dying" territory, so I would kinda argue against that "still unlikely with one" thing, but yeah once you have backup it's not so bad, and 3,000 for a new recruit seems like a lot at first but it's really not. I had a greenlander dude, so I just made all my starting money by running around outside of a holy nation city and looting every river raptor kill the guards made. Those pelts seriously add up quick, so it wasn't long before I had some recruits and then trained them a bit so I could start fighting the raptors myself.
@captain_buggles3 жыл бұрын
@D Dichev Fair enough, since in my case I just started playing a month ago, chose the lone dude and his dog, so at that point I didn't fall into the category of "knowing what you're doing" at all. I knew about places like the ashlands, but I was still dumb enough to end up becoming a criminal entirely by accident, which got me killed once or twice when nobody bothered to tend to my wounds fast enough. And my spawn was some crappy ruin a little to the west of the UN cities, so I spent a bunch of time trying not to starve and getting chased by the giant desert bugs. At one point they caught my dog and I didn't feel like save scumming for him, so RIP starting dog. That whole fiasco was why I decided to go down to the Holy Nation instead.

To be fair if you use the 256 recruitment mod you can also turn up the squad size on the NPCS as well. So if I have 100 men in my army I also turn up the NPC squad size to three times the normal setting as well to even out the difficulty. I also use a popular mod that adds a lot more people to towns, this way there are more people defending it when I attack with a massive sized army.

Fun fact for those that have already been through the game a few times: The Enslaved start nets you an excellent way to build your ability to work, your toughness, your dexterity, your strength, your unarmed skill, and your lockpick skill if you don't mind getting your teeth kicked in repeatedly. As long as you don't get yourself killed doing it, you get all the time in the world to brawl against the bigger and tougher forces that make up all the guards all over the place.

Easiest way to deal with Beakthings, get a crossbow, and someone to distract them. You can also dodge their attacks fairly easy if you move away once their attack animation starts. There is also now an Animal Feeder for animals though, and Goats and Bone Dogs can enter buildings of their own volition, so long as the door is open, not to mention they should also eat from packs as well. Pretty sure Mercs are a finite resource, so if you waste them, they won't get replaced. Not to mention most are Tech-Hunters which don't have a Pacifier, despite being a pretty massive faction present in practically every city. So if you get on their bad side, good luck continuing the game.

Great vid :) I started Kenshi a month ago, took me about 5 playthroughs to get a secured base in place ^^ And that might only be because I found an amazing base setup: First, get allied with the Holy Nation (need 50 relation points, easily achevable with bounties), then they won't bother you about mechanical limbs and non-humans (Yayy Beep! :3). Now you're free to build a big-ass base in Okran's Pride, it's heavily patrolled by Holy Nation Paladins for protection and it seems that bandits don't ever dare to raid me anymore. (Not sure if it's a bug or a feature tho)
