agnu is a female by the way! (identifying as one),unless its an oversight,in one of beeps dialogues talking about human women,when he asks who else is a woman,agnu will make a noise,actually making him go unconscious for a small while,really funny moment

If only soldier skeletons are thralled, it may indicate a particular combat enhancement. A sort of berserk fury survival mode. My speculation is, when a soldier skeleton is under physical and mental stress, It can redirect power from it's higher level processing to enhance it's remaining functions. Theoretically increasing the skeleton's chance to survive. Agnu resetting his CPU, yet retaining his resistance to being enthralled, suggests a defect in him particularly. Perhaps he can't access the mechanism, or has a hyperactive sense of self module.

That's an interesting idea. Shut down the brain and instead let the body act autonomously on pure combat/survival protocols. Removing the head prevents this function from being reset keeping them as combat zombies. It should be noted that many thralls are also that of Screamer units as well. Maybe screamers were designed as a sort of Vanguard unit where as Soldierbots were more like the more elite combat regiment.

I really hope enthrallment is a possible death state for your skeleton characters in Kenshi 2. Imagine losing a battle, similar to cannibals Kenshi 1, the thralls will pick up and kidnap any Skeleton that falls in battle. They will then carry that skeleton to an enthrallment facility (Or simply to Venge.) where that skeleton will be enthralled, keeping his skills, armor, and weapons, but you lose all control over him as a player. Giving you the possibility of having to face down and defeat your old character. potentially creating a badass Boss Skeleton which roams the world.

I always imagined that the reason behind Agnu's broken voice is that when Ponk and Screamer attempted to enthrall her, she managed to survive the attempt at the cost of her voice. I think it'd make sense logically since enthralling mainly involves removing the head and the voice module would obviously be contained within the head as well. Plus thralls tend to make weird screeching noises akin to what Agnu makes.

Agnu probably wants to protect Beep because of the trauma they experienced. Agnu has spent 1000 years fighting to maintain their identity and sense of self while simultaneously being tortured and watched 24/7. This leaves lasting issues to the point that when you go into Venge again with agnu in your party they will start screaming and refuse to move for a bit even if you manually move them. Where as beep is a small and innocent creature. They have yet to experience the world and has their whole glorious life ahead of them. I imagine Agnu sees Beep as a diamond on the rough as it were and wants to protect that optimistic innocence. That's why they are so tight.

If you look closer at agnu, their head is a different color from their body, I’d always interpreted this as an attempt to restore a thrall to sentience by attaching a new head.

I think that's just the way the hue wheel works on the soldier bot model, as much like the hivers, the only part that changes between the MK1 variants of skeletons is the head model. So they might have made the base head for the solderbots darker than the body. That would be why other soldierbots who have a lighter tone look like that too, but most have a darker rusted hue instead. But who knows. Maybe you're on to something. Maybe it's a Frankensteins monster type deal.

I'm a little confused, being very new to the actual lore of Kenshi. Is there no way for the skeletons to create a sort of restore point for themselves? It seems like all they have access to is a factory reset, but if they're basically sentient computers, wouldn't it be possible to invent a back up system? Or do they lack the kind of tech to give them that framework and I just never noticed?

The tech and understanding needed to create or fully repair skeletons was lost after the fall of the 1st empire. The skeletons, while being computers, are not inherently quick learning AI we often think of. Instead, they are basically human consciousness and emotions limited by a computer based brain. In order to fix or improve themselves, they'd need to learn how through trial and error and advancement in their knowledge just like normal people. But given the limitations in their ability to maintain their skills and mental stability, it makes sense that they dont prioritize rebuilding their kind. And given that they are the very ones who destroyed the empire that created them, it makes sense their creators in the form of the 1st empire, an empire that was VERY paranoid and proactive in their defense to potential threats, would restrict their knowledge of self creation, improvement, and maitnence in a way to prevent them outpacing the empire itself. As for a backup system, I don't think they have a way to house that much data outside a sentient system. The data is so cumbersome that it ends up driving them mad if they don't purge the emotional load every so often.

I think I was inherently underestimating the raw amount of data they would need to store for that backup because "hey the bots are alive, they solved data storage issues!" But if they lost a ton of the tech knowledge to even fix themselves, it would follow they also lost access to the kind of hard drive that could store their entire consciousness in any way.
