Whether you arrive at Haneda or Narita airport, I highly recommend taking the Airport Limousine Bus into Tokyo. Check online for their various stops in Tokyo. It may cost a bit more but you won't have to lug your baggage, transfer to different trains or get lost in the train station. Buy a ticket in the arrivals lobby after clearing Customs n Immigs. (There might be discounts for round trip tickets, seniors). You're allowed 2 pcs of luggage to go in the bus bay. Board, sit back, enjoy free wifi. There's even a toilet on board.

@519410288 ай бұрын
@@mishunot. You will need to check their schedule online. I stayed at the Tokyo Hilton Shinjuku and the bus stopped there only at certain times. Also check what train station is nearest to your hotel and see if the bus stops there. You can always take a taxi from that particular stop to your hotel. If you're using USD$ the exchange rate makes the cost manageable.

My travel agent booked me a Company called "Green Tomato" that had a driver waiting for me at the airport. After a 10+ flight, it was a Godsend just to be able to walk into arrivals and have someone standing there with a sign with my name on it to drive me to my hotel. Rather than having to worry about finding the train or bus depot. The price was quite reasonable as well, I think it worked out to about 26 dollars.

Something that’s not talked about enough is checking with your mobile carrier about their international roaming service before ordering a pocket WiFi or SIM card - so far, I’ve only seen one video advise that. My carrier offers free text and basic data, with upgraded data for $15 a week. Considering I mostly need my phone for Google Maps and some light web scrolling, that’s plenty for me.

There are some remote areas of Hokkaido that don't accept payment by IC card. Here's our video on this topic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4vUo4mmhrGFmM0 For bullet train tickets you can purchase them at JR ticket offices, from ticket vending machines, or online. Hello! Thank you very much for informative video. Really appreciate how your videos makes it easier to plan for first time travelers to Japan. Do you have any advice for a very early AM arrival? 4:45AM, it seems the Haneda Airport Garden is a good option to just walk around while everything opens up? I was hoping to get regular Suica in the airport but is that option not available? I understand that there was a chip shortage but recently it seems that it's only available in certain stations but there was no mention of it yet at the airports. I also tried to reach out via email (your website form), in hopes in getting a referral to Charles Schwab. Thank you!

Hi, the garden is a good option! Many shops will open by 6am. I asked about the regular Suica in early February 2024 and the JR office at HND said it was currently not available at HND. They recommended visiting the office at Tokyo station where it is for sure available. She also mentioned a particular machine at Tokyo station but I don’t remember the location. But since this was a couple of weeks ago you might want to ask the JR office at HND if they are now available. And thanks about Charles Schwab, sorry we are very slow to respond to emails as we get so many. Currently, Schwab only offers referrals if customers are making huge deposits but we greatly appreciate you asking😀

Got some tips from your video but my question is we’re flying into Haneda Airport Terminal 3 on JAL from the USA and traveling to Sapporo on JAL domestic flight from Terminal 1, From what I heard we have to go to the foreign arrivals area just like everyone else and clear immigration and customs then pickup our luggage. I heard that outside the Arrivals area there’s a JAL domestic luggage drop off area to bring our luggage, do you know where it’s located? I also heard it’s faster to catch the Keikyu Line to Terminal 1 because there’s always a long line with the free shuttle service. Seems like JAL made our layover only about 1 hour 35 minutes which is pushing it. If you can assist us with what you know it’ll be greatly appreciated.
@KenshoQuest3 ай бұрын
Aloha, after you clear immigration and customs, you enter the arrival hall turn right and go all the way to the end of the hall and you will see the Domestic Transfer counters. If they are not open, you will see the elevators or escalators that will take you downstairs where you can check-in. Taking the Keikyu or Monorail is debatable so choose which you think is faster depending on the time of day you will arrive. The last time we took this exact same route on JAL was in February. We arrived at 8:00 am and when we boarded the monorail there was no line. So it really depends on the time of day. Since you are short on time, please choose to fill out your forms online, it will save you a precious few minutes.

Yes. We entered our information on Visit Japan Web and showed the QR codes for immigration and customs. It makes it a bit faster, but the main factor is how long of a line. Are you traveling as a family, by chance? There is a priority lane for those with a baby, pregnant, in a wheelchair, etc.

Thanks for the info. My family will be flying into Haneda from Hawaii with a connecting flight to Sapporo in October. Flying with JAL on both flights. I have a few questions. Will we need to collect our check-in luggage before proceeding thru customs, and then catch our connecting flight? And should we purchase our Suica cards at Haneda or can we do it at New Chitose airport? I'm trying to figure out how much time to give for our layover at Haneda before getting to Terminal 1 for a connecting flight to Sapporo. Mahalo!
@KenshoQuest8 ай бұрын
We also flew JAL both legs. Yes, we collected our luggage at Haneda and transferred to a different terminal before checking our luggage for our flight to Sapporo. If you want to get a Welcome SUICA card you should get it at Haneda. It’s possible to buy a SAPICA card in Sapporo, but it may not be as widely accepted across Japan as SUICA. It would work in Hokkaido, though. Be sure to be aware of luggage allotment for your flight within Japan, as it may be less than your flight from Hawaii. Here’s some packing tips regarding that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5nCd6ahptSajLcsi=VWO0LwZ8GZYfmVNL

If both flights are on JAL, take advantage of the JAL Domestic Transfer/Connection Service Counter. Go through immigration, pick up your bags, and go through customs. As soon as you enter the arrival hall, walk a couple hundred feet to the right, and it will be on your left. You can check in and drop off your check-in luggage there for your connecting JAL flight to Sapporo. You won't have to take your check-in bags on the shuttle and check in at Terminal 1.

What about these automatic portals supposed to help you go swiftly through immigration and customs, with the QR code you received upon registration online?
@KenshoQuest8 ай бұрын
At Haneda Airport we have shown our QR code to an immigration officer and gotten a sticker/stamp in our passports (twice). It’s important to us for picking up JR rail passes. I also used my QR code at a machine for Customs, but I think since we are a family, we still had to show our passports to a person, as well. 🌸 Heidi

I will arrived at Haneda airport and will take the connecting flight to ITM airport, Osaka. Can I purchase Suica card in Haneda airport while I wait for the connecting flight? If yes, where can I get one? Also, Is it better to travel from Osaka, Kyoto, than flight out Tokyo since the Shinkansen pass is very expensive?
@KenshoQuest8 ай бұрын
HI, yes you can. purchase a Welcome SUICA or PASMO Passport as discussed in the video at those locations. Regular SUICAs are sold out again. As for transportation, I recommend you consider purchasing individual shinkansen tickets vs flying into ITM but compare the prices. Shinkansen will most likely be faster and a smoother ride since it is more direct, you don't have to go to an airport and no security checks.

Can I ask you a question? I know that Sanrio Pasmo passport card expires after 28 days, let’s say I come back six months later can I treat that card as a regular Pasmo card and add money and keep using it?

Sorry, but no. The PASMO Passport will no longer work after 28 days.

How much money would you recommend that I put on the welcome suica card for a 28 day stay? Thanks
@KenshoQuest8 ай бұрын
There’s no need to load all the value on at once. We usually charge our IC cards in 1,000-2,000 Yen increments. You could put a bigger chunk at first. We don’t like to put too much, in case we were to lose the card.

Do you know if there are ATMs that will take USD cash (like $100 bills) and change them into yen?

Hi, I do not. However, at Haneda there are a couple of currency exchanges. One is right next to the 7 Bank ATM, the one explained in the video.

Have you tried using an international plan from your US provider? I have T-mobile and it seems like I can just pay a fee that will allow me to roam without a giant fee. Why do you opt for the pocket wi-fi?
@KenshoQuest7 ай бұрын
Hi, I have not personally, but a good friend of mine uses T-mobile every time he visits and hasn't complained of issues. However, I have heard from others of mixed results. So your experience may vary. We personally always get both a pocket wifi and an eSIM - but we use a lot of data!

Do you go through immigration and customs before or after you purchase an IC card?

Hello…I am flying into Haneda in July with my 13 year old daughter. Do you know if Japan customs requires a notarized letter (signed by both parents) for a single parent traveling with child? Canada customs has asked me for such a letter when traveling there with my daughter. I guess to make sure that my daughter’s mother is aware of our international travel. Thanks for any info you may have!

Is 1.5 hr layover doable(baggage, customs and immigration) for international flights with a domestic connecting flight ?
@KenshoQuest6 ай бұрын
Hi, you will be cutting it close. If you have all your pre-arrival forms completed ahead of time it will still take 30-45 minutes during non-peak hours. Then you will need to take the train or monorail to either terminal one or two and possibly a long walk. I don't recommend it.
