I feel equally privileged and horrified. Today we're taking a quick look at another recent Whack An Atheist Wednesday featuring yours truly. It involves Kent lying and misrepresenting my position completely, conflating evidence with opinion and so much more.

As a trans woman my experience with Christian love was reason enough to make me an atheist. I used to be an active member of a Christian denomination, I taught Sunday school, directed the Christmas pageant, and represented the congregation at the synod conference . When I came out as trans and decided to transition some in the congregation took it upon themselves to takeover teaching the Sunday school kids , took over my position as a Delagate to the synod , and some even refused to speak to me. I have come to believe that if that is Christian love and how their god wants them to behave then I no longer want any part of it!

I’m afraid that seeing people like Kent Hovind on the Internet has turned me away from religion. I’m not an atheist: I just stopped devoting any runtime to religion because I don’t want to end up being a loon like Hovind. COVID had forced a pause in church attendance anyway, so I just never went back. Because of Hovind and flat Earth people like him.

I've always been atheist and I'm genderfluid but I often find myself still feeling compelled to defend religious people that were not acting hurtfully towards others. Granted this is probably because I empathise with them over the reason they are targeted without opening their mouths. That being that some people feel the need to take issue with members of certain minority religions choosing to wear particular headwear. I feel like they are being attacked for the same stupid reason people see fit to attack me for wearing the "wrong" clothes. So promptly the part of me that is like "Are they harming you in any way?", "Nope thought so, now shut it", comes out. I'll also defend them for honestly answering a provocative question designed to give the asker an excuse to be an ass. I'm less sympathetic to those that bring it upon themselves by trying to evangelise to random strangers however. If anything I'd be more likely to step in on the side of the person they are pushing at and ask them to demonstrate their claims. But that is just me I don't intentionally go out of my way to engage such people but I do think anyone openly evangelising ideas in public invites a public response and as such I feel obliged to accept that invitation against any expressing bigoted ideas. Those that live and let live honestly I'm good with, even if that means they choose not to interact with some people more than they have to, I at least respect them for recognising they have nothing nice to say and saying nothing. I just hate those that feel the need to project their hate onto others.

an anglican church near me had a covid christmas church service I watched and said that not only were people of other religions welcome, but ATHEISTS as well. Go to a mennonite church and many of them don't even TALK dogma. Although the response to saying "I'm coming out as trans" would likely be "so? Get back to work". But they also made a point of saying the service was held on unceded first nation land. I don't know what religion a 'synod' is, but there are LOTS of denominations not fundamentalist and don't care about gender issues at all. In fact its embarassing because many ISLAM mosques are not openly friendly and thats less than ONE generation away from fundamentalist countries.

Emma I love your vids, I am an American and unfortunately your point of having to remind people from the US that the US is not the entirety of the world rings all too true and even we Americans who have a brain have to remind other Americans that we are not the world and that American views don’t translate to other countries and the reason there are so many countries that have issues with the US is because we try to push our views on them. I grew up in a Christian home under a Baptist pastor that believed like KH, and forced me to attend a Baptist college, I had been questioning god from the time I was in the 7th grade, and then the first year I was in the Bible College they had a week long conference with Kent and it was the single most important event in my deconversion process, after it I stepped up my questioning of doctrine and with a year and a half was asked to leave the college and church under the guise of a crisis of faith when the truth was not a crisis of faith but rather a total lack of it and being offered not one good reason to have faith. Keep putting them out there and I will watch everyone of them.

Yea except the Bible is historically infallible, almost all the fathers of modern science are Christians and our entire time-line is wrapped around the life of our Lord and savior Christ Jesus. There's absolutely no debate among modern historians about the Bible's credibility. Atheism is the silliest religion ever made. Why would you militantly defend a position as ignorant as the universe and all life in it coming from absolutely nothing. Science has laws. Please learn them. Weird how modern science agrees more and more with the Bible as time goes by. At the time it was written, the "scholars" of the earth thought the planet was flat. I thank God for Copernicus and Galileo, a couple of Christians, for inching us closer to the truth of God's glorious creation.

I walked into a friend's home, clearly very frustrated. She asked why I was so bothered. I told her I had been in an argument with someone who said the Earth is 5000 years old... She responded, "That's just stupid! The Earth is 7000 years old!!!" My jaw hit the floor and I said, "WHAT???" "It's in the Bible". I asked "Where? I must have missed that bit when I read it multiple times." She went on to explain that she had never read it and she's not certain the person who told her that had either... And that dinosaurs didn't exist... I walked out not wanting to frustrate myself any further. My point, is that a large number of "Christians" have never done the reading but a solid chunk of non-believers have. These people are so difficult to have a conversation with. I envy that level of blind faith while at the same time pity that level of ignorance. Love your videos!

Science-Denial is a BIGGER Problem than most Casual Watchers of any given channel realize. Science-Channel, Debunk-Channel and Atheist-Channel are spiritual siblings or blood-related or however-you-wanna-say-it, but most out of the 3 Fanbases dont really take Note of that and therefore limit themselves. After this more-general message, i wanna add: KZbinr Professor Dave just covered yet-another Hovind-like Science-Denier-Club: The Discovery Institute, while Telltale covered a looney-pastor who literally is openly planning to "flood the Office with his Man". Both KZbinrs added to each other without realizing. And very notrworthily: Telltale makes Arguments that not enough Atheists run for Office and we should seriously consider it, especially for small Positions of all Kinds.

It makes perfect sense. He has a niche that rewards him for what he says. The real consequence to him is quite minor and consists of people he doesn't care about (i.e. who don't give him money) calling him out. @@AtheistJr Indeed. Hovind is such a worshipper of Mammon (money) that he obstinatly refuses to pay taxes on his religious outfit. For someone who claims to wholeheartedly accept the inerrancy of Scripture, he certainly has a way of rejecting the parts which say: "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers", which passage goes on to say that 'this is why you pay taxes', and "Render unto Cæsar the things which are Cæsar's and unto God the things which are God's", the latter quotation credited to Christ, whom Hovind professes to serve. (Romans 13:1-7; Matthew 22:29) Even if one believes that there is such a thing as God, that in no way changes the fact that God has never printed money. Cæsar (meaning, of course, human governments) prints money. Consequently, money is one of "the things which are Cæsar's" to be 'rendered unto him', and that in the form of taxes. Even the United States Supreme Court, in an opinion written by Sandra Day O'Connor (herself regarded as a conservative) in a case involving Hovind's fellow televangelist Jimmy Swaggart during the late eighties, has said that religious outfits are not exempt from the payment of, at least, sales taxes. (Nevermind that the sales tax is one of the most regressive forms of taxation ever devised. Really, the High Court should have expanded the scope of its opinion from the sales taxes of individual states (specifically, in that case, California) to include taxation of any and all income accrued by religious outfits, on the local, state and Federal levels, thereby completely eliminating the tax-exempt status of religious outfits and clergymen, and, thus, nullifying the Johnson amendment for political statements, such as that swipe Hovind made in this video regarding President Biden.) That is simply one example of how Hovind is all about breaking the rules. Another example was mentioned by Emma in the second part of her previous video concerning the fact that Hovind, when suspended by KZbin, moved the ensuing episode of his Wednesday program to Powell's channel in an attempt at supension-evasion.

About 18 years ago I was in Pensacola, Florida visiting my in-laws. My sister-in-law was pregnant and said that she had heard that some dinosaur park was pretty good. They dropped me and my stepson off at this place while my wife and her sister went to a doctor appointment. So, we go in and look around, and some kid calls the few people into another room with, "OK everybody, the presentation is about to begin." At this point, I still didn't know what was going on. Then he started, "Every dinosaur book you read is full of misinformation. They all say 'millions and millions of years ago', but we know from the Bible that the Earth is just 6000 years old." I was thinking, "crap, what did Juli get me into!!!" I had no idea until that point of my life that some people don't accept the Earth is billions of years old. Anyway, it turns out we were at Kent Hovind's place in Pensacola before he went to prison. It was a really, really crappy day. My wife gets a kick out of it. She knew something was wrong when she and her sister pulled up and looked at our faces. She still laughs about it 18 years later.

Hi Emma. I found your channel through your Sci-Man Dan Video. I like your informed opinions. I used to be a Latter Day Saint, and have found that the majority of religious hardliners are very intolerant of the scientific community in general. (I at least had a head start where I grew up with a family who had book club membership, and studied a book on the then understood evolution and life style of dinosaurs among other things as well as the Solar System, back when Jupiter had only 12 moons or so we thought at the time). md will poo poo the idea that dinosaurs even existed, despite the fossil record. A great many number of the people who believe the Earth is flat and that gravity doesn't exist, like to treat the Bible as the only truth in the world. However if you look at mythologies around the world, you realise that a lot of the stories were built to rationalise the things that happened in their part of the world and were truth to them at the time, until other religions stepped in and took over normally through conquering nations and then forcing their views on others. Christianity has a bad track record on this, with the Inquisition targeting people who refuse to think their way and wiping them out. Likewise forcing religion on the peoples of the world during the various colonisation efforts. People with that mindset will never accept change even when proven, and will always twist the narrative to their worldview. Me, I'm still getting used to the fact that the majority of dinosaurs had feathers. Proof that as scientific understanding increases that change is accepted. Very enjoyable video, as was you MLM Body Shop video. Keep up the good work and don't let the ignoramuses grind you down.

Among his quotes: "Man is a Religious Animal. He is the only Religious Animal. ... The higher animals have no religion. And we are told that they are going to be left out in the Hereafter. I wonder why? It seems questionable taste." It's also ironic that he says "a majority of the population voted for Hitler," but then, "it was probably a fraudulent election like Biden." Which is it, Kent?? Did a majority of people vote for Hitler/Biden, or didn't they? Is he conceding Biden won the popular vote?

Kent cannot help himself from acting dishonestly. He is dishonest before he challenges people to debates. He is dishonest during the debate. He is dishonest after the debate about the debate. To even consider debating him shows that there is something he could be right about. Kent Hovind is so incorrect that, in the words of Wolfgang Pauli, he is "not even wrong."

Kent is a walking, somehow breathing, fallacy. His entire ideology is a fallacy. If you do not believe in God (A) you believe in Evolution (B), period. Someone needs to debate this punk and go with the impression you are a Neo-Manichaean. Watch him lose every non-existent argument he has instantly. Neos do not require a God for their belief and there exists documented occurences that support it. Doesn't matter if you believe in it, but the debate itself would emohasize his idiocy.

Thank you for responding to this manipulative, snake oil salesman. This is Hovind's modus operandi as Professor Dave found out. I love debunking Kent Hovind, using Christianity. 1) Pointing out how he calls upon users to go to HIS content to learn about God - instead of, per the Bible (and the consistent teachings of Christ), going to God. (this is Blasphemy, according to the Word of God). 2) Kent Hovind being proud of representing physical violence against individuals who disagree with him. (Wrath... hmm... isn't that one of those 7 deadly... things?) 3) Kent Hovind continually calling for praise from his peanut gallery. (Those who look to the approval of men, have no approval from God). 4) A MULTITUDE of bastardizations of the Bible or the Word of God to support himself (literally the #1 worst thing you can do, according to Christianity). So... yeah, he's bunk on every level.

It's not ridicule to say an ad hominem went too far. Ridicule: the subjection of someone or something to contemptuous and dismissive language or behavior. (Source, Google)

@@Bjornication Hovind may be the personification of an intellectual creep and being married to him seems to be no cup of tea, but he's not calling anyone "honey" to be creepy. It's to be condescending; even if in this context it's because she's younger and female. A huge contingent of the population in the American South, male and female, still call each other, esp strangers, "honey," in a friendly and, often, unthinking way. Once I got over the surprise at a complete stranger calling me "honey" or "sweetie," I found it quite endearing. Hovind isn't from the South, but he's been there long enough to pick up the lingo. I think hearing "creepiness" from Hovind for saying "honey" is projection due to bias or cultural unfamiliarity (Or because he's old? Ooooh, old people are creepy!). He's clearly co-opted the cultural lingo for his own nefarious purposes: belittling this particular opponent and getting under her skin. Unfortunately, he succeeded. Thorne pointed out that this was Hovind's schtick. He even succeeded in getting under AronRa's skin. I think the definition of ridicule you bring up fits my criticism of Thorne more than Hovind. Maybe it's harder to see when you don't care about the marginalized demo.

@@darkpatches If you're giving ground that "Hovind may be the personification of an intellectual creep" (if I understand you correctly), that he doesn't have a good track record with women, and that he meant to be condescending: are you saying that a creepy seeming person with a history of (alleged) abuse of women, who said something to be condescending to someone they were debating, didn't say something creepy, diminutive, and dismissive, because they live in the South?
