The part of my brain that tends to get stuck on small points too much is fascinated by his zombie apocalypse idea. Because the way he says it - and repeats it - he doesn't look for the woman to cover his back, he expects her to reload his magazines and pass them to him, while he's shooting. He has three guns, but his expectation is still that she assists him by doing the reproductive work of maintaining a supply of loaded magazines, instead of wanting her to be a good shot and pick up a gun herself.

As a Former US Marine, I will say that an a-gunner and a gunner is more efficient than two shooters. Especially once we get into the world of automatics, however that is beyond the scope here. We go into a combat situation pre loaded sure, if a fight decides to go on for an extremely prolonged period of time where we need to reload magazines, then it does become a situation where one person drops back and reloads magazines until the barrel needs to cool off, and then they switch, either who is doing what or rifles. as the a-gunner you are also responsible for directing fire and keeping a 360 field of view since the gunner is necessarily looking through a sight and has limited vision. I can see how this may seem like the other person is a shoe shiner or whatever to someone untrained in battlefield combat, it is not the case though. From my perspective, it is a statement of two people working in harmony to get something done.

Division of tasks is usually more efficient, and doing so situationally, in a well-trained unit... yeah, totally. That works on some basic premises, though: All members of a military unit have at least somewhat equivalent training, and at least as far as a-gunner/gunner is concerned - as you've basically said yourself - different team members can take each role or may even switch roles, depending on the situation. It's a tactical decision. And as you already wrote: It takes a fight over a prolonged period of time to even need battlefield reloading of magazines (plus a supply of ammo to put in). If you can/want to see it as a metaphor for "two people working in harmony to get something done" - great! Power to you. It's probably only understood that way by (former) military people, though, if even all of them. Furthermore, I kinda doubt he means it that way: He's not talking about prolonged combat, not about spotting, watching the other persons back - let alone maintaining a 360 field of view. And I doubt he'd agree for her to get equivalent training, or that he would reload magazines for her, if - for whatever reason - she was in a better position to be the gunner. From everything else he says, his vision is simple: He shoots, she reloads the magazines. On principle, because those are the roles. And if it's based on a fixed role, we have to ask if it's really two people working in harmony to get something done, or someone viewing another person as basically an assistance system to himself.

I would definitely fail the small favor test -- not because I have any objection to doing favors for a friend (I enjoy helping others out) but because he was phrasing it more as an order than a request. Just toss the ticket at her and say, "I'm swamped, do me this favor" is a hard no. I'm not a servant or an employee to be given orders, and for all he knows I may be swamped too. He wants a favor, ask for it without assuming my time is freely available for his use: "I'm swamped, can you do me this favor?", then give me the ticket if I say "yes". I've watched a couple of this guys videos a long time ago & I promise you, no matter how many of his "tests" you passed, he would absolutely not consider you a high quality female because you think for yourself & would not blindly follow & obey a man. Also, while you found his tests gender neutral, he did not. He would not run a little errand for his significant other if she asked him to pick up her dry cleaning because he would consider it effeminate and beneath him. If his significant other refused to go to one of his friends parties or an event he wanted to go to, it would not go over well because he's not being obeyed and worshipped. This was a relatively tame video for this guy. I watched one where he says not to date any women over 25. One where he encouraged men to go to other countries to find submissive wives. One where he basically calls women with tattoos sluts & low quality women. Don't dive any deeper into his videos, trust me.

100% agree. I used to watch is content about 2 years ago and I always got nauseous from what I heard. It was great to learn about this group of men who preach about going their own way, while being soooo concerned about women (aka chicks and females hahaha). I'm a male who's female partner is currently in medical school and is perfectly fine with me becoming a stay at home dad should we have kids. It's pretty rare to find a woman (or person for that matter) who doesn't have their own career going in my generation (same age as Emma) in the US because it's literally the only way you can make ends meet. So not sure where all these women are jumping from partner to partner for a living. In my experience you're about as likely to find a man "dating up" in terms of socio-economic status as women these days. Ironic as well that the same sorts of people complaining about the supposed economic dependence of women are also the most vocally opposed to their entry into the workforce.

I like the fact that she isn't super judgemental. I'm a judgemental dude who's taking steps to be less judgmental, and one of the first steps is to notice when you have a judgemental thought (don't judge yourself for it, just notice). The beautiful thing about that is that you start to also notice when other people do it, and I started realizing that a good 90% of the videos I watch are judgemental (which, watching/listening to videos is something I do from the morning till I sleep everyday). It's wonderful to watch a video and not hear someone projecting in every other sentence (which I'm purposely judging another KZbinr in my mind rn for doing lol), or judging the people in the video for everything. It was super sweet to see a video where someone respectfully disagreed with someone else, whilst also giving credit where credit is due. It sets a fantastic example for people everywhere of all ages. The advice to not get involved with a partner who has parental issues is not about such a person not deserving love but an acknowledgment that a relationship with a person who has baggage is going to be more fraught than a relationship with a person who doesn't. I would say it's no different than telling young ship captains not to take their boats out in stormy waters; it doesn't mean that the ship will necessarily veer off course or capsize in the storm, but that it is harder to navigate through the storm and a greener captain should probably not take the risk if a calmer day is just on the horizon.

I agree to some extent. Relationships involve compromise and its important to keep an open mind toward trying new things, even if they don't sound like something you'll enjoy. Who knows, it might surprise you. To be honest though, I wouldn't want to spend a bunch of money and/or time doing something I already know I don't like and will only bore me. I also wouldn't want my partner to do it. If they don't like something, I want them to tell me. I want us both to have fun and I can always do that thing with someone else or by myself. The person saying no, should understand if the other one breaks the date because of the timing of the event. If I want to go to something special and this is the only weekend it's going on. If my partner doesn't want to go, I'm going to go and we can do something maybe next week. They should have the right to do the same.

Because that is all men have. Through most of time the legacy of a woman has been her children, for a man it is his place in society. This is still true today. Go to a party (not an office party), but like a parent-school gathering. Women (mothers) introduce and define themselves in terms of their children, especially when talking to other women. But not men. Men introduce and define themselves in terms of their careers, the company they work for. If they are retired (as I am) it is what one use to do. This is how men form the social norms for the conversation. Two highly educated men will find out about where they went to college, grad school. A highly educated man and a non-educated man, the conversation will more likely be popular sport.

Honestly, with the door unlocking bit...I had a guy do that to me on a date, but tested me concerning straws in fast food places. He would take a girl inside a fast food place to eat and grab the food to carry it to the table. He would ask the girl if she wouldn't mind getting the drinks. If she brings back straws and ketchup for both people, they earn some early respect. I made the mistake of getting drinks and packets of salt and ketchup, but I only got a straw for me ( this is in 2002 before folks got really angry about straws impact on wildlife). He didn't know I had dated a man before him that got his manhood insulted when I brought him a straw ( that guy thought only women should use straws. REAL men drink straight from the cup). So moral to story people have a variety of reasons for having specific actions, and you shouldn't judge folks until you know why they do things.

I don't know how many newer ones there are but generally the consensus is that women tend to prefer face to face intimate friendships with more contact whereas men prefer physical friendships where they can do activities and their friendships require less maintenance. My biggest concern with this guy is that he basically is discounting anyone with a disability or long term health condition. I met my wife about 15 years ago, and she is the most perfect person for me - our interests and weirdness matches perfectly. But had I used his "tests" she would have failed most, because she is significantly disabled. For that matter, I probably would have failed a while chunk of them because i was in a pretty bad place at the time. While I agree that some of the things he said may be helpful, I do think that his generalisations and assumptions are unhealthy at best. The whole narrative here seems to ignore that we are all broken people and that sometimes we can find perfection in another person despite our imperfections. What is most important is to spend time getting to know the other person, understand them, build trust. And totally, if they want to share something they enjoy with you, like a museum, give it a go and learn why it makes them happy.

I’m curious to know as to what guys like this do on dates. The whole point to dating is to see if you have common interests with someone. No test required. One guy gets hurt, becomes defensive, then immediately links that pain to a stereotype he's heard before about women, but used to ignore, and then generalizes it to an entire gender. He then moves to 'protect' other men from experiencing that pain by 'warning' them about those stereotypes, and using his situation as evidence of that stereotype's accuracy. I think the fact that they feel like they are protecting other men is why they don't see this as inherently toxic, and that makes it so much easier to perpetuate the cycle.

Consider that if you are honest pre-date about financial standing, this won't become an issue (or if it does, you're are not the one failing the test 😉) because they will be aware that you simply don't have it, and thus will not be likely to ask. As for the "casual mention of valet," this doesn't necessarily speak to a superiority complex. It easily could, yes... or it could mean that he is the type to save up for an occasional splurge date. About the coffee, I really think he *was* trying to emphasize asking for the cheapest possible cup as the smallest possible gesture, but I was slightly put out by the usage of coffee as a tool for stereotyping someone, as experience has taught me that there are *zero* exterior indicators of how (or if) a person will drink coffee. Personally, I'm a straightforward medium black type, my grandmother and auntie like theirs ALL THE WAY black, my mother likes a dash of milk and no sweetener, my brother likes a dash of milk and lots of sugar, my sister-in-law doesn't drink coffee and when anyone brings us an order "blind", none of us get the right cup. The only places I know of in my part of Canada that offer valet service are very high-end restaurants (like a hundred or two per meal type) or very high-end malls that are expecting $500 ish shopping sprees. I guess hotels might as well, but I guess I wouldn't know. I feel comfortable standing by my comment on his superiority complex. He radiates it. OH, the zombie apocalypse test! Of course, because that's going to happen. I live in the Pacific Northwest where the most likely disaster scenario is a massive offshore earthquake (plus tsunami if you're on the coast), which leads to infrastructure breakdown - roads/bridges broken or blocked, no running water, gas/electricity feeds cut, and probably phone and internet connections gone. My wife and I have our plan for that scenario, how we fetch the kids from school if necessary etc. It doesn't require loading guns, but it would include checking on our neighbors.
