A scoring knife with a sharp tungsten tip is the go. Score and snap. Done. No splintering, or tear outs.

Hey there! So I’m about to cut several huge sheets of Formica and I’m nervous- so you said a Scoring Knife (tungsten tip) is the way to go. So do I just make my line and then score it, and then snap it? Are there any other little details I should know before I try this?

Thanks for the video. I removed the 4” by 1” backsplash just to find out the Formica stopped 1 inch from the wall. It wasn’t installed under the backsplash. So now I need to cut down a 1” strip and patch along the wall.

Formica chipped a little using circular saw. Had enough to be trimmed....luckily. Saw another vid where a guy cut with the laminate on drywall cutting into the drywall and it looked OK.

You can also use Expo vis-a-vis transparency markers... they clean-up with water... I'm also thinking that cutting the material with the wrong-side-up might give you a cleaner cut with the circular saw. Thanks for the video!

If you are going to assume that black sharpie can be removed by paint thinner, you should test this first. Black sharpie didn't wipe off of my vinyl sheet with paint thinner or with naptha (my go-to solvent). Acetone, luckily, did the job. But acetone can also ruin some plastics by creating a haze in the finish. Test your solvent first before relying on it to save yourself from a stray line.

The best Sharpie ink solvent is rubbing alcohol. Works every time and is closest to the actual solvent used in the markers.

Didn’t you stop to think that your “technique” might produce tearing? Have you done this before? Masking tape on the cut line and a splinter guard on your jigsaw might help. You should probably mention that the blade should have fine teeth. You should probably research how to do things correctly before you release KZbin videos.
