Random note about shotgun sizes for those who care. The "gauge" refers to what fraction of a pound of a lead ball will fit in the barrel, so a 10 gauge shotgun has a bore diameter that will fit a 1/10th pound lead ball. That's why shotguns get bigger the smaller the number.

Scott needs to get himself an industrial shotgun: eight or four gauge, pedestal-mounted, used for blasting slag out of industrial furnaces with a ton of different slug and buckshot loads. I would love to see what eight pellets of .425 zinc buckshot would do to a can of gravy. On second thought, make it a stack of cans of gravy.

I found one of those 8 gauge shotgun slugs at a gun show, its huge next to a .410 and even a 12 gauge shell. Its unfired and looks new. The guy had about 8 of them and I tried to buy the rest from the guy later on but he decided to keep the rest. :-( I was looking for an 8 gauge shotgun, but no luck. Later he told me it was used to clean out the inside of giant kilns that melt steel. Its shot and round and round the slug goes cleaning off the carbon and crud from the inside of the kiln. There's video's of it on youtube.

Was a fun demo. My grandpa had a double-barrel 10-guage at his orange ranch back in the 1950s. Kept the hawks FAR away from his free range chickens. Grandpa would have preferred a 12 guage, but the family name was Behrmann, he mentioned that our ancestors use it for bear hunting in Germany (1800s). (Most family names originated with a trade, i.e. Cooper, Green, Smith, etc). Makes sense, as it's too big for regular game. He shot a BIG crow one time, and it was hamburger. My uncle said, NEVER fire both barrels at the same time. (I think he tried it once and almost busted his shoulder).

The real advantage of a 10 g. comes when you use SMALLER shot. Those single shot tens were usually referred to as "goose guns". Loaded with #2 birdshot or BB (.17") shot, a single shot at 30 to 40 yards could devastate a flock of ducks or geese, often reaping multiple birds.

My single 10s weigh in at around 7-8 1/2 lbs so right there recoil is more . Hope this helps out .

@@outbackcountry512 i actually shot mine today. I bought the new stocked Browning BPS model for 2020 and added some weight in the buttock for recoil and just as much to balance the gun so it balances where it should now and weighs 9 pounds now(according to the bathroom scale anyways 😄😄)and I absolutely love this thing!!!! Will NEVER use 12 gauge for geese again!! My patters at 50-60 yards are incredible, the recoil is less, and I know people complain about cost of ammo but its not that much more so I can honestly say ill NEVER part from my BPS!!

@@megan6228 I have several BPS , Models from 70s to 2000s have them in 28 gauge , 410 ,20 12s and 10 , well built , well made , yrs expensive compared to other pump guns , but you get quality , all steel /wood or real synthetic not this milk jug recycled crap for stocks . I have not tried out the new 2020 models but I hear they are just as good as the older ones . As for cost of ammo , as you stated the range makes up and less shots . I hunt salt water marshes , geese up here in Atlantic Canada can reach almost 30 + lbs we have some big geese up this way and the 10 gauges really put a snack on them , 40-60 here out and break wings , snap me is like nothing , in my almost 40 yrs water fowling have yet to have a 12 gauge do that unless it was back in the days b4 steel shot mandatory we shot only #4 buckshot 3 inch magnums for geese , at 25-40 yrs it crumpled them dead . As for buying a BPS smart and wise choice one of mine has over 10,000 rounds thru it , b4 I swapped out for new barrel (was just my choice doing so ) still cycles and shoots as good as day one . I hope you get many yrs outta it and lots of memories taking down those big geese , I've used my 10 s on duck hunts 12-15 shots and limited out alot of times , so cost means nothing compared to a box and half at times for ducks of 12 gauge . Good luck in the fields and marshes , happy to hear from fellow hunters in positive way. Edit : I also use extended chokes in all my shotguns , Kicks Highflyer are excellent and do just good job as the more expensive pattern master , as well there another company from Texas who will send me chokes to Canada , it's called Wind walkers, check out their chokes for 10 gauge , I've patterned out to 80 yrds with my Terror Choke tubes . But they are for use with #2 Steel , geese fold like a wet towel

I can imagine Scott’s wife coming out to the range asking him if he knows where the mayo and gravy went as it’s raining mayo and gravy she asks him what he’s doing and without skipping a beat he replies “science experiment” lol.

@jaredmccutcheon54964 жыл бұрын
@steve jones I don't now what it is really, it kind of tastes like mayonnaise that someone dumped a bunch of sugar and ranch dressing in, lol, it's disgusting. People use it like mayo. I haven't eaten it since I was a kid but I've never forgotten how nasty it was ,lol.

I have an H&R topper 10 gauge with a 36 inch full choke barrel, had it since I was a teenager...shot at least 1,000 rounds through it, mostly number 2, 3 1/2 inch magnum loads...it's an awesome gun. I've nailed a duck at 80 yards flying away from me, spun him like a top. I've hit a 55 gallon drum at 75 yards and knocked it over with number 2 shot. It will reach way out there and get the job done!
