Super Rugby has gone down hill imho. The comp lost dynamism when it was dominated by NZ and Aus comp is boring to watch. Now they lost Saffas it's even more dull. There were a lot more in the crowds on the same day at the same stadium for Warriors than Hurricanes vs Pacifica Moana and the Canes dished out a caning in one-sided game whereas Warriors vs Bulldogs was a gripping game. Just saying, NLR is better quality imho. 15 Years ago Super Rugby was exciting but whenever the Aus teams still posed any quality.

@@danielkelly4487 largely because rugby’s strength is also its biggest weakness in Oz. As it is global it means games are often on at stupid o’clock. Super Rugby had become unwieldy with too many South African games. Tries per game in SR was around 7 vs. 8 in NRL so it wasn’t an entertainment thing. Now that Super Rugby has been reformed it can focus on more time friendly slots and rebuild interest. It will be challenging but the Lions Tour and RWC will give a huge boost to interest and finances.

Wish there was a representative on the panel that could give a rugby perspective. I love rugby league but to act like he has left the best thing ever is a bit of a farce. The response from the ARU chairman was 100% correct. 1. Kent mentioned the bore of the game in the Northern Hemisphere which clearly shows he is out of touch because at the moment they are leading the charge with the expansive and entertaining rugby we want to see. 2. The international game is SO FAR ahead of rugby league even a blind man could see that. 3. The ceiling for potential money for rugby players especially star players is through the roof compared to rugby league. Overseas clubs have the money and location attraction to offer more opportunities to players post their super rugby careers/international. Location one is very important too because the super league clubs aren't exactly must see/live locations either. To that point, you have NRL and then Super League. Done. That's all your gonna get out of your career. 4. Rugby league is definitely one my favorite games to play and watch but if we look at the actual statistics when considering the world - ITS DAY AND NIGHT difference between rugby and league. Rugby is certainly a world-wide sport and you just can't say that for league. 5. Longevity. You'll be able to make a decent career out of rugby over league any day. Plenty of opportunities are there for talented individuals even at an old age around the world. 6. Seeing the World. You actually will get to ply your trade in the greatest places and in the best arenas the world has to offer. ----------------------------- Btw, no person in their right mind would turn down 1.6 million a SEASON lol so do your thing Sua'li'i. Looking forward to seeing how you do in rugby, enjoy the payrise.

I used to go to every QLD Reds game as a kid, now half the super rugby teams dont exist anymore. Instead you have racist no white people teams that are complete financial drains on the sport and only serve to get their asses kicked every single weekend. @@kingq4113 good thing that the wallabies don't just play in Australia. It's a dying sport because we haven't been successful for 20 years, the panellists are either being disingenuous for the sake of clicks or are genuinely have too much red mist in their head to see the situation more fairly. They talk about the money better spent on their grassroots - the last 20 years has shown that our lack of success has dried up grass roots funds. Eddie Jones and Suaalii are not marketing grabs, they're ambitious decisions to make a deep world cup run, and consequently raise the profile of the game and draw more interest. Considering the growing CTE problem that NRL zealots prefer to hide from with their head in the sand, rugby has an opportunity to sway the next generation towards union as a relatively safer game to play, as it doesn't feature nearly as many dangerous collisions that rattle the head.

@@nichobee Mate Rugby use to have nearly as many players as League, now Aussie rules has more participants in NSW and QLD then Rugby. The drop in Rugby participation since 2001 is alarming, and signing Sualii and a couple of other Leaguies isn't going to change the fact that the Wallabies can't produce forwards good enough to go with the top teams. This 5 mill they are chucking at Sualii would be better spent trying to produce some decent forwards, or at least stopping them from going to League at schoolboy level.

@davidtaliai996 Жыл бұрын
Too many rules and stoppages in rugby its almost on par with the NFL with the amount of stops in play. Lets face it in rugby they play for penalties because its almost a guaranteed 3 points, you can take a smoko when the ref blows the whistle, scrum reset and go for a walk in teh park walking to teh lineout and the scores blow out because the defence in rugby is shocking. A good game of flowing rugby is nice to watch but nothing compares to the arm wrestle of the NRL.
@wilhelm7222
@wilhelm7222 Жыл бұрын
@@davidtaliai996 you're not wrong, but you are not quite right either. As a general rule, the idea of playing for penalties and the obsession with stoppages in rugby is accurate, but in super rugby already laws have been put in place to prevent this, leading to a season already with far more ball in play and running rugby, this laws will probably be adopted internationally after the world cup, seeing as though they have been very effective. Defence being shocking in union is a little much mate, super rugby has a tendency to slip up in this area, but international comps and most clubs around the world have defence of a better standard than league. something that everyone seems to forget is that they are different sports with different styles and different rules.

Jeez Kenty... clearly he is biased towards disliking rugby union . So many inaccuracies in what he is saying . Eg. He will hardly touch the ball. Mate a union full back touches the ball just as much as a league full back and so do the wingers. Also the game has definitely sped up recently even in the northern hemisphere and the games have been super exciting in the 6 nations. Tbh rugby is far more expansive than rugby league on attack with the standard block plays really making the league attack look "same same"This is only the start . Union is getting private equity in australia and with their centralised systems, wallabies are going to earn good coin and it will be an attractive option for many nrl players who came from a union background.

OK disclaimer before I rant, I adore RL and the NRL....now for some hard truths Mr Kent. As a European I can tell you it is hilarious listening to these Aussies on occasion, Australia is a like a fish bowl sometimes. "Rugby is a dead sport", if you were outside Aus you would all know how fatuous and close-minded a statement like that is. RL has been green with envy about RU for decades (even though imo it is a better product), and it's clear to see why. RU has an international game which DWARFS anything RL can offer. Moreover, there are fully-professional clubs teams in...wait for it..15 COUNTRIES. England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France, Italy, Romania, Georgia, USA, Canada, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, South African and Japan. I might even be missing a few. When a sport has a professional global reach like this, a RL commentator is in no position whatsoever to be throwing mud like this. RL has 2 professional leagues (and Super League is not great tbh) and a laughable international game because of this. I adore RL and watch it every week, but Kent's comments are absurd and demonstrably false. RU may well be struggling in Australia, but it has a market reach, income and global appeal which RL would kill for. So, respectfully, Mr Kent, as a fellow RL fanatic, you're a jealous SOB who talks a bunch of BS.
