I kind of hope the way the newer planets are implemented is that you don't initially know they exist, and the placement of orbital long-range observation satellites are required to discover the contents of the other star systems. I can not contain my excitement for this game. Seriously I need this in my life so badly. Watching this video made me realize a few things. One of my favorite mods from KSP1 is the Real Solar System mod, but it was infamous for always breaking after updates. But now with vanilla addition of more exo-solar systems, it probably shouldn't be that difficult to implement. Hell, they might have already done so as an easter egg, vanilla RSS. One of the systems you can visit is our solar system! Sun, Earth, Moon, Jupiter, everything. If not based on what we've heard about mod tools Kopernicus looks built in now. I think a neat way to go about modelling our Solar System in KSP2, would be to place in millions of years ago. Where the continents are roughly the same shape but just different enough that you can allow procedural generation to handle the surface features and textures for all the planets. Of course some people would want to have a modern solar system with real life ground textures and I want that too! But it is understandably a lot more work and limited in functionality compared to what you would get from vanilla procedural planets.
@thedarkcorrupter3 жыл бұрын
Kinda sounds like they already did that with earth, they took the info of what we know about earth during the late heavy bombardment and put it in game, even with a ring system that will turn into a moon. They also showed a ringed gas giant based off of saturn in the same system so good chance they simply made our solar system from billions of years ago as this in game solar system you can visit
@SpaceNavy903 жыл бұрын
@@thedarkcorrupter While that planetary system is very interesting, it isn't what I'm talking about here. I am referring to a NEAR 1-to-1 replica of our real life solar system. I say near to because the technical and artistic challenges of trying replicate each planetary body is extremely difficult because you have to match current elevation data and create extremely high resolution surface textures. In my example above, placing the Earth and other planets a few million years back would mean that they look almost identical to what they are today in almost every way except the surface details would be changed just enough that you could get away with letting the procedural generation creation method take care of the heavy lifting.

3:08 having variety, and a reason to visit celestial bodies other that the satisfaction of having been there, that's all cool and all. The idea of grounding the geological history of the planets even more in real science is absolutely neat. But at the same time, nobody visit Dres because the planet is unremarkable, and I kind of think it's a good thing. In space, sure there's absolute wonders, but I feel there's also loads of very plain useless rocks with nothing remarquable about them. Having something unremarkable inside a range of remarquables stuff is also remarkable. Having an odd one out would be part of this variety But hey, that's just a random dude opinion on the internet. And I can understand nobody would dedicate dev time and effort for a piece of gameplay the player won't engage with. Either way, I'm very hyped! KSP was one of the few games I dreamt about before even buying it. The game helped me grow in different aspects, it's a gaming experience that will stick to me for all my life! @jameshughes30143 жыл бұрын
@@alexsiemers7898 I'd love it if this game released the way ksp1 did, but it's not following that path. Ksp1 was basically just a collection of bugs held together by a vague concept when people first got it 😁, and it was awesome. This one is more big studio, they want to release a full working game, which is good. At this point, beta would be ok, alpha would be ok.. But pre alpha means that even after all this time, they haven't gotten to the part where it works well enough to test in house - it's not feature complete yet. It sounds like you know coding, so you know that every feature you add increases complexity and bug fixing time exponentially. Once the code base gets big enough it becomes unwieldy. It'd be something of a miracle to go from that state to release in less than a year and a half. I'm hoping all those video sources are just old, but Im guessing that if it is really still pre-alpha y'all should be prepared to wait two more years, at least. Right now, my best hope is that they'll release an early access version when it goes beta

I didn't know what space travel entailed until I played KSP1. I thought it worked like in every science fiction, you aim your ship where you want to go and you fly over there, like you would with an airplane. Then you realize all these physics laws that come into play, and that you never truly stand still in space, you're always moving toward something. Gain enough momentum, and you can achieve a stable orbit, increase it much further to escape orbit and potentially catch the orbit of a different celestial body. As great as KSP is as a game, it's even more amazing at teaching people about how space really works.

“Never visit Dres” what is the core issue with KSP one. Because it wasn’t just Dres. Yes the planets do require some detail like more scattered and mountain ranges. But these are definitely to be expected after 10 years in the natural progression of graphical enhancements. In the thought being put into them is remarkable. But what do I do when I get there? Other than landing what is there to do? To have better graphics and a more detailed landscape is expected of the second installment and of the time spent on it. What is of curiosity is the mechanics of the game. At this point it either you’re saving everything for a Big launch reveal extravaganza, or there is nothing to reveal. Look around at your industry and please quickly realize most other companies restrain from giving details only to ensure their pre-orders. So when you do it, it looks no different. Give me something to want because mods have already given me more scatter and more detailed planets. I just hope that this game will also serve me well for 10 more years.

What is there that you'd want? ISRU? As far as I understand, there's a lot of science being put into the creation of these bodies that will be up to the players to explore. More than just 'land. EVA report. Sample. Flag. Leave.', there'll be a story of development for each body that would be entirely up to players to explore, theorize and learn about on their own.
@christophertarantola72383 жыл бұрын
Also, my understanding there is a whole new progression pipeline where you'll be able to create and build colonies on other planets, and they will work somewhat autonomously for restock/etc. such that you can build out, expand, and create a whole economy to boost your ability to go interstellar. I think this is at the heart of what they thought they could do better. This specific video was simply focused on the plantetary bodies.
