In 2012 I got my rudimentary rocket to the mun by pointing it in the mun's general direction as it rose on the horizon and firing the engine until it intercepted. It took me a year to land a living Kerbal on the moon - they didn't make it back, but it was the most satisfying gaming experience in my life! In KSP 1 early access/beta, the devs didn't even tell anyone you could achieve orbit. A little-known astrophysicist named Scott Manley DISCOVERED that. It was so satisfying because the game held so many mysteries out of reach, and you needed to learn so much to reveal them. It almost felt like you were personally reliving the trial, error, and discovery of real-life space exploration. So that's my feedback - I 100% agree with what you said in this video, that new players shouldn't HAVE to deal with that steep a learning curve, but if they WANT to, it should be an option/game mode.

@@Gentleman...Driver Just because it's understandable doesn't mean it shouldn't be concerning, to me this many delays and then an Early Access release seems indicative of bad time management, something which seems to plague nearly every game dev and large publisher these days. There were only four things that were going to be major substantive additions to KSP1 to my mind, more customization (procedural parts), engine optimization (better performance for complex builds), colonization and interstellar travel. Of those things only one of them is really obvious and evident, and that's procedural parts. Graphical improvements are a sidegrade thing, not necessary or relevant to core gameplay, and let's be frank, graphical upgrades can and are touted in deceptive marketing all the time.

@@youtubeisapublisher6407 Dont get me wrong, I am also very sceptical, and I am not joining the hype train. I wont buy it before I havent seen at least some gaming content from a few youtubers. Delays are nowadays that common because covid happened. It pushed a lot of projects back and fucked with budgets. Not only was it a challenge to have everybody working from home, but also a lot of publishers have lost money, and so now they are pushing the studios. Its not surprising to me. In fact I wondered how long they dragged this one out. Because the first announcement was like "We release in one year". And that sounded very optimistic to me.

Well, it won't even have a tech tree when you first buy it, despite costing $50. The people who own KSP now are Take-Two, the same company that owns GTA. Yet they have the gall to tug on the nostalgia strings in promotions while charging a full-game price for "early access" (with a price increase to come), that doesn't even have the features of KSP 1, let alone the new stuff that keeps KSP2 from being pointless. KSP was developed by a SMALL studio, early builds were FREE, and when they started charging they only asked for $7. THAT Is what the point of early-access is; smaller studios who might not otherwise get funding, and often as an incentive you get a notably lower price. Early access is NOT for the eighth-largest game company in the world charging full-game price for an incomplete game.
@elwen9477 Жыл бұрын
@@IstasPumaNevada KSP 1 was in early access too and became my favourite game of all times, i'll give them the benefit of the doubt and pay those 50 bucks. They seem so very passionate about the game (the devs i mean) you should at least trust in this community a bit :) And yeah now tis take two that owns the IP *shrugs* who cares? it could be atari i wouldn't give a damn f***. You glorious, beautiful Nerds! I love you all! How's that for a palm on your shoulder? I was there before KSP1 had orbits, and I'm glad to _still_ be here now! I played the _very first_ public release! My oldest kid was _five_ when KSP came out, and now she's old enough to get her driving learner's permit! I can't wait to share this with them! They think of KSP as a funny (old) game that Dad (and NASA employees) play, and I taught them how orbital dynamics (among other things) work with it. Kerbals have been a major part of my life, up there with such games as Minecraft and Factorio. It kindled my interest in the Space Program, and made me an absolute addict to the entire genre. I watched the incredible Scott Manley (who I noticed has weighed in, in the comments!) and The Everyday Astronaut, Tim Dodd, play, though better than I. I honestly can't wait to build my own versions of Starship and Superheavy, pack them full of "volunteer" Kerbals and launch them to the distant stars, with my Daughters by my side! IMHO, the only new thing that KSP2 needed was Multiplayer, but you are bringing us SO much more! We already have plans to buy 4 copies. We're going to drag Momma into the chaos, kicking, screaming and probably RUDing! A word of warning, though. Just as we often forget to say when we _like_ something, Developers often forget that the Squeaky Wheel does *not* speak for the entire community! Please don't *over*simplify what was a beautifully complex experience to cater to the lowest common denominator!
@kerbodynamicx4722 жыл бұрын
I doubt KSP2 will be oversimplified, but rather, much more complexed than KSP1. Space is hard, and KSP1 is pretty much bare bones for an aerospace sim. KSP is known as a hardcore rocket sim, that occasionally belongs to the space horror genre. KSP have a very loyal fanbase, me included, it shaped part of my identity as a wannabe aerospace engineer. It made me realise that even if space is hard, the stars are within our reach if we are determined to reach them.

My friend and I have been using the Luna Multiplayer mod, but things like not being able to dock with both players in their respective crafts without exploding - and a few other nuances through the understandable limitations of KSP1. Being able to fly in atmosphere and connect two aircraft together mid flight, and being able to do a SpaceX Falcon 9 style launch and boostback without losing the other part of the ship. Essentially, more complicated physics and multilayered mechanics. My bar was set pretty high with Outer Wilds.

I would like to suggest a simple feature that may help a subset of players psychologically: Whenever I saw in the Space Center that I was in "year 20" since when I started, just because I went to Duna a few times, it got me depressed. Indeed this is a realistic representation on how things work in real life but because of this simple reminder on how much time it weighs globally to go to Duna a few times and the fact that it piles up and just sticks there, constantly reminding you of the cost time-wise to explore the outer planetary system more than once, it just discouraged me to explore further. This is a purely cosmetic feature but I think there must be a way to either not display at all that timer or to reset it (manually or automatically like e.g.: every year to be reset to 0) or something so it doesn't stick there in your face :)

This is one of the most exciting 'dev diary' videos i've ever seen. super well-edited... I mean, it helps that KSP2 looks so damn good. Great Work, everyone!

I’m so hyped up for this. I let KSP go a while back due to school and work. But when this drops, I’m so far back in that I’ll be stealing Jeb’s snacks.

I love that when chris told the interviewers his username they were like “oh”. I imagine they where extremely shocked:)

Looks amazing and I can’t wait for early access, though I think your runway numbers may be wrong at 4:51. Don’t know if anyone else picked it up? The nose of the aircraft is pointing West, so the numbers (showing direction of landing) should be 09L and 09R.

I think the "something more?" involves a landing autopilot. at 13:30 you can see it gimble it's engine all on it's own! If so I'm really excited.

Possibly their own version/implementation of MechJeb? I've seen other commenters already saying it feels like the devs have been making efforts to integrate a lot of the more popular mods from KSP1.

I am hoping for a middle ground between kOS and mechjeb. For beginners, full autopilot. For sim nerds, the ability to write custom autopilot scripts would be awesome.

You should add placeable cameras that you can switch to in flight
