They couldn't do that in KSP 1 because the entire game would have to be rewritten in a new physics engine environment to solve the bug. @@mariasirona1622 Technically, no. Practically speaking, yes. You have to build absolutely massive assemblies that barely fit into the VAB. You have to painstakingly nurse them into a stable low orbit all the while the Kraken is trying tear your craft apart at any point that wasn't strutted. (Several launches failed just because I was fighting probe cores that I forgot to put into hibernation, or reaction wheels that were off axis to each other causing off-axis roll oscillations). Chances are once you get into orbit, you've either burned your fuel up, or you've merely lofted an unfueled interstellar assembly to save weight, which means subsequent launches of fuel are needed. If you're clever, you design a ship using docking ports for orbital assembly and launch each sub assembly on its own, then do multiple EVAs to add struts (which requires a mod) to make the assembled craft stable. It's an arduous process that only advanced players are likely to be successful at. And no matter your skill... the Kraken is always lurking. I've lost a dozen Kerbals are random intervals just to build a single colony on Laythe with a science station and fuel plant merely to (1) provide fuel for exploring the Jooliansystem and (2) to say that I did it. That's not fun. That's sadomasochism. And while us hardcore players are down for it, we want others to feel comfortable getting into this game. So... yeah. Torchships are basically the speedboats of interplanetary flight. Rather than a specific engine or technology, it refers to any engine capable of a sustained 1G burn for the entire voyage. Because of the sheer amount of power required to be expended, and the distances involved, the only engines at least theoretically plausible for this are some variety of fusion or mass-conversion engine, hence "Fusion Torch". Also, because the backwash of the drive, regardless of technology, would be sufficiently energetic to be a fairly substantial war crime if anything inhabited passes through it.

Perhaps in different variants, space, surface and suborbital flight. I know this would be a lot of work but I can't overstate how much that would mean to me. I would probably visit every place in the galaxy just to hear all of the soundtrack. Just think about how it would feel, you enter a planet's sphere of influence and are greeted by its personal theme. Perhaps it gets louder and more epic when you approach the planet, and when you initiate the landing procedure it gets intense. Seriously, I think that would have immense potential.

@HAWK_61552 жыл бұрын
This. I think the only games that have even come *close* to what KSP is trying to achieve are Elite: Dangerous, No Man's Sky, and Megaton Rainfall. Space Engine also has similar scale, but isn't really a "game" per se. Elite and NMS have spaceflight simulation, landable planets, and interstellar travel, but are far-future and not fully physics simmed. You also have to "jump" between stars. Megaton rainfall nails scale and traversal, because you can seamlessly leave the Milky Way and fly straight to a neighboring galaxy, into a star cluster, and set foot on a planet orbiting a star in that cluster; or just hover in deep space and look at all the galaxies around you. But you're also not in a spaceship; you're an omnipotent being capable of superluminal movement. If KSP 2 pulls this off, it will be a MASSIVE technical achievement, and could have some deep reaching effects on the genres as you said.

I have never been so excited for a single game in my entire life. I'm not over exadurating. I have spent over 3000hrs in KSP 1 and I have been playing this game since I was 13. That was back in 2015. Kerbal Space Program has done something that in my opinion no other game was able to do as well. Teaching people science and bringing the topic closer to millions of people worldwide. The first game deserves all the praise it gets and even if it wont come out this year, I am willing to wait that long just if it means that the end product will be as good as it can be. So from the bottom of my heart thank you for making ksp 2 and even if waiting for this game drives me nuts...take your time and make it right, we can wait.

Not weird at all. People think of video games as entertainment and yes, they are. But what games are actually is digital representations of worlds, characters and stories. And if crafted in a specific way, you can turn a game into a simulation of something real with real physics. Air Force pilots train in simulators all the time. And yes, tomorrow's astronauts will play KSP today. The game is a fantastic platform to learn the basics of space flight and physics and will expose people to not only the challenges of space exploration but the joy of it too. Humans are curious by nature and since the beginning of time, we have birthed explorers starting from Ug wondering what was beyond that river to Colombus wondering was across the ocean and hopefully within my lifetime, an unnamed explorer will wonder what is in the next solar system.

Even with ion engines, you should still be looking at something around 0.04TWR ideally (0.02 is as low as I'll ever go), on any stage. Returns from the sheer efficiency of ion engines isn't linear. This is true of every engines type and sizes, but it's most apparent with ion engines. Ideally, you should upscale either with the number of engines, their sizes (tweakscale might help, or you could duplicate their files and/or make a duplicate via MM patch), or by introducing more exotic variants via mods. I'm a big fan of Nertea's _Near Future_ mods for a good reason. Considering the man was brought into the fold to work on KSP2, I consider his KSP1 NF mods to effectively be vanilla.

They will have different resources and stuff. There is more logistics in this game because there is colonization

To be honest I think even a different sound track would be reward enough, I know how it felt to land on the nun for the first time. Reaching another System … man mind blown 🤯

Part of the reward will be the incredible view from the surface, which is one reason why I keep traveling to laythe...

I’d like to play through the whole developement process from small sounding rockets, all the way to interstellar travell. It would be amazing!

You likely will as that's how they've designed stuff.

No news about ksp2 for like 3 month and finally something YAAAYY can't wait
@adamkerman4752 жыл бұрын
I like to think that the less time they spend talking to the community about it the more time they spend making the game. Keeps me happy even without news.

it means that time passes. Old age is not a disease or fatigue is the passing of time. You see it older, it's been a while.

Nate looks like he hasn't left the programming studio in 5 months. I think this game is gonna be hella good.

I just hope that one of those stars is our sun :D No need to install RSS -> Our solar system is part of the game out of the box. And it would be hilarious for Kerbals to discover Earth
@VORASTRA2 жыл бұрын
i think you still need to mod the game to START in solar system and make initial progression through it.

I hope so, too!

One of the planets they mentioned is like an early version of earth, with water oceans, but plenty of craters and an unbreathable atmosphere. Imagine if the rest of the system was like a young version of our solar system.

So glad you included the take at the end of the kraken segment with the “box delivery interruption.” I love seeing the fun culture of game studios behind the scenes and it looks like you guys have a blast!

Oh man, i am so hyped for this game. Please, please, please take your time and release it in a good state. I understand there is probably a lot of pressure on you to release as soon as possible, but if its not ready just delay it. I wish you all the best for developing this game

I was wondering what was taking KSP2 to come out, it now makes perfect sense
@transfer2venus2 жыл бұрын
Incredibly excited to try this. KSP 1 was one of a few very important influences in my life that convinced me to pursue aerospace engineering, and I am now pursuing my PhD in the field. Love everything I'm hearing here
