I agree with Kermode about the misguided criticism of BvS or MoS being bad because of lack of humor. I couldn't care less if you don't throw one single joke as long you got a good story and engaging characters. Frankly, the lack of jokes is the least of the problems with these movies. FYI: Snyder had shot and planned for an almost three-hour final theatrical version... but the head of Warner issued a decree that the film had to be edited down to two hours long (so that its runtime facilitated a maximum number of showings per cinema). It's likely that an extended cut Blu-ray version will be closer to three-hours long... but from the sounds of your review it won't make the film any better or more coherent.

People seriously act like the directors cut of BvS turned it into a masterpiece. 3hrs of this movie wouldn't have made it a LoTR masterpiece...

One big problem I noticed was the pacing. They tried _so_ hard to cut the film down to the two-hour mark, and it shows. The scenes have no room to breathe; it's like nearly every moment where the characters weren't doing or saying something important for plot, action setpieces, or the character development outline was chopped out, and perhaps entire character scenes which were necessary only in aggregate. They tried to cram in too much, and then they cut it down.
@Poseiden27 жыл бұрын
Great comment Mark - any superhero film has to have a lead character (and also its villains/supporting cast) with vulnerabilities, nuances and qualities that make them 3 dimensional and allow people to relate to them. The original Spiderman trilogy and the Dark Knight trilogy had this; many of the more recent films haven't, in my opinion.

@davechucks7 жыл бұрын
Do you actually know what incoherent means? Because that reflects fairly badly on yourself if you couldn't follow the plot. Maybe break it down into the acts and it might help you? So what was pointless about the characters? Two in the continuity saw a threat and knew they needed help, so they recruited the other Meta Humans.... I don't need to explain where they had that information because you liked BvS.... how is that pointless.... what development did you want or expect... the threat was ongoing at the time the team was put together, it was immediate. Do you think they'd just let the invasion carry on so we could maybe see Victor lubricating his joints or something. WTF is wrong with people.

Sorry Mark, I almost stopped listening when you said Batman and Robin was a better film... Seems to me critics have given into a hyperbole of negativity around Justice League. This is the first review of the film that I find to be accurate. DC is way too obsessed with catching Marvel. And , as a result , the films no longer have any semblance of self . I was hoping that DC would continue the adult themes set by Nolan . While the first couple had some flaws ( which I put down to pandering ) I was hopeful that they would decide on which side of the fence they wanted to be on and focus on building films around character and the weight of responsibility given incredible power . The reference to Schumacher is very fitting imo. The poor writing , plot and character development will lead to a destruction of the franchise. For me , like Affleck , that's it . I'm done spending money on these films. Why watch a faux Marvel when you can get the real thing .

I can't say I'm surprised by the good doctor's review, but I was actually pleasantly surprised by the film. I fully expected it to be dreadful, but found it an improvement on BvS. So admittedly I'm coming at it from a very low base of expectation, and it is incredibly daft, but I didn't think it was boring, and a lot of the comic relief actually worked quite well for me. And let's face it, none of these films were ever going to top the Dark Knight trilogy. I got the impression with Man of Steel that that was what they set out to do, but sometime between that film and this one they completely gave up on that, and that can only be a good thing.

AHALambda101 it's good. This is Kermode's opinion. I respect it, and usually agree. But not here. I think he's way off. Not in his not liking it. Obviously, that's his prerogative. But in his saying it is an incoherent mess. It is true that the reduced running time makes it feel rushed. But unlike Kermode, I was never bored. Nor did I have any problem following. And I had no, "Oh, c'mon, give me a break!" moments, unlike with BvS.

About time somebody gave a honest review, I get annoyed when other youtube critics say well it's flawed but fun. Sorry but in a world where we are inundated with comic book films, if the film isn't as good or better than the ones that are, sorry that's just not gonna cut it anymore. Marvel may make many generic films with a few truly good ones here and there, but apart from Wonder Women, nothing the DC universe has done film wise has been worth a damn.

deraj nitram I respectfully disagree. I really enjoyed this one.

That's great if you did, but I've seen far better attempts from other comic book films, this is simply put "fun" but overly flawed, to where I personally can't say I enjoyed it. Some jokes work, most don't, and the CGI more often than not is overdone, and frankly unfinished looking. The plot if that can be said is clunky, unfocused, and all over the place, as is the editing.

This is the type of movie that gives the mainstream population superhero fatigue. It’s all CGI fight scenes with no story or character development. It reflects every negative stereotype of comic book movies. All style no substance. Thanks Zack Snyder.

You're so wrong about this. Yet another example of a film you should watch with a normal audience. The screening I was in was rocking.

Same thing happens to me. I look at you and wonder how did you get there?
