Our games teacher was just like Brian Glover. We had three minutes to change, God help you if you didn't have your kit. It was sodding freezing in the winter, and muddy. The showers were luke warm and the footballs were them great big heavy casers which filled up with water in the wet and the laces nearly had your bloody eye out.

'We'll be Spurs, so there's no clash of colours' Priceless. Barry Hines who wrote this came to our school once to give a talk and read some stuff to us. I used to play in goal and watching this has just reminded me how terrible the pitches were as a kid. Freezing cold, puddles in the centre of goal, goal area surrounded in divots, the slap of mud on your legs from diving, the crappy gloves and having to squeeze water out of your sleeves. It really took the joy out of footy. Thankfully my school was attached to a sports centre so we could play indoors.
