I had started a new job as a care provider in an assisted living facility 4 years ago. I had been there maybe a month or so when we had our first staff meeting where there was food and sweets available for all. I just piled my plate with only meat dishes because I was doing carnivore at the time (and feeling and looking great--my skin was absolutely glowing). One of the med techs asked me why I only had meat on my plate and I told her that I had been doing carnivore for 2 months and had lost 17 pounds and was feeling fantastic. You would have thought she had seen a ghost. Her eyes got so huge and she started telling me how unhealthy that way of eating was and that I could get really sick from it. Mind you, this med tech was probably around 300 pounds and eating an ice cream cone while she was lecturing me on the dangers of eating carnivore. It was taking everything I had to listen to her with a straight face. 🤣

I was first diagnosed with Type II in 2008. Managed to keep it fairly well-controlled (A1C below 7) pretty well, eventually even without meds. Blood pressure was the same... history of being high, but got it down to about 130/90 fairly consistently. Not perfect, but not going to kill me, so long as it didn't get higher, right? So, I start Keto on 8/26 of this year (my birthday -- a present to myself, as it turns out!). I see my Dr. on 11/23. In 3 short months, without any struggle once I got through the first 2 days of detox/withdrawal, I'd lost 30 lbs, brought my BP down to 110/70, brought my A1C that had started creeping up to 7.4 down to 5.6. Brought my good cholesterol up, bad cholesterol down, triglycerides down, and overall cholesterol down to low end of good range. I also had better, increased numbers for calcium and Vitamin D (all the cheese!), both of which I had been having trouble with being deficient, no matter whether I took the supplements or not. I said to my Dr., "I know at some point I'll have to trade out some of the bacon for guacamole and olive oil..." He responded with, "Don't change a thing. You're making progress like I almost never see, are content with the diet and happy with the results. Only thing we'll change for now is bloodwork every 3 months instead of 6. If anything slips, we'll make adjustments then, before it gets out of hand, but I really don't expect it to." I love my Dr. 😀

My mother, who is a registered nurse and also my biggest bully ever about my weight, would always bring home papers laying out the newest fad diets to put me on when I was a kid. Everyone else in the house was thin and allowed to eat whatever they want, but because I wasn't thin I had to eat diets like the "Military Diet" and the "Cabbage Diet" and she would always say it was because she wanted me to be healthy. If you're a nurse, you should know that these diets are basically starvation and starvation isn't healthy. She was just embarrassed to have an overweight daughter who wasn't into ballet and cheerleading like she was and all she did by constantly forcing me to do these diets and shaming me about my weight and food choices was to give me a lifelong dysfunctional relationship with food. But, thanks to a lot of introspection and personal growth, I am finally working to repair that dysfunctional relationship with food. I had a family friend say to me after not seeing them for years "how are you doing??......I can see you aren't going hungry". When my daughter was 9 months old I found out I was pregnant again but after an ultrasound it showed that the baby had died but never aborted. I had to have a D&C done and for about a year afterward I was in a deep depression. I gained over 150 pounds in that time and I am working on getting rid of it. While it is important to continue to "move" people have forgotten that you do not need to "exercise" (in the new definition sense of the word) to be healthy at all. It is important to keep your body moving, in what ever capacity that means for u. Sarah and Emily, I love that you garden. And i bet you, you move ur body more than the average person who goes to gym (because they believe that is what they need to do) 3x a week mindlessly sitting on a recumbent bike watching tv (while i hope they are watching your youtube videos). You are filling your cup with things you love that provide movement to your every day, you eat the way the feels good for your body, and you find meaning your work. Hello from Iowa! I am 62 years old and have been on Keto since October 21, 2020. I went through Health Transitions in our city to get started on the Keto Diet. It was a 9 month commitment. However, my husband and I are still doing Keto. I have lost 86 pounds so far. I started out at 278 pounds and am down to 193. I still want to get to 140 pounds. I had stalled for three months and couldn’t seem to get past 190. I had reached 190 for a few days and then went back up to 194.6. Then I was back up to 197 a few days ago. I realized I wasn’t tracking my carbs or calories very well. So this week I joined Keto Cycle and have been counting my carbs again. With Health Transitions we counted net carbs. With Keto Cycle we count regular carbs. So this one is much stricter yet I don’t get that hungry. I am back down to 193 and hope that I keep losing it this week to get back down to 190. I am looking forward to getting into the low 180’s and then move on down. I fast every day from 7 p.m. to 12 noon or 1 p.m. each day. I have done that ever since we started Keto back in 2020. I have had a few people tell me that if I go off of Keto I will gain all of my weight back. Well duh! I told them Keto can sustain me for the rest of my life and I am so thankful for this way of eating. I have a good friend that keeps telling me I am going to die if I stay on Keto. First she told me that eating fat was going to clog my arteries and I should be on a low fat diet. I told her low fat foods have added sugars in them. I’m not going to go on a low fat diet. Since I got off of the sugar I feel so much better and don’t have a problem with inflammation like I used to. Then just a month ago she told me there was a study that came out that says Keto causes tumors in your body and I should get off of Keto. I can’t seem to make this friend understand that my husband and I have had our every 6 month check up. We both used to be pre-diabetic. Praise the Lord God we are both healed from that. Keto heals type 2 diabetes. We are no longer pre-diabetic. We both used to have back cholesterol. We both have normal cholesterol numbers now. So eating fat has healed our cholesterol. Then there is an article that comes out every year that says Keto is the worst diet to be on. From what I heard from Fox News that article comes out every year. The writers don’t bother to do their homework. False news strikes again giving Keto a bad rap! My hubby has lost nearly 70 pounds. He is still working hard to get the weight off. We both are. Hang in there girls. Thank you so much for your video. I appreciate you both!

She couldn't understand that I don't wish to ever eat those bad foods again. Sheesh. She works out and eats and drinks fruity drinks but is heavier. You two are so right! I've heard all of this "good" advice my entire life. When I ate breakfast, it was donuts, pop tarts, or cereal. Even after being keto this long, I won't do "everything in moderation" because if I eat something high in sugar, I want more and more. Thank you for explaining this so well. This video should be saved and played for every person giving the advice.

The worst diet I ever did was the HCG diet. Under a physician’s care, I ate 500 calories a day and took HCG. I lost 30 pounds in 30 days and was not miserable doing it. However, once the 30 days was over, I gained 60 pounds back in a very short time because there was no follow-up advice and I just started back eating like before. Anyway, I had paid a lot of money and it was just devastating to gain all the weight back plus more. Plus, I’m sure it messed up my metabolism big time. Love the channel and you are so encouraging and real. Thank you so much!

I'm with you guys: I don't "exercise" anymore, but I do take walks with my dogs, and go on bike rides when it's a beautiful day, and dance when the music moves me. Adopting the keto lifestyle - and finally understanding that my body is carb intolerant - is what's important and it's something I can maintain the rest of my life without the guilt of the "have to's" that others impose on us.

Exactly on all of these. Especially gaining it back and more and eating whatever I want in moderation. I can’t eat carbs in moderation. I have never been able to eat carbs in moderation. And no, I don’t need to exercise. All I plan to do is walk a bit. That’s enough. Been there, done that with exercising like crazy. Not going to do it again. I will go for a short walk.

Not only are people being condescending when they tell you that you will only gain it back when you "go off Keto", they are just tearing you down. It seems that some people are not "happy" unless they are discouraging other people. I can't understand this at all. You girls are very honest and I agree with all you have said. I am a woman, nearly 74 years old and have done Keto, more or less, since the late 1960's when the Dr., whatever his name was, came out with the Low Carb Diet. I was in my early 20's and struggling with my weight for the first time in my whole life because I was put on birth control pills. The pills changed, of course, my hormones and my metabolism. What a shock it was to find I couldn't just eat the way I always had and I didn't even grow up eating junk. Now, in my 70's it is more important than ever for me to stick with Keto and I love the encouragement I receive from watching you gorgeous women!

I've heard all the comments that people have said to you too.... I started low carb in 2003 and tightened it up as the months passed by...I lost 77 pounds and kept it off... This is a way of life that I can't imagine not living now... In 2005 I had so much excess skin that I had a tummy tuck and breast list - not only did I look good, my internal feelings about myself soared. I did it for me and have never regretted it. I do OMAD in early evening, I don't count calories, I eat until I am full. I sleep better, focus better, attitude is better. I didn't exercise either...and still don't..I walk for cardio. Exercise is only 5% of weight loss...so it's not really worth the struggle when you dread doing it. 70 pounds, only 3 pounds was from weight loss..I'll skip it thanks. I'm 63 yrs old, newly retired and feel like I have a whole life in front of me. Also, about every 7 or 8 weeks, I will eat a normal meal, usually going out to a sit down restaurant, not junk food... I eat it moderately, enjoy it and then carry on to my OMAD life... no guilt, no regrets. A nutritionist scolded me about my lifestyle a few yrs back saying I could never continue this life and I am missing many nutritional things that I need..such as an orange, or the benefits of a potato. The medical pros are killing Americans, and the food industry is even worse... Look at Americans...fast food, processed garbage, quick easy reach for bags of chips, fries, pasta... Little 6 yrs old so fat their arms don't rest at their sides...think of 10 yrs from now. I'm healthier at 63 than most 20 yrs olds and my labs prove it. You girls carry on..ignore the advice, keep doing what you are doing... good for you that you found the secret to health and wealth of life. You both look great.

I have also been keto for three years. I was in recovery from a hysterectomy for the first six months and hardly moved at all but the weight came off easily compared to when I did a popular diet program and exercised like a fiend in grad school. I love this video! You hit all the points that pushed my buttons in the past. The one I hate most - always cut your meal in half and put half away. It's based on the belief that everyone stays hungry for a full twenty minutes after they finish their portion. After being on keto for one year, I found I often reached a point where I realized I was only eating because I was required to clean my plate as a child. It was so liberating when I realized I really did not have to eat if I was not hungry and I could put away the food when I got full.

You hit it! People can NOT help themselves and feel they have to tell you that Keto is unhealthy . I then ask “have your studied it?” Then they regurgitate only a snip it of information they think they know and stand tall thinking they have a mortal high ground cause they are healthy as #$@%. It really has infuriated me, however… this is my journey and my journey only. I feel their bottom dwelling opinion of it means nothing to me anymore. I, over all these years, have learned such horrible habits and now know that i do NOT have to eat breakfast to be healthy, and that eating less meals IS ok. Somehow my body will survive the fewer calories. So thank you for always talking about such real shit and for being so vulnerable with all of us, your keto family. We are all just doing our best to be our best.

I started on keto / low carb lifestyle Sept. 1st , by December 28th I lost 42 pounds, October 2nd I broke my toe and my foot and ankle swelled up, then the end of December again problems with both Ankles got better then Jan. 27 again , my foot dr told me my Uric acid was extremely high , I told him I was eating healthy low carb Keto , he said that probably what is causing it. I disagree, researched the medications I’ve been taking , I have been taking Vascepa 4 a day and one of the side effects is gout. drs should look at the new research and results, just after 3 months on keto I lost 30 pounds my triglycerides dropped 159 points , and my A1C went from 6.7 to 5.9 So I stopped taking the Vascepa it was supposed to help lower cholesterol, I think continuing keto will be better with that.

First of all I am enjoying your content keeping it coming. Second I personally agree that you don't need to exercise to lose weight however it will help tighten and tone areas that may become saggy due to weight loss. I have been on what I call a "ketolike" lifestyle since 2018 and I've gone from 283# down to 246# from a 3XL to a XL/L depending on the material. Some may say that's not much but for me its good because the inches loss makes me look like its way more wt loss. So I think this will be a lifestyle I'll keep for the duration. 😉

OMG, you girls NAILED IT on every point you made. I've also lost weight on keto with ZERO exercising. Interesting how eating breakfast used to make you feel - same with me when I was a kid. I'd feel a little nauseous, as well. The point you made about someone saying to you something like, "oh just have a little" of something, it won't hurt. Yeah - that's like telling an alcoholic trying to stay in recovery to "just have a little". Absolutely NOT. It's the same thing. When the carbs metabolize into sugar in our system, it's ADDICTING. The more you eat, the more you CRAVE the carbs. And yeah, LMNT rocks! I look forward to it every single day.

I appreciate the work you girls put into researching and presenting information. I agree that losing some weight before embarking on a regular exercise program is a good idea. It’s not just losing weight that can ease the stress on joints. Eating way less carbs can lower inflammation that can cause joint pain. Cutting most carbs has eliminated my knee pain so much that I’m not getting the surgery!

Because they think they know… when they are so wrong. I really love this video because I have heard every single bad piece of advice that you mentioned. The one that really gets under my skin at this point in my journey is when people say are you going to not eat sugar and wheat flour for the rest of your life? But they say it in a way that is like a little condescending and that it's unrealistic. Yes. Yes I will eat this way for the rest of my life! For me personally sugar and wheat flour or super inflammatory, I have no control when I consume them, but it was a struggle to remove them from my life but I'm now 18 plus months free of those ingredients. I'm definitely not strict keto but I will tell you my way of eating in general is very low carb. I think it's not high fat enough to be considered keto. But anyway that doesn't matter. I think when people make comments like that it is from a place of being judgmental and feeling like it's unrealistic. I can still enjoy every single bite of food that I eat, live my life, and love preparing meals without those ingredients! To be honest I don't want to ever go back to the old way.

Good video. I do think there is a caveat with a stubborn plateau & while in most cases it is likely you are eating more/miscalculating but if you are eating OMAD & am certain you are eating at a large deficit, then the solution is not to fast more or eat less. You will need to slowly increase your calories & even take a short break from IF.

I lost 33 pounds on keto in 4 months. I was technically keto, I felt myself get thinner and did before and after pictures. I have 5 kids and they were all supportive along with my husband. I stopped and the next two months slowly lost 7lbs more. I eat healthy 85% of the time and the other 15% is unhealthy food but keto taught my body to stop when i wasn't hungry anymore as I ate. Family said keto is dangerous but my Renpho scale and results on the app don't lie at all. I was unhealthy before eating carbs like there was no tomorrow. I don't work out at all and I hate to say this but everyone who said this to me had high cholesterol, or type 2 diabetes. 🙄 I will definitely do keto again if the scale goes back up but I got to my goal weight and more. Keto is amazing and I still enjoy y'all's videos and dishes. 🤗💕

I have to admit that a couple of decades ago when I ate two donuts (three?) with a cup of coffee (a pot?) for breakfast, I wasn't hungry for the rest of the day. I sometimes even ate less at dinner.
