Had my Keurig for over a year now; just did this for the first time. Saw more residue come out from this exercise than from descaling. Thanks for the vid!

I'm in the process of descaling out Keurig 2.0 and I came across this video. I just went on Amazon I found this accessory for $3.49 and put it in my cart. Can't wait to get it, thanks.

So when I used mine for the first time I did not “top it off” after inserting into the machine. Luckily I have an eye dropper bottle to make it real easy. Also, I used vinegar instead of water to make the grounds more soluble. And I leave the pod in there for a few minutes sometimes up to 30 minutes. Reason being, that my family never disposes the pods after brewing and the old grounds in the pods dry up inside the needle. The machine wouldn’t need so much maintenance if they would just throw out the pods after brewing.
@RFMike4 жыл бұрын
That is true. The B series of Keurig Machines that are the Commercial Office Models actually have a bin in the back lower compartment behind the needle system. So after a K-cup is used...you lift the handle back up and the K-cup Basket FLIPS the cup into the catch bin and hold them there till a sencor sees that the bin is full and ready for dumping.

I couldn’t find my orange tool so I put a little hot water in the corner of a sandwich bag. Unplugged the machine, put the bag in with the excess of the bag cupping the outside and did 7 open/close. Removed the bag and powered back on and it was fixed.

Had this thing for years, never used it till now. Think the paper clip is more effective.
@RFMike4 жыл бұрын
The paper clip definitely works better at the cloggs. but for the external cleaning this its too shabby.

you skipped STEP 7 after you do the 5 open/close then you are supposed to turn it ON and run HOT water through it.

What do you honestly think of it?? Has it worked better for you
@msalazar4134 жыл бұрын
Michael Swaim hey hey. thanks for the message. Yes, when i ran the hot water through it (step 7?), there was a lot of gunk in the cup i filled. so i ran the hot water with the cleaning cup installed. I was surprised it had so much old coffee that flushed out. Thanks for the video!

@@RFMike If used regularly it is pretty effective. I will eventually have to use the paperclip but this greatly increases the time between.

Would tearing off the top of a used pod, and filling it with water not offer similar results? I clean my Keurig with vinegar in the reservoir (a few cups worth) and then run the machine several times dumping the vinegar water back in the reservoir after it brews. I am looking to reduce any calcium buildup in the brewer even though I use 3x filtered water. I use a 5 micron, and 1 micron filter on the water line, and then filter the water with a Brita as well. Anyway, hope you all are enjoying your fresh brewed coffee. Cheers.
@hvy55chvy014 жыл бұрын
Hey Dougster, No, it wouldn't be the same. The shape and position and rigidity of the of the cleaning tools "ball" pod has special purpose. As you close the handle on creates a very tight seal around the needle seal well before the brew chamber handle is fully depressed. A give away that its sealing tightly is that the last part of the lever arm closure is more difficult that normal. That's because once the ball seals with the needle's seal you are compressing/squishing the ball. This causes a pressure spike inside the ball. With no otehr place to go that pressure shoots the water in the ball (make sure it's fully filled with water) back up into the needle's passages. Doing that lever closure action several times in a row dislodges particulates, sort of like a rudimentary oral water pick cleaner. It wont be a full clearing flush since the pressure spikes are very brief and mainly only upwards into the needle. Brewing just hot water after using this tool is flushes any reaming dislodging stuff. A used used pod will not seal against the needle seal as the ball does and the lower needle will just let water run out. There would be no compression and pressure spike every time you close the lever.

Yeah this is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. Just use the damn paper clip and be done with it!
@teddsmith30863 жыл бұрын
I tried the paper clip but all it did was push the coffee grounds back into the water piping and it soon plugged up again. Then I tried the little orange water pump and it did the same thing. Some of the coffee was released into the container but a couple of days later, plugged again. Finally got fed up and bought a Cuisinart. We'll see if it suffers the same fate after 3 years.

This product doesn't fit my Keurig B60 Special Edition but I was able to reproduce what it does by removing the water reservoir, taking a real deep breath and blowing very hard into the hole where the water enters the machine from the water reservoir. All manner of crap spit out of that line. 👀
