Can Blender handle doing large-scale Tatooine inspired cities like Mos Espa from the Book of Boba Fett? I attempted it for a few hours and I believe it's totally possible with some caveats. Here's what I did.

I really like how you showcase the bumpy road to the final product. For me that made it more interesting to watch than vids that just go straight from A to B not mentioning any of the failed attempts that helped pave that way. Even though I'm quite proficient with Blender, I still regularly find myself going for a take two, or take three after my initial plan proves to be too cumbersome.

Geo nodes even let you do crazy things like procedural buildings. You could get crazy and make a city of unique buildings, scatter props like crates and cars and trash all over. There's really no limit to the depth you can go to, it depends entirely on when you decide it's enough.

Really wonderful result. Of course my "accuracy node" in my brain tries to object but then I bring it back with "not everything needs to be accurately interactive, and film shots or render shots can really make magic with these tricks"... Guess its my more game-dev approach that has me constantly think "the city is fake, I can't walk in it and nothing makes sense on ground level, no actual city layout design etc etc etc", which has bled into my general creative projects as well. Im that nut that will create a city for a book and will sit there and draw the city first creating districts and locations and unique parts to it etc etc. Guess both ways work, depends on what you are going for :) Awesome result, love it.

Very true on all accounts. For brevity sake, I didn’t build in a city grid or roads, just dirt. It’s not practical in any way other than an rushed establishing shot. Something like this needs way more time, which I never have. Thanks!

I like using visual references instead of squinting to find numbers. When you work shot after shot after shot, your eyes start to bug out (moreso as I age lol). Thanks though for the kind words!! I appreciate it.

Now we just need some "Force Power" geonodes to make it complete. Fore Duplicate, Force Scatter, Force Array, Force Random, Force On Points... Make it so! Oh, wait... that's Star Trek. Away, put your mouse... Force surrround you, you must let... Path of the Blendi, it is.

@@KevBinge That'd be a lot of microcode and sub routines. :) Would be weird if we found out later that there are quantuum world inside our computers filled with luminous people and frisbees and motorcycles... I have TRON on Blu-Ray. Both theold one and the sequel. :) Those 80's FX... that was the bomb back then, and I still enjoy it, but what you guys do today is mind-blowing.

How important is it to work at actual scale? If you adjust the camera it should work at a smaller scale just like using scale models in real filmmaking. Or is it just easier to use actual scale?
@KevBinge
@KevBinge 2 жыл бұрын
For my mind it’s easier and if I end up using Houdini, the physics work better. You could work at scale and it would be fine.

That’s would work too. The only issue there is not getting the ability to smash different walls together, but yeah, would work well.
