I think we black folks have a really skewed view of “OK”. I constantly hear my parents spanked/beat me and “I turned out ok.” Or my parents didn’t explain things to me/talk to me but “I’m ok.” My childhood was (varying degrees of) traumatic but look, “I’m ok and I don’t need therapy.” I’m like are you sure though? Sure you aren’t a drug addict, you have a job, and/or you’re not in jail. But if that’s all we need to be considered “ok”, we’ve set the bar tooooo low. Let’s try to be consistently WHOLE and balanced and not just ok.

Thats exactly the mentality i dont want to push on my kids. We in the black community can have such a low standard of "turned out alright" that we negate traumas we inflict on our children and self as "part of life" and dont take the time/dedication to properly heal.

TheGoreeTruth I agree with you on that. I had a pretty decent childhood but I did not turn out ok. I still needed therapy. So I can only imagine the state of people who have had more traumatic experiences than I did. My ex husband thinks he’s ok and he really is not.

Celebrity moms get asked about their kids constantly in interviews. “How is it juggling family life and work life?” Men rarely get asked these questions because no one thinks twice about workaholic dads who don’t see their kids for months at a time. A mom who overworks and travels a lot, is abandoning her children, a father who overworks and travels a lot, is just providing for his kids

Those men usually have a stay at home wife who takes care of the kids and also women are naturally more attracted to caring for their kids than men are. Women will and will always be naturally more attached to kids they have. Women are the ones who are pregnant with the child for 9 months and then stay home to recover and breast feed the child. It’s not just black men, in the US we work a lot period. Other countries take breaks, naps, shorter work days, more vacation, etc... those things are generally frowned upon in the US. Also, black people are generally working from a disadvantage position and usually have to work harder to overcome socio-economic racism to achieve wealth. It’s not about being the good ones, it’s about helping to put your family in a better position economically. Kevin Hart grew up poor, his kids will not. His kids won’t need to work as hard as he does, they’ll have access to better education, healthcare, opportunities, etc and so will the rest of his family (if he shares his wealth). Sure he could scale back, but we can’t fault him for putting his family in a better position.

Kaskus when in reality it’s a tragic paradox to try so hard to not be the racist stereotype of the broke and absent deadbeat dad that you work yourself to death only to end up being an absent father that is providing everything financially only to realize your children need you and your time far more than anything money can buy. I don’t mean this to be accusatory or shaming anyone, it’s genuinely sad. I’m white but even my father was often absent do to bring a workaholic when I was very young. It was a blessing and a curse when my mother left and went MIA for a few years, it made my dad realize that being someone’s sole parent and support system requires quality time more than anything else. Also I don't think Kevin is doing anything different from a lot of kids who become the first person in their family to accumulate large amounts of money they take care of their family financially. His father is ill and I think he honestly just wants to be positive with his father and forgive him. Again wanting acceptance from your parents / people you care about and love is a normal thing.

LMAO Kevin and Eniko are both liars as far as when they got together. I remember the past year or so I watched a KZbin video regarding an Instagram post that Eniko made that said something to the effect of the wonderful number of years that they have been together --but then a follower commented and pretty much said something to the effect of: "Ummm, you might want to delete this post since Kevin was still married during the time frame that you're speaking of.". For example, her post went something like she was celebrating how they had been together for 7 or 8 years..... Kevin Hart had been divorced for 5 or 6 years. I mean, his wife Torrei says they were still married when he and Eniko got together, we all can do simple math, so at this point they should just stop all the lying about how they got together or just don't speak on it at all.🤷🏾‍♀️

J.E. Pierson Why do you think that? Has Eniko said that? Or do you just assume that because she is pretty? Sounds like you’re just projecting anger or jealousy onto this woman you don’t even know. And how is she trading in her self-respect by being with Kevin? Staying with a cheater doesn’t mean your trading in your self-respect. Beyonce stayed with Jay-Z didn’t she? And she has her own money. “You would think someone that looks like her would have healthy self-esteem but nah” wow, what a dumb thing to say. Someone being pretty doesn’t mean they have high self-esteem. So are mildly attractive people supposed to have low self-esteem? This whole comment is just a mess

It is also going to be way off topic {😁lol😄} but, PLEASE PLEASE read this. At least, I hope you do. The topic you talked about made me click on your video. However, your personality and beauty is why I couldn’t keep my eyes off the screen. Obviously, I don’t know you personally. And it may seem odd for me to say all of this, but watching this made me so proud. I didn’t realize how long the video was till it was over. You had me hooked from the start. That never happens to me. Usually 5 mins in and I’m on to the next. I’m typing this, because I feel like black women (not all the time, but in many cases) are too often looked down on, or just flat out excluded. I don’t feel like enough of us know our worth or have the confidence to stand tall in front of others. In my opinion, there isn’t enough of an accurate representation online. You posted a video talking about a celebrity tv show. Simultaneously shining with dazzling upbeat, self-assured class. It was really impressive to watch. Everything was interesting, well thought out/planned and extremely well executed. I am definitely subscribing!!!! And after I’m done writing this comment, I’m going to binge watch everything else you’ve posted lol. Whiling watching I couldn’t stop smiling. Because, whether you meant to or not, your video showed everyone watching that, BLACK IS SMART BLACK IS CAPTIVATING And most importantly BLACK IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING in every way, shape, and form. It doesn’t matter to me what color you are. We are all capable of amazing things. It’s just nice seeing people like you representing in such a positive way. Kevin using the excuse of “I was in an unfamiliar city and my friends weren’t there” as a reason for why he cheated on his wife is pretty ridiculous. You’re a grown man. It’s not your friends job to keep you from cheating. You shouldn’t need them to stay faithful to your wife. I’m also betting this isn’t the first time he cheated, it’s just the first time he got caught. He’s probably one of those men who thinks it’s okay to cheat because he’s the sole breadwinner for his family and provides them a lavished lifestyle. A lot of celeb men have this mindset and it’s pretty gross. If you can’t be faithful, don’t be married. It’s that simple.

What really pisses me off about Kevin Hart is the whole "it's just a joke" defense about his homophobia when it's really not. He got in the most trouble for saying he'd smash a dollhouse over his son's head if he caught him playing with one. He tried to pass this off as a joke because it's an extreme statement, and he probably wouldn't go so far as to do that, but what he didn't pass of as a joke was the sentiment behind the statement itself, which is that he has bigoted hatred toward gay people and would retaliate against his son if he were to be gay. He said he'd consider himself a failure as a father if his son were gay... all of these remarks further damaging homophobic stereotypes and lies that gayness is a choice, or a result of parents being too soft, and assert that gay sons are an affront to their fathers and that gayness, or any behavior that is considered too feminine in boys, is innately wrong, shameful and warrants parental rejection or violence.
@haggisa
@haggisa 4 жыл бұрын
BoneMeringue Very well said. His tweets weren’t only homophobic, they were emblematic of the kind of toxic masculinity, that shames boys for being too soft and feminine, and teaches them, that gender roles are carved in stone. That’s the part that I found really heartbreaking.

Same. Those dumb "I won't do this because is gay" jokes are childish and forgivable. But when you talk about violence against you own kid for doing something traditionally "feminine", sorry but that's atrocius. Didn't Tracy Morgan "joked" on a similar way? Something about stabbing his kid if he talked like gay or something? What kind of "it gets better" can a gay black kid expect with these black fathers talking that kind of shit?.
@AslanNotYoshi

BoneMeringue I 100% agree. And even if he really did say it as a joke, that proves he is not versed on the history of violence inflicted upon people for BEING gay. Which it tickles me that a black man of any background couldn’t relate to that at all? It was not uncommon and still is not uncommon for a person or couple to be beaten and tortured simply for kissing each other or even just existing. The same is said of black people no matter the background. One would think :/ its like a white person joking about beating his son for “acting black”. No please
