Turn to bible and allow CHRIST to be your therapist, psychologist and psychiatrist. No man nor women fits to be one. All are sinners and without glory, all are tempted and suffer the same. All are expected to REPENT AND BORN AGAIN, to LIVE HOLY AND GO AND SIN NO MORE. All are weak in the daily fight between their spirit and flesh. All these therapist, psychologist and psychiatrist, this world provides, can do is: to deceive and steal. They deceived you through all these “diagnoses” and they steal your money, through all the pills which you “need”. In short: they poison your mind and your overall health, leaving you with neither one. Therapist, Psychologist and Psychiatrist = Field where no human soul, never ever going to fit of being an help, no matter the among of years spend in “medical schools” or the decree gotten from there. ALL of us are daily deceived, no matter the walks of life.

It's really upsetting to see people talking shit about psychiatry, psychology, psychiatrists,... It's such an amazing job to help people out there suffering from mental illnesses. I, myself go to a psychiatrist and a psychologist. Both of them help me a lot and they're such an inspiration. Being a psychiatrist or even a psychologist is so stressful. You have to deal with many patients' issues and then when you lose them, it's terrible. So please have some respect for them. For those wanting to becoming a psychiatrist: It's a great job if you're interested in it. And it's not only about prescribing meds as some people who are probably high school dropouts in the comment section are claiming. It's a lot more than that. All the best.

Mandalo Rian well if you look extensively in the history of psychiatry, you’d know that the so called illnesses aren’t actually based on any facts. In fact it has been scientifically proven that there’s no such thing as a chemical imbalance. I mean, these are the same people that created lobotomies! Why would you trust them? Also it actually had been proven that these drugs can be harmful to you and can kill you. There’ve even been psychiatrists themselves that have abused their patients. It’s not a good business to get into.

Reading Oliver Sacks is what initially piqued my interest in neurology when I was a med student back in the 80s. Been a neuro for thirty years, now. Psychiatry is an interesting, growing, and important medical specialty. I got crap for wanting to be a neurologist when I was starting out; it's YOUR life, do what makes you happy. Choose a specialty that feeds your intellect, pays your bills and any educational debts, and gives you the life-work balance you desire. Bottom line, you're helping other humans in whatever specialty field you love.

hey, i’m 16, and i’m currently in high school still. i’ve always though i would be a psychologist, not a psychiatrist, but feeling that incoming dread of going to college in about two years, i’ve been doing my fair share of research. i’ve always been hesitant of deciding to go into psychiatry, since i barely knew much about it. i just knew that it was psychology but being able to prescribe medication. which i found is true but has a deeper path than that. anyways, i will be doing more research, but i feel like my heart is finally set on being in Psych. it provides fluidity, diversity, not to mention helping others. everything that fits well with what i want to do in life. i’m truly excited, never having been this pumped about my future career. just wanted to thank you for showing us this and giving your younger audience a chance to see what benefits and what potentials behold us.

How does psychiatry being a pseudoscience equate to being unbalanced and unreasonable? Your logic itself is abysmal. SSRIs are an effective treatment for depression -- this has been supported by clinical trials and actual scientific experiments. You know what isn't science? Pulling bs arguments out of your ass.

depression is tricky. I may agree to a certain extent that there's heavy pharmaceutical ties and financial motives behind some self funded clinical trials in depression/tx resistant depression and that the findings are not always translatable to clinical practice. That said, i disagree with your statement that psychiatry is a pseudoscience. Theres strong neuroscience to back it up. Psychosis in schizophrenia or even drug-induced psychosis has strong underlying neural mechanisms (dopamine/5HT, frontal cortex) as shown by imaging studies. And I'm saying these are longitudinal studies that have looked at >700 people across many years of their lives. Bipolar is another one and mood stabilizers (lithium) have shown great efficacies in reducing mania episodes. My point is, medicine doesn't just cure disorders, it helps improve quality of life, especially in those with chronic debilitating conditions like schizos/bipolar. And psychiatry is about getting these folks back to their lives where they can function in the society. Bro, whatever beliefs/values you hold, I respect your opinion. I just disagree with your statement. glad to hear your thoughts tho

I Think I Might Be Schizophrenic, Do You Know How To Tell If Someone Is Schizophrenic?
@rhiannonhoughteling374 жыл бұрын
If you suspect that you may be have schizophrenia it's best to go see a psychiatrist or psychologist. I'm not qualified just yet to diagnose you, especially not over the internet. However, the DSM has the classifications in which someone would use to diagnose a patient with Schizophrenia. Auditory hallucinations, visual hallucinations, paranoia, delusions, disorganized speech or behavior are all symptoms. Those are positive symptoms. Negative symptoms could Include lessened emotional expression, lessened inner personal skills, etc. These symptoms have to have been happening for a continued amount of time with in a specific pairing. A psychiatrist or psychologist may also look into schizioaffective disorder or other mood disorders or delusion disorders depending. The good news? There's a variety of treatment for Schizophrenia and many people who live normal healthy lives. The sooner you get help the more likely it is you'll be onto your new normal and adjusted. I can't wait for you to get there and we're cheering you on. Best, Rhi

I don't understand why there's so much hate for psychiatry from the public. Understanding the link between mental health and the brain is very important. I get that people have suffered from the treatment of individual psychiatrists themselves, but to say psychiatry is a pseudoscience and not a valid medical field is pretty ignorant. The DSM is imperfect, psychiatrists are imperfect too, but these people are highly trained, knowledgeable and most often want the best for their patients. Sad that the public opinion of psychiatry is like this. Let's destigmatize.

Also, a lot of these patients you will be with for a long time and honestly they depend on you. They build like a trust with you. And from my experience they ask me about my opinion on other medical problems they have. They show me EKGs, opinion in if they should to a surgery or not, etc. Ofcourse, if I know I help. If I’m not 100% sure cuz I don’t use that information everyday and it’s not my specialty, I be honest and tell them what I think but that they should follow up with a specialist. Trust bro, you will apply your medical knowledge

@matthewreyes96404 жыл бұрын
Rhiannon Houghteling it depends if you would want to sacrifice a couple of year of your life. I don’t recommend doing it 100% for the paycheck but you would be getting payed a lot more as a psychiatrist than as a Psychologist. It’s a pretty chill career as far as I’m concerned and if you really want to do it then go for it!

You should also think if you believe medicine would help some people with their mental health because if you go through becoming a psychiatrist, but don't feel comfortable prescribing medicine to patients that might need it, then I don't reccomend studying for the psychiatrist path. Also remember never decide a career because of the salary because you need to make sure you enjoy this career path. I wish you luck for what path you end up choosing!

I can't tell you what you need to do, but follow your interests and talk to as many in these fields as you can. I posted a few videos about being drawn to the speciality. Good luck!

I want to be a psychiatrist when I grow up, but I’m undecided whether I should take a psychology or neuroscience major. I wouldn’t mind taking either, because psychology helps develop the skills needed to talk to patients, and neuroscience is an in-depth learning of the brain and nervous system, which I love learning. What advice would be given in this case?
@unhealthyhomeostasis5 жыл бұрын
Double major if you think you can. I'm double majoring in bio and psych. If a double major isn't possible then see if you can do one as a minor or just take classes from that field. Good luck!
@danielaf.50015 жыл бұрын
Is double majoring as stressful as it sounds?
@unhealthyhomeostasis5 жыл бұрын
@@danielaf.5001 It depends on the course load for each major and your gen ed's. I got a lot of my gen ed's done when I came in/covered in the major. You probably would have to take more than the average number of credits for several semesters (at my school the average is 16 and I've taken 18, 20, 20, 22 in my first 4 semesters). You could start as a minor and change to a major once you figure out the course load and what you can handle while still taking care of yourself. For me it hasn't been all that bad but I'm just generally stressed so idk lol

u can take psychology but to be able to go far in that field, u have to do further studies n maybe do Clinical Psychology or Forensic Psychology etc, Psychiatry is tougher bcos u need to finish the whole medical school then only u can enter the residency

Okay, so long story short, I’ve decided to that I want to be a psychiatrist, but I’m not sure what the steps are from my bachelors. I’m two years out from my undergrad in psychology. What would you recommend as my next steps to get me where you are?
@julietmarie87005 жыл бұрын
Aeritecn I do, actively.
@artemisgide51005 жыл бұрын
Hi Juliet. Please ignore Aeritecn, clearly this is more about him than you. To answer your question, to be a psychiatric you need to attend 4 years of medical school as well as an additional 3 years of psychiatry residency. You should start by googling medical school requirements. The general pre-requisites include a year of biology, a year of inorganic chemistry, a year of organic chemistry, a year of physics, a year of math, and the rest will be covered by your psych degree including some of the math (e.g. statistics) and behavioral sciences. You can complete these courses at a community college, as part of a post bach program, or maybe you’ve already completed them. Once you finish those courses, the next step would be to start studying for the MCAT, which is about a 7-hour long test covering all the topics you’ll learn from your pre req classes. There’s a lot to be done, and it’s definitely not an easy path, but if you’re genuinely interested, I say it’s never too late to look into it! Feel free to email me at snajary94@gmail.com if you have any further questions!

The connection with colleagues to me is amazing. I want to be in a hospital every day I can be, night shifts, and on-call room discussions, I just can’t wait!

@Galderik That's often the stereotype of psychiatrists, at least in my country. That they're often mentally more sick than the patients they're treating.
