I'm a Neurosurgery resident and I decided to finish my computer science honours degree part-time (a necessity), I started a business (also a necessity) and I'm a single parent. I thought I was handling it all pretty okay but this evening my son wanted to spend more time than the hour I had generously alloted to him but I was editing something I'm behind on do I chased him to his room. My SO on the phone said an hour or so later that tonight was the first time in a while that I listened, I usually don't take the time and our calls are like status reports. This is by far the most important monologue I'm gonna hear this year. Probably all my life.

“Why do we spend our time as if we were going to live forever?” - it’s 5am here in Korea and I this is the first time but I’m actually happy that I didn’t fall asleep earlier because I got to see this video and have some self-reflection before falling asleep. As a med student and a procrastinator I totally admire you and thank you for such an insightful video! 🙂

Hey Dr. Jubbal, 2 days into my new morning routine. It is definitely not 100% working yet, but getting up, doing bed, feeding fish, taking a shower, and sitting down and doing my under 2 hours of anki super effectively. I have been able to just "enjoy" as in not feel rushed or pressured to finish the days work because its "done" by 12 Pm. Everything extra I do has me Feeling kickass.I have been working on exercise slowly over the past week and its been good, today I started focusing on my diet. Small changes every day. Nothing crazy. Just logging my foods and I cannot wait to see how I can improve my health along with study habits. Just thanks.

I couldn’t agree more with your statement about achieving balance by living at the extremes! That’s why this whole ‘home office from the beach’ concept has never worked for me, should I be concentrated as I am in my office, or relaxed as I am (and the people around me are) at the beach?!?

I confess I am a procrastinator at its finest...I leave everything for the last minute and study hard pulling all nighters and it has taken its toll on my health and my self confidence. I used to trust myself a lot when I was in highschool and back in tge day when I was studying my first major (Musical Education) because i could learn anything in just a few minutes or classes but now as a med student i've come to a point where I have to connect everything from Anatomy to Histology to Pathology to Physiology to be able to answer a question from my teachers. I'm more intentional now, I've been taking time to do things and study not only to take advantage of my memorisation skills but to actually gain some discipline and structure and its giving me results . This video has encouraged me to do it even more so to live responsibly and be able to dedicate my self and focus in my books and my loooong to do lists and then in my spare time. Thank you Dr. Jubbal.

Back in the day when I just became a medical student you were a symbol for me.. I tried to learn from your tips and do as good as I can in my studies But since you decided to not be a doctor anymore and preferred the entrepreneurship and the easier more organized work.. I started questioning my dedication to medicine and whether I should continue with the same effort After all it is a tiring not balanced and in my country not well paid job at least for your first 10 or so years after graduation I have other interests and talents so maybe I can focus on those more and it would be more profitable I am still a medical student and I am still studying but I always have those thoughts in my mind

It was a huge shock when I did my own research on the neuron surgery field. I've given up on this dream due to the fact the I won't be having a decent life even when I'm actually working. Right now, I'm not sure what I'm gonna be doing for my futures but I sure have things that I love to do. Your videos have given me insight which is what I needed. Now, I just need to be more focused on personal goals and hopefully I can enjoy life and do a business that'd be beneficial.

How much time do you feel like the average medical student wastes due to ineffective studying? You kind of alluded to it in the video. What are your thoughts when a med student discourages others from going to med school because “all they did was study.”
@kevinjubbalmd

Highly dependent on the individual. I’d say it’s quite common to push through with low to medium intensity for several hours rather than having shorter bursts of a couple hours broken up with breaks of chores, exercise, etc.

I honestly do not know what to do because I have lost all motivation to do anything. I don't feel like working out, eating healthy or studying. This lack of studying can also cause me serious damage because it'll determine where I end up for university. I keep on delaying my work and I've been procrastinating for the past 3 MONTHS! It's just causing me excessive anxiety but at the same time I can't get myself to sit down and work!

Hi, I've watched a number of your videos. Hope you dont mind me sharing some insight of what i see in them... The really neat things... -you seek to improve and grow always... - the suggestions you place in your videos seem often like your way of getting yourself on that thin daring line of sharing learned lessons with intent to sincerely help better some one else. And you also work for joy in it. -also i find while doing so this you might be trying to be very careful not to put yourself at steak.. (probably the wise thing too :D) thats daring and hard!neatto see someone care to what they do vs doing just to do. - another thing...really neat how you keep looking and watching yourself to improve.. and thaf seems to be your ongoing goal.... whetheryat school or living the regular day to after taking a different route. thats really neat and encouraging to see. yet, hard for me to break this to you, it will never be enough... you might be finding temporary fulfilments untill you may find yourself looking for something else.. over...and over... filling emptiness.. Your video about your ulcerative colitis was really raw and ive been touched to it enough to share this..I think it took lots of gut streangth there, to share that much with what seems with the whole world...(even though you seemed to speak of the lack of gut streangth in regaurds to the conditions) Just want to sincerely challenge you/ encourage you read through the Bible. looks like you happen to read though lots of books as habit as is..😅 shouldn't be too hard.. Id like to ask you to read through if not a few times then once and challenge yourself to be as "raw" / sincere if not more raw/sincere towards God, as you were in opening up to people about the "gut" .😢 I dont think that sittuation was just like that... you know why you shared and maybe not even fully yet.. wel You may know most of your motives in what you do and if not God knows them all even the better... idk why exactly.. i just wanted to share that... No intent of pushing religion.. you may or may not read this... if you find it useful... the happier!.. if not you can delete this, it's your call... no one will have to see it if you do delete You just seem smart and successful seeking to do good... so I decided to be "raw" and share what the Bible points out to me we cant put our strivings in doing good as our foundation in life it can crumble.. Our attemts of our "own righteousness are like filthy raggs" is what i found in reading and in my own life at one point. There is no true source of lasting joy in just realiance on trying to be a great person. Easier for me to say all this since my face is not put to it.. and now, when i dont find myself doing the same at the moment. As if it cant be in the next.. But i just saw you being real/sincere, to what looked like, as much as you could at that point... of the one video so i wanted to share...maybe encourage.. with this challenge again, think it, take it, leave it,delete it... what ever you do.. your call... Take care
