What's up ya'll, Let's talk about the importance of a healthy mindset in dance! Nowadays we are often focused on 'being better than we are now'. With that sometimes comes a mindset that can actually stagnate our growth as suppose to help us. I myself have experienced that my mindset on how I process moments, practice and knowledge has sometimes held me back and sometimes really flourished my dance. So i wanted to touch on it and share my 2 cents. What is your experience?
@UniQAzWeAre5 жыл бұрын
Kevin Paradox I totally recognise and agree with everything you said. Thanks for the reminders as well. Mindset is key!! Thanks for sharing!

Hey Nathalie, thanks for your input! Also an early happy holidays! 🎄
@mkulikowski5 жыл бұрын
In my opinion the cause of a wrong mindset can lay in the similarities between dance and sport as dance isn't a sport, it's art, but the sport mindset is drawn into dance as it also needs physicality. And as I know from my experience as a football goalkeeper whom I was back in the days, the idea of training hard and being better and better, not enjoying the game because the goal is to reach the victory one day so today is not important, comes from those associations.
@KevinParadox5 жыл бұрын
@@mkulikowski mmhmm yes i can relate. Its also interesting to how different dancers habe a different relationship with their dance. You can see it if a dancer has a more sport way of approaching. Or a artistic or social approach.
@mkulikowski5 жыл бұрын
Kevin Paradox it can be clearly seen when watching people cyphering. It's such a social way of sharing but people tend to look at it as an opportunity to be seen by many dancers, what's more, as the cypher gets bigger, the tension in dancing gets bigger. What's sad is that there becomes no real option for us, artists to share with people who want to speak rather than shout. We stop talking and start to shout more and more when we dance

Thank you for all of this! I’ve recently been applying some of these concepts, so your video came at a perfect time 🙏 My bro, Animated J, opened my mind to thinking of freestyling as playing. The word “play” is reminiscent of childhood, and I take inspiration from children because they’re carefree, honest, and not afraid to be themselves. In terms of mindset, imagine if I told you, “Freestyle right now,” versus “Play! Just play!” This mindset not only improved my dancing, but also allowed me to catch my habits, my strengths, my weaknesses, and so much more. I’ve learned a lot about myself by unlocking my inner child, and learning to love the bigger picture. It’s very humbling when you think about it. When you appreciate the bigger picture, you realize that the dance is about something much greater than yourself. People will always notice when a dancer comes from a genuine place of love for the dance as a whole. Just my 2 cents amidst my personal exploration, but above all, thank you Paradox 🙏

Always will be a fan of yours Paradox, thank you for being true.

dude yes!! every experience is another step to getting where you want to go. a healthy, calm mindset can also help with stress, anxiety, and depression. 3 mental disorders that can hurt the physical body. when you practice, you can start by visualizing with the mind and that helps you learn faster. and even when you're not practicing, your thoughts affect your actions and your actions affect your life. i love that you go in depth on these topics. esp breaking down how different foundations (outside of dance) can improve your dance. not cheesy stuff to talk about, in my opinion :) please keep it coming!

Such an inspiring video. I was just about to start training when I stumbled upon this. I was in that stage you describe in the video, where Im telling myself that im not good enough and I need to train to get better. And that point of view is actually quite draining. It is so much more fun to start practice from a curious mindset, or to see the training as a chance to express who you are and where you are at right now, as you say. Thank you for sharing - it is very inspiring to hear so much honesty from someone on your level and to get reminded that people on all levels experience doubt and blockage sometimes. It is easy to think that if you just get to this or that level, all of your insecurities will vanish. But again and again it is proven that that is actually not the case. Its not about the level its about enjoying and accepting yourself right where you are, learning to enjoy that moment fully nomatter the level or the outcome of a competition. I will definitely share this!

I went to a 3rd battling event yesterday (Friday 29th November) and I have been “dancing” for a good while recently there have been a few setbacks but this event was different I am only 15 and everyone I talk to about my dance always says the same thing “oh your so young you don’t need to worry you have lots of time” and maybe this is true but in that event I felt like watching other people win does affect jealousy but I felt differently when I danced in a good way I stopped trying to being “the best” or “famous dancers” and just threw most of my combos away on concentrated on feeling and even though I didn’t do any better at least I don’t think I felt way more relaxed and in control. I think the point is how do I become better and control the crowed as well as I did my body and even put my combos and feeling into one moment without making it look like I’m trying to do this, to make it look natural most important feel natural. Thanks you so much for this video my biggest inspiration much love Jacob

Thanks for the talks about mindset Paradox! Ive been struggling with my emotions these past year and i dont even feel like dancing anymore. But i LOVE dancing! It's the only way for me to express my emotions and about myself without talking. Im not a dancer, ive never been to any classes plus my parents and family are against it. But EVERYTIME i listen to any music my mind and my body will move against my will! I just cant sit down and listen to the music, i need to react and answer tp the vibe of the music via dancing. Since i was a kid i was like this. Ive been freestyling for 4 years and rarely learned any choreo. I dont like to follow other people's choreo beccause i just cant feel the freedom on how to express my inner self. Whenever im on a POSITIVE mindset, my dance flow will eventually gets better and i feels like im understanding myself more. It is not cheesy with all you said in the video. It's just totally acurate! Again i would like to thank the dance community all over the world! I love you all and i love this community.I hope to people who are reading this will get through any kind of hardship you are facing successfully! Keep on dancing even head-nodding :D Peace.

I hardly ever comment on KZbin videos...I rarely even click the like button I've seen a few of your ask a Paradox videos.. not all of them I admit... But this is exactly what I've been needing to work on for a while...I try but then I lose motivation and then I watch videos of other dancers and then I try and do their moves to help motivate me a lil more but then it gets boring after a while not gonna lie... Trying to express the way I feel and the person I am is kinda hard when all I know is how to be another dancer... Even the way I dress... So mindset is a key point and I love the way you explain everything coz I'm always nodding my head to the things you say like "yeahp that's exactly what I do 😂😂" thank you Paradox I've been watching your videos for a few years now and watching you grow watching you pull through all your injuries.... I'm from New Zealand and you recently came to New Zealand aswell and I wanted to attend your workshop but at the time I wasn't in the right mindset to attend your workshop because I was a bit scared of change also.... But after watching this video had changed me. Idk how to explain it but it's really awesome to have someone high up in the dance industry to be helping those who aren't really there yet. I appreciate you

I really appreciate the way you put it, the way you see the components of dance as an art that's based on our own life experiences and our own mindset. I dance for 3 years and every day I think about those elements and even though I have to work on my technique I do have the real emotion, the freedom of movement and the ability to appreciate the way I do it and also the way I'm not doing it right. You helped me put into words those things that I've been thinking about , you made them clear to me. Thank you for who you are man and keep inspiring ❤🔥

You are a great teacher Kevin, thank you for this! This is everything I'm struggling with right now: moving and not being conscious of where my body is going or what it is doing. Because of this, it's very hard for me to dance with my eyes open and have people see me without becoming overly conscious or focused on those around me instead of what I'm feeling. Other times, it feels as though the emotion swells up but i'm afraid of what might come out and because I'm not a very technical dancer or have great knowledge of dance, it impedes me from just going for it and allowing whatever wants to come out to be released. Dance is enjoyable, but it's one of the most frustrating things I've ever undertaken in my life (I'm 31 and I've just begun last October.) I'm so far out of my comfort zone. I have my first performance in two weeks and what you were saying about not waiting to take the L really resonates with me. I don't even know what the big picture is because I wouldn't say this is consciously what I decided to or why my soul feels so compelled to go down this route, but I feel it's important to trust the process and not think too much about the destination even though that's counter-intuitive to everything I've done so far in life. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for this video. My Mum watches your videos all the time and it's because of her that I found out about your channel. Keep making great content and keep being amazing. Love my bro!

hey paradox, thanks for making it feel like just a homie to homie talk! the only thing i don't agree with is the fact that this is a cheesy topic hahaha :D but like you said, it's so important. it's like being poor and suddenly having money, without changing your mindset first; you're going to end up poor again unless you change your mindset about using money as a tool vs. as a means to an end (consuming). i might add one other thing: environment is another factor too - like how you set your environment up to do what you set out to do. rather than only watching videos on youtube, dance with other homies and be around other environments that fuel creative energy

What do you do when you burn out from dance? Recently I haven't wanted to dance because the pressures of battling and training got to me. I come from a dance community where there's a lot of pressure to "be good" and "correct" in freestyle. As an extremely competitive person myself it got a bit much. Dance used to be something i naturally gravitated towards because it was the truest expression of life and emotion I had. But now i don't have that desire to dance anymore and I'm trying to get it back. I would love to know if anyone has experienced the same thing?

Can anyone recommend me more channels like this? cuz I'm a beginner dancer and want to learn more on KZbin since I have no money to afford an online course.
