Yes Angel, wrong is wrong no matter who commit the crime… But what Kevin said is true as well, we only notice the ones we care about or keep in our visual. Therefore, those are the ones who get corrected or critiqued. For example: My husband wore a wrinkled shirt to a work party, I immediately noticed and expressed my upset with his raggedy self. He then pointed out another party goers wrinkled pants and my response was “I don’t give a F**k about what they are wearing to notice, I care about you looking good”… I know you like to generalize black people but let me tell you, we support each other 100% all day!!!! Every black film, we show up and show out, we gon make sure that movie become #1 at the box office! Same with music, sports, etc! As hard as this pandemic has hit me and my family we still showin up for Kevin and his app. So we aren’t harder on each other, we just pay attention/support each other so we happen to notice and say “Aye, fix that sh*t please”.

This might be me projecting, but does anyone else feel like Kevin was making a fair point on Beyonce and Angel was not trying to understand it, but was so focused on getting him to understsnd hers? The Black community is not gonna care as much about Lady Gaga doing this because we don’t expect any white person to consider the history of anything that would be offensive to us. Whereas Beyonce has literally said she wants to be a strong representative and put our images out to the world so that we have a bigger presence. Ppl do take HBCU football serious. Nobody’s cares about the actual game. It’s all about tailgating (which starts 2+ hours before the game starts) , seeing the halftime show, & going home. 😂😭

I knew a little something about the awful history of how diamonds are made, but didn't pay much attention until I saw an episode on The Carmichael show where Jerrod bought Maxine a ruby wedding ring instead of a diamond because of the history.

The Basquiat criticism is a bit weird because his estate is actively licensing his art to be put on clothing, shoes, and makeup. Isn't that using his art for capitalism too?
@marcuswainright9523 жыл бұрын
His estate...not Basquiat. Remember his art wasnt worth millions until after he died. Most of the art selling for crazy amounts don't even belong to the estate

I literally saw stuff on Amazon
@SamAjono3 жыл бұрын
@@marcuswainright952 I hear what you are saying. My point was that we can't firmly say that Basquiat was anti-capitalist and would have hated to see his art in the Tiffany campaign. His estate is run by his sisters and stepmother. We can only hope that they are making brand deals that align with their brother/stepson's principles and morals. We can't point fingers at Tiffany or Jay Z & Beyonce without pointing fingers at his estate too.
@marcuswainright9523 жыл бұрын
@@SamAjono I get that. Without knowing him it cant be definitely said what his ideals were, and at the same time we can't just assume that his estate is acting in accordance to his wishes. Prince's estate did not, neither did Michael Jackson's or Whitney Houstons. All did things they would not have allowed.

Beyonce has been touted to be the savior of all africans, just last year people were calling her "mama Africa." When she is the one supposedly pushing the culture forward, of course she's going to get backlash for these gross misdeeds. This was not a win for black africans, what would have been more impactful is her advocating for Tiffany and Co to return the diamonds. She and Jay z are so big they can make these demands, yet they didn't. Their previous advocacy for black africans has always fallen short, repatriation should have been the objective of the photoshoot and would have made the africans that were doubtful of them come around. Also we are in a new age of the internet. media is fast and people are constantly trying to be woke and earn points, so this isn't just cancel culture. The story was supposed to be big, so more people saw it and more people are 'woke" than in 2012 when gaga wore it. Sorry, people were not outraged in 2012, but we are now.

Question, whose idea was it for Bee to wear the diamond in the first place?
@brownhippiex4963 жыл бұрын
That’s the best question, I feel like since she was going to be the first black woman to do it she didn’t think more about it. As someone who is very into fashion just like they are, I feel like she knew but didn’t fix it until the backlash started.
