It’s important to know with Key’s first album he was given a series of choices laid out for him to choose from and decided from those and from his new album he was finally given full creative control from start to finish. He has been conceptualizing his new mini album “Bad Love” for 13-14 years. He had a hand in everything. The styling, writing, and entire concept playing on barbarella and space etc. I also highly recommend checking out the packaging for the mini album because it is genius and so unique. I also recommend checking both his first album “Face” and this new mini “Bad Love” because they are both 2 of the best albums to come out of kpop

omg omg omg I am so happy someone requested key solo work. I'm glad that you liked it & I'm so happy. his entire album is so your style & I hope you listen to it someday (his first album too is amazing and I recommend as well) because it is really so so good. And yes you were right, he has a lot of creative control over his solo concept & music, this comeback especially is 100% him & he had to fight some ppl in sm for it because they wanted him to do another concept, but he always wanted to do full retro-futuristic solo album concept and he did an amazing job with this thank you for reacting to him

YES I'm so happy because Key is my ult and I really think you would enjoy his entire latest album. Key has a lot of features on his first album but he recorded it all on his own first and then felt like it would add something interesting to collaborate. The Japanese version of OOTN is just him. Exactly as you said he is a very sharp dancer, a completely opposite style from Taemin. OOTN and Hate that are actually two of his most slow/melancholic songs, I would say he usually gravitates most to a retro dance or almost 80s rock sound. Wow for Taeyeon in Hate That is right! Some people think it was Little Prince (SHINee have referenced TLP several times previously) imagery with Taeyeon as the Rose on her Asteroid. You would appreciate the album mood sampler for Bad Love I think, it's very Star Trek meets MIB meets camp. I can't overstate how incredible this is, I know you might not usually care about just a teaser but it is such a cinematic work of art and has no overlap with any mvs kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGXXool9eZlkjrc SHINee did a similar thing with their Fake Reality concept trailer before Don't Call Me. The entire mini album has some of the best full sound production I've heard, synth heaven, he really showcases his vocals to the fullest as well. For you I would recommend the b-sides Yellow Tape and Helium. He's actually going to perform 4 of the new songs on music shows this week, he also performed them all at his Beyond Live concert a few days ago and if you want dramatic performances he really delivered, it was by far the most in-person concert experience of any pandemic online concert I've seen.

If you love Bad Love this much I think you'd REALLY love the b-sides from his first solo album, songs like Imagine, This Life, Good Good and Show Me. The album was marketed with some pretty safe singles but the album itself sounds really retro and experimental.

when you said that key was careful with the intensity of ootn, i think you really had a point there. 'face' is an amazing album, but at the same time it feels like it was fully made of safe and careful choices. like it's key, but kind of a soft-edged version of key. while bad love is more out there and it's all him, 100%. anywayss, thank you for this reaction! it was interesting to hear your thoughts

I hope you’ll do full album reactions to Face and Bad Love. Speaking as a Taemin-ult Shawol, Key’s albums are some of my favorite of any music genre, period. They are so carefully crafted and each song is pure gold. Bad Love as an album is more adventurous and avant garde which reflects Key’s increasing confidence in pushing for the sounds and visuals and concept that he wants so he can really express who he is. Bad Love the song just blew me away but the rest of the album is amazing as well. Thanks for the reaction, I hope you’ll check out more of his music! He is criminally underrated.

Key's "One of those Nights" features Crush, a solo Kpop artist who is known for his R&B vocals. Crush is also part of the hip-hop crew Fanxy Child with Zico from Block B and Dean, another solo artist. So a lot of the vocals you hear in this song are not just Key's vocals but also Crush. Some of the amazing vocals you are hearing are Crush singing and he is even the one with the high note in this song. Key's and Crush's voices blend so well together it's almost hard to tell them apart unless you are really listening for the differences. Yes, "One of Those Nights" was one of his solo debut releases. What makes Key's debut solo album and songs unique is that he allowed the featured artists in his songs to take the bridge of the song where most of the time this would be the main singers parts. Key had his solo debut in 2018 right before he went off to serve in the military, so his debut includes his album called Face -- with MVs for his songs "Forever Yours" and "One of Those Nights" -- and his repackaged album I Wanna Be with it's title track "I Wanna Be" MV and his SM Station single "Cold" MV. In between his solo debut album and his repackaged album, he also came out with a Japanese album called Hologram. His current solo album Bad Love is a mini album, which is his second Korean album, third album in total. As Key has mentioned in interviews, although he felt it was time to release his first solo album, the songs on this album and repackage wasn't really a full representation of him as an artist. He said he wasn't ready to show that side of himself yet. So, with his Bad Love album, we will get to see more of an authentic Key with his design and style in the songs. He said his solo debut was so rushed because of his military enlistment date, that he didn't have the time to really make the kind of album that he would have liked. Although Key is an amazing dancer, he did not choreograph any of his solo dances himself. If you watch the behind the scenes of him preparing for his solo debut you will see that he worked with choreographers to come up with the dances. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnOoqXWDmLCXj8U. Key is actually considered SHINee's dance copy machine, which means that he only has to watch pretty much any dance once and he is able to copy the choreography close to perfect. Key is the fastest of the SHINee members to learn a new set of choreography and they say he has it memorized on the first try. Key has a really good memory. He even memorizes all the members parts in SHINee's songs, both the song and dance -- including SHINee's Japanese songs. So he is the one the members go to if they need help remembering a part of the song or dance. You should check out one of Key's girl group dance compilation videos to see just how good he is at copying dances. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ep-9d2yIqKl5eas (This compilation video, "key girl group dance(new version)" isn't really new any more, but it is one of the best examples of just how good he is.) Or his perfect random dance skills on an episode of Weekly Idol where he was actually promoting his solo debut. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5mpl5mgjpmYars -- here is a link to the full episode with English subs. Fun fact: All of SHINee's members' debut albums have one word titles and they all rhyme. Taemin's Ace, Jonghyun's Base, Onew's Voice and Key's Face. The joke within the fandom is that Minho's first solo album will probably be named Race because of his well known love of sports and his need to always win and to always push himself to be the best. The members have said the reason why they deliberately name their first solo album in this way is to show everyone that no matter what they do they are always a group and SHINee is very important to them. It's a way for the members to show their solidarity as SHINee even when doing solo projects.

Yess! Thank you for reacting to Key. He's so talented and well-rounded. More people should really listen to his works! Btw what really impressed me with his debut work is the collaborations. Not the number of artists he featured, rather the way they were showcased. Each of them were given room to show their artistry which really elevated the songs they were on.

"Bad Love" is straight out of classic '80s - rock ballad/ electro-rock/ dance-pop. However, it mixes in '60s, '70s era sci-fi elements. If you like the sci-fi retro theme in Key's "Bad Love" MV -- and you want to understand the storyline more -- if you haven't already, you should check out his "Bad Love Mood Sampler" video -- it's a teaser video that came out a few days before Bad Love's release. Now, that video is straight out of a '50s or '60s sci-fi TV show or movie and the storyline is connected to SM's Universe concept. Which will make all the campy-cool space images in the "Bad Love" MV make a lot more sense. As with everything SM does, it's all connected, so you have to take into consideration the storylines in Key's other MVs, as well as all of SM's other group MVs, etc. in order to really understand the storyline in any of its groups' MVs. For example, the space theme in "Bad Love" is connected to Key's "Hate That ..." MV, as well as pretty much all of SM's main storylines in all of its groups' MVs. The overall theme in SM's SM Culture Universe is all about space and other worlds, etc. Key said his style is more of the retro '80s/'90s MTV, so that's the treatment they used to come up with his comeback concept. As you may know, Key is our fashionista of the group, who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits. He is known for really paying attention to detail when it comes to fashion. To Key, fashion is about being unique and looking for ways to stand out, without being outrageous. So everything you see him wearing will be very trendy and fashion forward. Key can pretty much wear anything -- time and time again, he has shown that the fashion styles and clothing that would often look ridiculous or just average on most people, when he wears it, always looks high fashion and cool. That same thing could be said about all the members of SHINee, with their own unique styles. Many people in the industry look to Key when it comes to fashion trends. That's also why SM has made him its director of fashion. Key is friends with several big name designers. With SHINee's experimental concept, the group is also known for creating fashion trends, so designers really covet a chance to work with any of the members of SHINee -- but especially Key -- because SHINee will give them street cred and undoubtedly make them more popular. Key is also known as SHINee's dance copy machine. He has the ability to see and remember choreography the fastest in the group. He only needs to watch the dance once and he has it memorized. And on top of all of that, he is SHINee's fluent English speaker, and he is almost as good as a native speaker. That is why his pronunciation of the English lines in his songs are so crisp and clear. That is also why he specifically included the song "Helium" on his Bad Love album, which is all in English for his international fans. As a member of SHINee, Key's amazing vocal range and dance skills shouldn't be surprising, that's just what the members of SHINee are known for. Not only is Key an amazing singer, but he is also one of SHINee's rappers. How often do you see a rapper with that type of vocal range? That's why SHINee are so highly respected in the industry because almost no one can do it the way SHINee does it. As SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, everything SHINee does is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last -- including the members solo work -- so you will never hear the same style or sound from Key in any of his songs, even on the same album, and yet, somehow it will always be very Key-like. The industry looks to the members of SHINee to show them what the next song style and dance trend will be. When any of the members of SHINee does something, the industry takes note and follows suit. SHINee has started the trend with almost everything -- with every one of their songs to their dances to clothing trends, to live performances, to the way Kpop is promoted -- there is almost nothing that can't be attributed to something SHINee has been involved in. And Key's solo work is no exception.

You’re right about him having hands in all of his solos. Even though with his earlier songs, he had less creative freedom than his most current album, he really tried to have as much input in it as possible and like you said, you can see it because there’s intention in everything. He has a thing for space if you can’t tell. :P

Hate That ..." is a pre-release single, from Key's second Korean solo album Bad Love. So, here is my theory about what I think is happening in the MV. Some people have said they think Key was hitting a self-destruct button which caused his spaceship to carean out of control -- referencing how his life is self-destructing after the breakup -- but I interpret it more as he is pressing the button to disengage his space capsule from the rocket boosters, etc. which is what is keeping him up there in space and on a perpetual orbit of the Earth. So, when he hits the button we see the capsule detach from the rest of the ship and fall back down to Earth, where we then see him back on Earth with Taeyeon. (He is crash landing back to reality and is no longer allowing himself to orbit in the realm of living in the past and allowing himself to continue to obsess over the relationship.) Just to clarify, the words of the song are meant to be self-loathing. They say, "I hate that I hate that you're happy without me." So Key and Taeyeon are saying that they hate that they can't stop themselves from hating their ex just because that person is happy without them. So in other words, they are saying, we had a perfect breakup and it should have been easy, but "I hate that I still can't get over you and that I still love you. ... I wish you were in as much pain as I am right now," etc. They are saying that they are wishing or "praying" that their ex would regret breaking up with them because they wish their ex was having just as hard of time getting over them as they are. Key says I love you once in the song because he is only allowing himself to admit that he still loves them, once. It's like he can no longer hold back the fact that no matter how much he knows the breakup was for the best, he reluctantly has to admit that he still loves them. Fun fact: The song was originally wrote by Charlie Puth. At the end of the MV we see what looks like Taeyeon being rescued from the rock that she has been trapped on in the middle of the ocean. (The rock representing a rough, unforgiving place that is extremely uncomfortable, etc. in the middle of the cold desolate ocean all alone with nowhere to go.) Which I see as her being pulled out of that dark place. And as the news report on the TV screen says, "Breaking News: Woman rescued after ..." We don't know what comes after the word after because it's up to us all to decide how we choose to live our lives after a breakup, each individual person fills in the blank with their own idea of what "after" looks like. Key and Taeyeon are best friends and they have a sibling relationship -- often referred to as the Kim siblings -- so they are most definitely not portraying that they were in a relationship together. (That would just be kind of weird. LOL) As they mentioned during their VLive event before the premier of the MV, in the story they are talking about two separate relationships and going through their own experiences. Or portraying different sides of the same person. I see the story as way more metaphorical than just a simple breakup story, it's more like Taeyeon and Key are comizerating with each other because they understand what each other is going through. As you may know,Taeyeon is the leader and main vocalist of Girls' Generation, also under SM Entertainment, who debuted in 2007 -- about a year before SHINee. She is considered one of the best female vocalists in Korea and is one of the most popular female solo artists as well. Taeyeon is really close with all the members of SHINee. She has also collaborated with Jonghyun in his song "Lonely" and Taemin's recent song "If I Could Tell You" which is on his Advice album. We're just waiting for her collab with Onew on his next album (wink, wink ... hoping Onew and Taeyeon are listening ;D) and with Minho when he makes his solo debut. On a side note: As with everything that SM Entertainment does, it's been designed to all connect. All of SM's groups' concepts and MV storylines connect together and it's all part of one giant Universe and story that started in 2012 with EXO's debut. Everything that SM does is another chapter in their story, like a graphic novel or mystery movie series, and if you want to really follow the full story you have to pay attention to even the most minute of details with everything any of its groups or artists are involved in. So the story never ends. So, I think that with all the imagery of space in the "Hate That ..." MV, that at least a few scenes, if not the whole MV, also connects in someway to SM's SM Culture Universe larger storyline. I see the space theme not only connected to SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV, but also to their "I Want You" MV from 2018 and Key's "Forever Yours" solo debut MV also from 2018, among several of SM's other groups' MVs. I have a feeling that "Hate That ..." might connect to another part of SM's storyline, either with parts of the story in a past MV, or even things might become more clear in the future as this story connects to upcoming MVs, etc. As I am always reminding people, when it comes to SM content, if something reminds you of something else or you see similarities between something in one MV to something in another MV, than it was most likely done on purpose. Because pretty much everything SM does is connected, and nothing the company does is random. For example, I see obvious similarities between Taeyeon's red dress and black boots and Key's red outfit and black boots in SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV -- the red is a very specific shade of red -- and the way she is standing on the rock in the middle of the ocean is very similar to the way that Key was standing on the submerged phone booth in "Don't Call Me," which I see as being connected to SM's Universe storyline. And some have even pointed out that the canister you see break a hole through Key's space capsule and land next to Taeyeon in the water -- which is the same can we see on the table in front of Key when he is sitting in the diner, etc. -- could be a reference to the soda can we see Key holding in SHINee's "Atlantis" MV, etc. (However, I'm not yet sure whether Key brought the can from "Atlantis," or if the can magically appears in his hand in "Atlantis" because it is coming from its original location in "Hate That ...") So, because of this, I think people need to pay attention to all of the storylines with all of SM's groups, because I think at least all of SM's third generation groups' MVs and storylines -- and probably even now their 4th gen groups with the introduction of aespa last year -- are being designed to connect stories and plots. Each group has their own individual storyline and concept, but when you put them all together, there are threads of connections between the groups. And that includes SuperM, EXO, Red Velvet, NCT/WayV, aespa, and maybe even Taemin's solo work, and possibly even SHINee. Even though SHINee are second generation, they actually fit within the age group of third generation groups, so they sort of bridge that gap between 2nd and 3rd gen. And although most of SM's older groups' concepts and MVs may have never been originally designed to have any type of connection to anything to do with anything, that doesn't necessarily mean that over the years as EXO's story has evolved or SM's Universe concept was being created, that SM didn't find "happy coincidences" within those MVs that allowed them to use them as a way to connect things together. For example, some have pointed to the fact that NingNing's butterfly in aespa's concept from 2020 could be connected to the butterfly in EXO's debut"Mama" MV from 2012, and some have even made compelling arguments that it could even be connected to SHINee's butterfly in "Ring Ding Dong" from 2009. Or the blue roses we see in Taemin's "Press Your Number" MV from 2016 may be connected to EXO's flower/blue rose concept, etc. Now I'm not completely convinced that SM would reach back that far, but it makes you question and consider things. :D I mean, we see what looks like the pink planet from Super Junior's recent "House Party" MV and a scene from Super Junior-K.R.Y.'s "When We Were Us" MV in "aespa's ep.1 - SM Culture Universe" video. And SM has even brought Kangta, who is a member of the very first Kpop boy group H.O.T., who debuted in 1996, into the storyline with his most recent solo MV remake of H.O.T's song "Free to Fly." So it's starting to look like SM may be hinting at bringing everyone into the storyline, including their older groups and artists. However, you should also know that no one really knows what is happening for sure in SM's Universe storyline. It's all fan theories and educated guesses. SM has never confirmed nor denied any of our theories and they have never explained anything. They have left it up to the fans to interpret the story and connect the pieces. And what makes this even more difficult is the story isn't being told in chronological order, so as fans you have to pay attention to everything and remember what you have seen and heard in previous content in order to decide where each piece fits within the larger storyline. And it's not just MVs, but it's with everything they do including teaser videos, concert VCRs (short videos played at concerts in between sets), live performances, song lyrics, online content released by SM, special extras included when you purchase an album, etc. It's super complex and all encompassing.

Ok…2 points. I really enjoyed your reaction. It’s clear you understand music production, and you have a very good ear for detail. HOWEVER… how can you create a Kpop KZbin channel if you don’t really know about Kpop artists? ‘You only just discovered Shinee’ ? You only recently ‘dived into Taeyoung’ ? You don’t know who CRUSH is? Like dude… seriously? KZbin is full of ‘Kpop experts’ who literally know BTS and Blackpink but know absolutely nothing about the ICONIC groups that paved the way for Kpop to grow internationally. Knowing a handful of 4th Gen groups doesn’t make you a Kpop Stan. It’s makes you a newbie. My advice…. Do some homework. It’s like having a KZbin channel called POP PRINCESS without knowing who Britney Spears is.

It's based off my list name. Try being a little bit less insufferable and gatekeeping, then maybe someone will take an interest in the groups you like.
