I love that you guys are digging Gojira so much. They're so refreshing. A distinct lack of traditional guitar soloing and an obsessive dedication to the groove, bludgeoning heaviness, and melody is such a winning formula that they pull off like almost no one else.

To understand the Song you need to listen to the whole Album, as it is its own Story. In the Story Humans come from a different Planet, Sirius, and were sent here by entities from Sirius. Unfortunately humans ruin the Earth and need to find a way to save it. So they ask the Flying Whales for help. The flying whales teach humans how to fly and the humans fly off to Sirius to ask the entities for help with saving the earth. The last song on the Albumthen basically isa warning to not let it get as far with the real earth.

Guys! A little bit of the story behind the album. _From Mars to Sirius_ is a concept album that relates the resurrection of a dead planet through an interplanetary quest, tackling environmental issues as well as broader themes of life, death, and rebirth. Explaining the meaning behind the album title, Joe Duplantier (vocals and guitars) said that "In some cultures, Mars symbolizes war and Sirius peace. I'm simplifying! It is a journey of a state of war, even if in France we are preserved, but it can be a war within us, in our flesh, in our mind, a war with ourselves". (From the Wikipedia page of the album)

I grew to enjoy different genres of Metal but honestly my interest and love for it grew stangnent for an extended period of time. Gojira has brought the love back, so much fire and depth to thier music. It's great to see others hear them for the first time and grow to love and appreciate the greatness of this band.

Yeah I saw that one. I decided to show one of their more atmospheric songs to my drummer and he hated it and it turned him off to them. So I was worried that was going to happen here.
@waterguyroks6 жыл бұрын
Not Important Yeah it's weird, I find that most of the time they'll be honest and say they straight up didn't like the song, though they always try to find something positive to say either way. But other times it's so clear that they're just pretending to enjoy it so as to not offend the band/the fanbase. I get it though, it's probably a lot of pressure knowing your videos are going to be seen by tens of thousands. I appreciate that they have a different perspective than I do on a lot of songs I'm very familiar with, particularly lyrically. And they they know what they're talking about a lot of the time, they're good listeners. They usually pick out what is unique about a particular artist which, if you've ever tried to play a metal or prog song to someone who doesn't listen to that kind of music, you'll know is not a common feat.

From Mars to Sirius is a concept album that relates the resurrection of a dead planet through an interplanetary quest, tackling environmental issues as well as broader themes of life, death, and rebirth.[2] Explaining the meaning behind the album title, Joe Duplantier said in an interview that "In some cultures, Mars symbolizes war and Sirius peace. No idea when Gojira is touring near you again since they were in vegas in august last year: www.setlist.fm/setlist/gojira/2017/the-joint-at-hard-rock-hotel-las-vegas-nv-3e55533.html

They're touring Australia and Europe this year, so you guys will have to wait at least until fall for them to come around the States again. But I agree, you guys should definitely go see a metal show, get the feel for the atmosphere, it changes when you're there, soaking in the energy. You guys are bona fide metalheads now, it's been fun to watch you become fans. What you're seeing and hearing and liking in Gojira, that's how it starts. You start knowing what to look for, what you do and don't like, you notice nuance that just got lost in the noise before, and you start to like it. Shop around, find it elsewhere, and welcome to the club!

This is so cool. You guys are more insightful about some of the song meanings than I am after years of listening to Gojira! Highly recommend "The Art of Dying" as your next Gojira song!
@RichHeart896 жыл бұрын
I've been listening to Ocean Planet ever since it came out and I've never thought of the whales to just seem like flying because of the sea level reaching so high that they essentially swim in the sky. The theme of Global warming and mankind drowning the world is easy to pick up from any of these tracks but they got the whales better than I ever did :D

Ethan Byrne It took me a while to get into Magma, but there are some absolute killer songs on that album. Silvera, Stranded, The Cell, Pray (holy hell that breakdown is heavy). It’s different from their previous 3 albums, but it’s still Gojira.

I remember when I first heard Gojira and it was Flying Whales. were three phases: 1 - I fell in love for the beginning and the whole part of the whales singing. 2 - I started liking the guitar riff at the beginning and I hated the vocals. 3 - I started to love the whole song. After all this, I became a Gojira fan. Obviously, i went through other songs like Oroborus and became hypnotized by the Mario's drums

@Lamont the song came out years ago and I'm shocked that I've only recently heard it. Its supposedly from an rumored album they've been working on for years and years to benefit the Sea Shephard Conservation Society which is an organization that helps to preserve Marine wildlife. We know they've done some work on it, as evidenced by this song, but who knows if the album is ever actually going to get released. It's been pretty hush hush but if it ever gets released I'm sure it's gonna be phenomenal
@thomaskovacs9866 жыл бұрын
@@m00n_g0d im late but they actually recorded the whole thing but they somehow lost the hard drives and didn't have the time or funds to re-record it. The only reason we have Of Blood and Salt is that it was released before the rest of the album was deleted as a single.

Prog metal bands like Gojira and Meshugguh use the screaming as a gutteral instrument, along with the regular instruments, instead of just normal vocals. Its a "progressive" way to add another instrument.
