RV Pro Tips: How To change Your Entryway Locks

In this RV Pro Tips tutorial video, we will show you how to replace your entryway locks in your RV.
Whether your lock assembly has stopped working properly or you are looking to have matching keys for both front and back doors, after today’s episode, you will be able to replace the entry door lock assembly on your own.
To get started, let’s remove the screws from the interior part of the entry door lock assembly. This step can be done using a screw gun with a #2 Philips bit or a screw driver. Most standard Entry lock assemblies will have 4 screws that need to be removed.
Once all screws are removed, the interior assembly portion and screws should be placed to the side for later use.
Now remove the 2 screws in the striker cover. The entry door lock assembly can be easily removed from the outside of the entry door by turning the lock assembly slightly and removing the striker portion from the cut out in the entry door frame.
When installing the new lock assembly, make sure to clean around the cut out so that we have a good seal between the new lock assembly, and the entry door.
When the new lock assembly is installed, make sure that you try out the lock and keys before shutting the door. You do not want to end up in a situation where you are locked out of your RV.
Should the lock assembly you purchased not match the RV’s original equipment, you will need to consult with the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer to find the aftermarket part needed.

What about the rear lock assembly which doesn’t have a way of unlocking it from the inside? How do you replace it if you loose your keys?

How do I make it so my door will close easily from the inside. I struggle with the door every time.

My door is not locking when closed. It functions when the door is open. The opening on the camper side looks like a big hole, can that side be repaired so my lock works?

The hole cutout on the 2020 Montana 3930 I have is huge, and doesn’t accommodate any other rv locks. Do you have any recommendations without buying an entirely different door?

Not sure if they are standard but we've got a '21 Bullet 250BHS and looking to install a keyless entry which requires: Required cutout dimensions: 2-3/4" tall x 3-3/4" wide Distance from door edge: 1-1/8" Minimum door thickness: 1-7/16"

Good afternoon, we are so sorry for the delayed response on our part. From what we can tell without a VIN it’s very likely you have a Lippert door. The lock/latch comes preinstalled on the door so we don’t have those specifications unfortunately. We went on Lippert's website and found a hyperlink that will assist you.
