The SBC hobbyist in me screams "I want". Took a little digging and confirmed the 4060ti is the 8gb variant, which is fine for the kind of games I play. Would of been nice to of future proofed by simply offering the 16gb VRAM option though. Anyone already paying that much for a GPU dock probably won't care paying a little more for more VRAM imo. My 4D chess move would have been to also include a full size NVME slot on the external GPU dock seeing as the 4060 only uses half the data lanes. You can google for and see the concept of a company showing an RTX 4060 discrete GPU and it having (on the back of the card) an NVME slot so it can be done. All said and done prolly a non issue. I mean if you have the sort of money to blow on a toy like this then you likely have a NAS for storage already anyway. Failing that you could use cloud storage options also.

The 256 GT/s is the theoretical maximum speed of the mind-link port (as it's basically PCIe 5.0), but the Mind doesn't support that speed because it only has a PCIe 4.0 CPU. 64 is the limit.

Looks really sleek. The Mind link connector is interesting as it opens up a lot of possibilities. Whether they will materialize remains to be seen. Will Mind link open up or lock you in as it will likely only work with what Khadas provides? As for portability, not so sure of the usefulness as screen and keyboard needs to be added unless you have a set at your destination. If they're not brought along it will limit productivity while in transit. 10 years ago I downsized from a laptop to an 8 inch tablet with telephone capability; used it with a pocket sized foldable bluetooth keyboard, and most of the storage in the cloud. That worked pretty well.

$899 for the Khadas Mind PRO i7-1360p (4P 8E cores/16 threads (don't know how intel calculates this)); Intel Xe Graphics; 32GB 5200 LPDDR5; 1TB PCIe 4.0 2230 SSD - Windows 11 Home or $699 for the Minisforum UM790PRO Ryzen 9 7940HS (8 cores/16 threads); Radeon 780M Graphics; 32GB 5600 LPDDR5; 1TB PCIE4.0 2280 SSD - Windows 11 PRO I mean to anyone with a brain the answer is clear.
@jorper2526
@jorper2526 9 ай бұрын
They calculate it because the P cores support hyperthreading.. so 2 threads per P core. 1 thread per E core. I will say it's a little funny that someone who doesn't know "how Intel calculates this" would then say that "to anyone with a brain, the answer is clear". While I don't disagree, the minisforum is significantly larger and only does USB 4.0/TB4. You lose PCI-E bandwidth for an egpu, and thus performance. Point is, they are very different systems with pros and cons. So don't act like you have all the answers when you don't understand the underlying technology. ;)

@@jorper2526 Minisforum is significantly cheaper, the Khadas docks themselves are priced very high, and let's be honest aside from the I/O dock all the docks are an even more niche market as those mini PCs are and you might as well just get a much cheaper USB dock from 3rd party if you need more i/o. I know how Intel "calculates" their multi-threading but it makes no sense, because the E cores are not multi-threading, and are for the lack of the a better word - worse - than normal cores in any production application, outside of benchmarking they are morsel of benefit. I would much rather have full cores, or the future AMD approach of giving you cores with less cache but are still supporting multi-threading. For my use cases the 1360P is a 4C/8T CPU + 8E Cores that have little use. Intel marketing is at its finest since decades, they also like to list TDP of their CPUs when they idle, when they actually have occupancy we know what they actually pull from the wall socket. So yeah, just because intel says it says 16 threads does not mean it has 16 threads. It has 8 threads and 8 E cores maybe running in your application or even bottlenecking your application. This Khadas Mind is a boutique mini PC with no real use, because nobody will invest $1000+ in that platform that will be obsolete in a year time alongside with the docking system as it isn't a standard but proprietary. When they bring out new products, the docking will be changed, and we can start all over. You can even get the UM790PRO with 64GB of LPDDR5 5600 and still pay less, so the Khadas Mind & Mind PRO make no sense in the market what so ever.
@jorper2526
@jorper2526 9 ай бұрын
$179 for the base dock is pretty much in line with a new tb4/usb4 docks that provide power. The dock also has speakers, fingerprint reader and the pc just sits on top of it. It's an elegant solution. I doubt they are going to change the entire docking system. They want to build an ecosystem. The graphics one is $600. That is expensive, but it is a docking station + gpu and you can use it as a docking station for other devices. Price isn't terrible considering the cost of buying an external gpu enclosure + gpu. As for the intel cores... I mean that's great if thats your feelings on it. You clearly are not arguing with in good faith by saying you know how it's calculated, then go on to shit on e-cores like they are completely useless, which is patently false. Can you even explain how "threading" works? I think you have some baseline misconceptions. And are mixing up "multi-threading" and "hyperthreading". They are not the same. Now, to be fair to you, you did say "for my use case". That's a great first step. You can make your own decisions on what you value in a device. Just as others are. If this is how passionate you feel about Khadas I would love to hear your Apple rant. But again people value different things. People are allowed to like different things. I think the solution is pretty elegant and powerful enough for most people.
