Great video as usual. I really like this asymetric build because it avoids the problem that most other ssfpc cases have in that size range: They typically put the motherboard and the PSU on the back of the GPU in order to achieve a single symmetrical package as compact as possible. But that means having the back fan of the GPU blowing hot air against the PSU in a very tight space, which is bad for both the PSU and the GPU. This design solves the problem and it is still equally portable (just transport your gear in several small packages rather than a single big one, which at the end of the day are also easier to fit in your backpack or suitcase rather than squeezing a bigger single box. For maximum portability I would suggest to use it with a smaller GPU, a pico psu and external 20V power brick, such as the SlimQ 240W

A few years ago, I found a mini itx case that was a double din car dash form factor and had a built in 7in touch screen. I put a i7 6700k in it with 32gb of ram and a 500gb m.2 nvme and was going to have it be an all in one machine for my car. Navigation, weather, voice search using Cortana, and gaming. I had a sweet interface setup with RainMeeter and ended up buying a pico-like psu that was a 250 watt smart DC to DC PSU so I could hook it straight to the cars 12v line. After I was about ready to install, I realized this thing was stronger than my current desktop and all I needed was to add a GPU so I scrapped the car PC and just put all the parts into my desktop case. I still have the mini itx double din case and screen along with the PSU for it and would love to set something like that up, but I suffer from the issue of there is always better hardware and I can never decide on something.

BUT when I need to do 4K 3D CAD renderings for my work, I Absolutely NEED a Dedicated Graphics Card for the 4K Renderings for my clients especially when they want to view the work via 4K VR Goggles. If you will definitely add an external GPU, buy this model. You don't need to wait for the 6000 series APU, since the iGPU won't beat the external GPU anyway. If an external GPU is not a definitely yes, you might consider to wait for the future upgrade to 6000 series APU.

hi, quick question: I’m trying to run this with an eGPU off of 2 DC power bricks. Is it possible to not plug in the 10 pin and 4 pin, and then run the PC off of its normal brick, and the GPU off of a separate power supply?

Must say, this is quite the novel and better approach than the Intel NUC offering. While it's nice that the new whatever-canyon they have can support 3080s all day long in a standalone package, and does make it slightly more elegant of a solution. I like that you can remove the graphics card, have a portable Emulation beast, plug it in and have a gaming beast. What an inventive solution than relying on Thunderbolt. Edit: Only complaint, those USB 3 ports should be 20Gbs offerings.

! For some reason I like these mini PCs as well. My daily driver is a MacBook Pro I have an a stand closed up and I have a curved 27 inch monitor. I work from home and do zoom calls and basic stuff. I’m not in the game in at all but lately I’ve been really into these gaming computers just because the way they look. Right now I have a 12 year old all in one PC on my credenza that barely works and I’d like to replace it and have a back up for my MacBook Pro. The only gaming I can envision is Microsoft flight simulator 2020 because I’m a pilot. I’m a private pilot not a commercial pilot. I don’t know if you would have any suggestions on the most powerful mini PC for flight Sim? Maybe something like this with an external GPU. And honestly I think it looks cool with the external GPU sitting out there. Thanks for the video

Cherry on top would be support for full sized desktop RAM that can run up to 4933MT/s At about 4600MT/s the lack of cache compared to a 5700x is almost entirely gone, and at 4933 it can sometimes be faster than 57/5800x Note that over 4600 i cannot get the integrated GPU to work properly if the MCLK/FCLK/UCLK are all in 1:1:1 with gear1, to get the GPU to work at 4933/5000 i need to run the MCLK:FCLK:UCLK at 2:1:1. The CPU itself will run fine at 1:1:1, but i have to disabled the iGPU in the BIOS

Honestly, just have the eGPU dock house a sfx PSU like the PICO in it's base or something so as not to create clutter and this would be perfect. I see this as the future.

Amazing job from minisforum. This one is best alternative to gaming pc

This is were the whole PC industry needs to move towards. multi mode device ecosystems. but the phone needs to be part of it. almost like a CPU + CPU dock with GPU treat the phone as the e-core, have the P-core in the Dock and GPU as a pcie interface....

Really nice setup! Great content as always ETA. But other than being cool, what would the benefit of this be over a comparable laptop? Even as great as it is, I just don't think I could justify it for myself.

I'm curious. I have a recording booth in my home where I do voice-over work on Fiverr. Ideally I should keep my desktop PC outside the booth but that is simply not possible with my setup. So I have some PC fan noise to contend with now and then. How quiet are these mini pcs? Recommendations for a Windows based mini pc with AMD inside? A mini pc might also be great alternative to a laptop for recording while on-the-road. An Ideal mini pc for VO work should have at least 32gig of ram, a large ssd hard drive, and extremely low noise.

i hope in the future, it isn't just a dock, but SFF case, and the mini-PC is the NUC that can be attached/detached at will...

I believe the 5700G, unless expressly stated in the mini pc board spec, is the PCIE version limiting component as it supports 3.0 max.
@acejon21622 жыл бұрын
Yes, the 5700 CPU only supports upto version 3.0. Should not be a problem though as the 3080 will not be bottlenecked by 3.0.

Great video. Thanks a million for your hard work. I think this is a bit late, because the Deskmeet x300 has space for a small but full hight GPU. Even though its not out yet, I think its looks a little more elegant. thanks again. blessings

Out of the many many mini PC you have tested ETA PRIME. Curious if you could point me in the right direction of one that could work as a low powered plex, Sonarr media center. Something running 24/7. Not a big fan of the raspberry pie I got.
@JeffMcJunkin2 жыл бұрын
Have you tried non-APU processors as well when combined with a discrete GPU? A 5800X3D (even at 65w) would be super compelling for this build; it certainly wouldn't bottleneck most any GPU at that point.

Do you get to keep each pc you review or do you need to return them to the manufacturer after each review?

Hi, I'm new to pretty much everything that happens inside the computer, just wanted to know how this would do for digital art, I think the biggest thing for me would be memory/storage and how to upgrade that if needed. Thanks
