Putting parents at the end of the first sentence still leaves the very strong possibility that your pet hamster is called Mahatma Gandhi.

I'm a serial comma guy. I was wondering why everyone seems to call a serial comma an Oxford comma. Please tell me the English language hasn't started selling the naming rights for its punctuation. (The day I have to end a sentence with a Snickers Period is the day I start learning Esperanto.)

I don't think the name Oxford is related to a brand in any way, it's just a name

It refers to the Oxford Style Manual which requires the final comma. Not surprisingly the same style is used by the Oxford University Press

If you need to remove or add an oxford comma to make a sentence work, more likely than not you have a bad sentence.

What if I added a 3rd person? I want to thank my friends, Even and Rick. I want to thank my friends, Even, Rick, and Hillary. Is the second one also correct?

I would use a colon though I’m not 100% sure it’s “correct”. It probably depends who you ask. But clearly even going by the book can lead you into disputed waters. Ultimately you need to make your own style by taking a stand and being willing to be wrong.

I have solved this dilemma by using the ampersand. “I’d like to thank my parents, Mahatma Gandhi & my pet hamster.” This way, if you wanted to say your parents were Gandhi and the hamster, you’d use a colon.

For the second sentence, if you didn't put the oxford commas in, David said that it would be saying that Elvis was a tiny Norwegian harpist but in order for the sentence to say that, wouldn't you have to put the" a tiny Norwegian Harpist"part in brackets? I may be wrong...I'm not completely sure though....

brackets are often seen as informal, aside from citations, so often they are replaced by commas or my favourite English punctuation--the em dash.

Even without the Oxford comma, it seems you can still understand "...Elvis, a tiny Norwegian harpist and Frida Kahlo." as to mean that Elvis is a tiny Norwegian harpist though. Am I wrong?

and even that Elvis is both a tiny Norwegian harpist and Frida Kahlo (if Elvis was a band it could make sense).

Technically no because when you put a comma, you separate different events. You list things when you use Oxford commas. Ex-I found quarters, dimes and nickels in the couch the other day

They don't understand one of the functions of the conjunction "and". And connects words but it also acts as a pause in speech thus no comma is needed.
