I hate to correct Legend, but the Sandstorm Vortex is not random. Every time I cast this spell it immediately heads for my healthiest infantry unit. You can still make use of this, just cast the sandstorm where it has to go through the enemy to get to you. It'll carve a straight line towards you, worry not.

It still annoys me to no end that CA has castrated the starting armies of so many LLs. I somewhat get why they took Settra's Sphinx away, but Khatep's Hierotitan was what made his early game so interesting.

Maybe just me, but I (almost) always disbanded expensive units like that straightaway. You don’t need them and they cost a bomb of upkeep which wrecks your early game economy. (Not tomb kings obv where upkeep is free - talking more generally)

Khatep could've kept the Hierotitan Settra's a beast and has chariots and tomb guard Arkhan starts off with access to vampire units, which outlcass tomb kings units of the same tier Khalida starts with a unit of ushabti greatbows and a screaming skull catapult. At the very least, start him off with units thematic to the mortuary cult and a roaming exile. Give him cavalry, hell give him the carrion he had in his Warhammer 2 starting army

For some reason I just really get along with Khatep. His weird, lonely start, trying to reconnect with Settra etc. It works out nicely. Not the easiest lord to work out but I also just really like him as a wizard and as an artillery Lord. Not that many of those in the game. Cheers.

Good thing to note for early Khatep, because his faction effect is also +2 lichpriests, you can immediately recruit 2 more on turn 1. Having 3 different lichpriests, with bonus experience gained, right away is very powerful.

Haven’t finished the video, but just a heads up, the -25% cost for mortuary cult items does not seem to work past the first purchase for dynasties (source: ElichTV’s stream).

Also worth pointing out the value of it is questionable in terms of how many armies are possible from it because even if it did work correctly, how often are you getting to the stage where you've completed the tech tree capacity for armies and you're relying on A New Dynasty to increase your capacity? Most campaigns are pretty much over in 75 turns or less if you're going for a short campaign victory (which I honestly find underwhelming). Even on a long campaign victory goal, I don't think you'll get close to those conditions. I think the jar cost reduction is valuable for mortuary cult magic items and unlocking TK mortuary cult special units and being able to access A New Dynasty sooner and more regularly but unless you're doing full map completion you might never see a situation where you're relying entirely on this ability to get more armies.

You can also cycle all the tomb king heroes every turn till you get the ones you want. I always made every Tomb Prince "trustworthy" giving them diplomatic bonuses. Ended up straight vassalizing Malakith and Helebrond. Even Alarielle was open to being a vassal by trading her a settlement, which was strange. But now Khatep leads the High Elves, and the Dark Elves.

Some advices I can give for Khatep: 1. The Lich capacity is (IMO) a bit more important than it might sound, because you can get all those Lich Priest right away, put them in Khatep's army, level them fast due to Khatep's trait and unlock the Canopic Jar skill with any lich priest that you manage to unlock. 2. I recommend rushing the Herald Empowered research at the far right of the Tomb King research tree, as it accelerates Global Recruitment AND give you an additional army. The only "downside" is that you need to spend a lot of jars, but as mentioned before you can get the Canopic Jar rolling early for liches in Khatep's army, and you can get a reliable amount of jars from fighting. 3. The neighboring book of Nagash in the rogue army is NOT easy to get, don't even plan around getting it with only basic units, I think only Legend could manage that fight in early game.

I had fun with this campaign, the Casket mount helped me a lot. As you said, Grombrindal was my best friend (kill Valkia quick PLEASE) and Sister somehow accepted me. The problem was when I found a book of Nagash that revealed the High Elves who immediatelly decided to send every force against me for no reason other than killing Malekith an his friends. Can't trust the knife ears.

The Liche Priest capacity and his personal +xp for heroes definitely leans towards recruiting them early, and getting them leveled up through his army, so when you do get more army capacity, you already have more powerful mages to help get them off the ground.

Khatep is probably one of the hardest and grindiest campaign i ever done in legendary and i've done many painful campaigns ( kugath, imrik ) 90 % of north america is basicaly orange so you get huge penalties that will significantly slow your empire progression with repercussions even in late game weither or not you do well and be proactive, especialy painful since despite get buffed in tww3, TK eco is still very slow at the beginning so extra time for buildings is very painful for TK. The map is full of mountains with shit line of sight, narrow corridors and you take so much time to go travel from settlement to another, making you very vulnerable to harrassement. Nobody likes you and WILL declare war on you sooner or later facing very potent ennemies and/or powerful counter of TK. Grombrimgal will be smashed before turn 30 by Valkia and/or Malekith and as soon as you reach minor ogres at north east, MAlekith will def focus on you hard despite being at war with Valkia thanks to AI bias. Kathep faction sucks at dealing vs single entities early ( i recommend taking death lich priest turn 1 ) you can basicaly get wiped by orcs lords if you let them stonk and is super vulnerable to disrupt effect like vortexes and winds spells or invocations and Malekith have busted magic spam + valkia will spam fire shit that will decimate your armies by the time you'll face her. You must also prepare for a war vs high elves because they always end to unify the donuts and by that time, their eco stonk hard and their roster is basicaly stronger than yours. Tyrion and Alarielle will spam armies making Normandy landings pathetic and declare war on you with dragons and other OP shits so you better get lots of ushabtis and anti large before 70-80 ish. To give you an insight , no less than 12 armies (alarielle+tyrion) , including a doomstack of 6 stellar dragons + 3 other dragons were near my coast before they declared war on me and it was turn 7x. You must play total annihilation and cannot spare Malekith or Alith anar because Alith anar is likely to betray you anyway and Malekith will tunnel vision on you no matter how dire his position is, if you want get rid of valkia it will be also pain, with full of red territories, attrition and Valkia being OP, with -3 turn to respawn and turning into basicaly a flying Vlad 2.0 with better roster. Also lot of beastmen will pop, Taurox will probably full corrupt a zone and Morathi will lurk to attack you from south if you dont erase her. I mean unlike Imrik who have at least braindead roster and its pretty easy when you get rid of tretch and chaos dwarf and stabilise your start, Khatep is constant struggle to survive with diminished eco, attacks from everywhere and armies mostly composed of trashs facing elves or chaos warriors.

As an artillery lord I would also highly suggest going full red/blue lines and not getting any magic whatsoever. Only use his bound spells, and get another caster to be the real wizard. If he's near the front lines, hes gonna get focused down. Final tip is you can swap between all your researches till they go to 1 and not finish them. Doing that, you complete the TK tech tree around 120-150 turns in.

If you want to not have problems with the wood elves, join one of their wars and/or cap a settlement you don't want and give it to them for non aggression, money and other treaties.

As someone who has found love for the Tomb Kings in IE, I have found the challenge of the campaign lasts a little longer than other races where you are unstoppable at turn 50. Still run out of steam way sooner that ME, CA needs to do something. I can 'finish' two campaigns in a day if I want to.

Holy shit you can bypass the army limit for tomb kings ? Yeah, damn, that's broken as hell. Honestly, I've only seen broken stuff from that 'save lord' feature. It seems to have brought a giant pile of exploits. Does anyone...actually use it for its intended purpose ? I never really found a use for it, period, so I'm genuinely curious.

This was the hardest campaign for me in WH2 (I even found Markus Wulfhart easier), starting in an area surrounded by Morathi and Malekith and everywhere near you being red territory combined with the anti player bias meant you had to eliminate both asap or be stuck fighting elite units with boney boys for 100 turns. Though I much preferred that challenge to the gameplay of WH3 where there is no aggression and you just faceroll everything by turn 20.

One thing you didn't mention is climate preference. Khatep doesn't start with a whole lot of favorable territory around. How big of an issue is that for him?

I'd just mod out climate penalties because they don't make logical sense, arbitrarily slow campaigns down, have no real counter, and seem bugged anyway as the negative bonuses for replenishment and public order stack for every additional settlement in a province. You can literally get more replenishment by standing in your enemies red territory just because you obtained more than 1 settlement in a province lol.

It's worth mentioning that there are almost no preferred climates near Khatep - you get a couple of provinces south towards Morathi, and everything else is yellow 'unsuitable' garbage which just has too many penalties It's still a pretty easy campaign with good diplomacy, IMO, but it's worth mentioning that you can't expand much

I just wish CA gave more nuance to the TK lords. Like only a few of them have actual ''themes'' or units they buff. A lot of the rosters in WH realistically never gets used since most of them can't be justified or there are better alternatives. Why recruit a Hiero Titan when a tomb scorpion is much easier to get. Khatep IMO should start with a hiero titan and also buff the building for it / Stat buffs for Hiero Titans. Maybe add more bound spells for Hiero Titans?

Tomb Scorpions are way, way, WAY more glass cannon than a Hierotitan. Hierotitans provide plenty TS don't but that's the point of the unit caps in TK. Use your constructs together and they become more powerful.

Tomb kings need rework! Khatep have three or four very bad bonuses in his level skills. Khalida have olso three or four bad skills. And one very bad unique item, she have global poison bonus and than same in unique item and than she gives bonuses to range units and need to be close to them but CA give to her unique mount which do not work with range units! With rework tomb kings will be best race in game!

Eh, I think you underestimate the nehekara warriors. After their buff they became extremely strong and with campaign skills and techs I have been having them reliably kill chaos warriors. I used them to great effect in my own campaign even into the mid and late game.

The video was 9 minutes long, but for some reason it feels like you're doing it fast just to do it. The last part, which is imo the most important, his location lasted around 30 seconds maybe less. The problem is Khatep starts in a very bad location, you literally got 3 cities above you. And 2 below you of plausible climate. All others are frozen, unpleasant climate. What to do in this situation? So you either start capturing all the yellow cities around you. Or you set sail across half the world to arabia to fight vs idk who wins there. In Eltharion's campaign review you proposed some options of what to do, here - no. I played Khatep several times, still dislike his location. You literally have 2 green provinces. All others are yellow which are bad. Considering his lore i'd rather prefer him to be a horde faction to "appear where Nehekara needs him most" and then disappear in the sandstorm as suddenly as he appeared.

Hed probably say second dynasty because it buffs archers which are your main damage dealers in the early/mid game until you get your construct caps up. I personally go second, buff archers and get heroes then go for third. The proclimation of the third dynasty tech gives PO, income from settlements and settlement cost reduction, probably the best overall tech of its type. Then I go forth or sixth dynasty depending on what armies I am fielding. Tomb guard heavy go forth, constructs go sixth. 1st dynasty would be tempting if tk chariots didnt suck and 5th mainly buffs catapults and caskets which you wont have a lot of until late game and they are fine without the buffs. Necropolis knights are fine without the buffs as well so I usually end up doing fifth dynasty last.

Khatep has a buff for Ushabti in his army, I think you should recruit a few of those in his army for sure and that will make his army more dangerous rather than just being a meatshield with a few nice cavalry units. To that end, unlocking the buffs to Ushabti will be a good idea, as will unlocking the Ushabti special lord. Getting a Ushabti Carver necrotect will also be a good idea.

I tried playing Khatep, but I think he's just so boring. His personal trait, unique skills and faction abilities are just not interesting, not game changing. Tomb Kings already don't have the greatest schools of magic available, so spamming Liche Priests is just meh.
