What led to the establishment of Lā Ho’iho’i Ea?

It was 179 years ago when Lā Ho’iho’i Ea was first established signifying the restoration of the Hawaiian sovereignty.

July 31 is the Anniversary of the restoration of the Hawaiian Kingdom and Hawaii’s State Motto The phrase was originally spoken by Queen Keopuolani in Sept. 1823, on her deathbed as she was baptized into the Christian faith, which is probably why she said “The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness in Jesus Christ” (In Hawaiian). Keopuolani was the mother of Liholiho and Kauikeaouli (Kamehameha II and III), so what was said with her last breaths was important and most likely repeated by advisors to the kings. King Kamehameha III (Kauikeaouli), further memorialized his mother’s words in a prayer during a Thanksgiving service at Kawaiahao Church following the restoration of the Hawaiian Kingdom …. On July 31, !843 King Kamehameha III (Kauikeaouli) Prayed the following; that eventually became Hawaii's motto: He aupuni palapala kou Aia I ka lani ke Akua. O ke kanaka pono, oia kou kanaka. Ua Mau ke Ea o ka ʻĀina i ka Pono. My kingdom is one of knowledge Which is of God above. Men of righteousness are my men, For “ The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness."

Didn't the kings later become free masons? That was soon to be the down fall of power for the Hawaiians because it brought the trade and lodges to Hawaii. Hence the start of taking over land and business but bringing wealth to the islands. I am just asking questions and don't mean any disrespect. Just want to know more history.

Nobody mentions that the monarchy gifted the land to a foreign entity, which started the original takeover. Even though the overthrow was illegal and unauthorized, the monarchy never gifted any land to the commoners, the kanaka. Because commoners could not and did not own anything. That's how much the Alii thought about their own people. Yet everyone is getting all worked up about something that their own monarchy initiated. Queen Liliuokalani's overthrow would happen years later, that lost of sovereignty has never been resolved legally or otherwise. So what return of their Kingdom are they celebrating.

The 5 month occupation by the british in 1843 And the Restoration of that takeover. That’s what the celebration is for and has been celebrated by Hawaiians since that time. You don’t understand Hawaiian history or culture obviously so please pani kou waha. Aloha
